The Official Lex Luthor Casting Thread

He has a bad look and a weak filmography. See: not a chance in hell.

Also, the movie hasn't been named superman: man of steel, it hasn't been named anything.

A bad look? Exactly what about him is so wrong for Lex Luthor?

I suppose you think the only requirement for playing lex is being bald.

No, that's not my only requirement. I dislike the fanboy trend of only looking at actors that are already bald. But if they are, it's a bonus because we know how they will look. Pace has a look that is perfectly acceptable for Luthor. Thick dark eyebrows (an aspect of Luthor's design that is often overlooked) and tall, which as I mentioned earlier is something I feel Luthor should be.

The bad thing about him is his filmography. But again, I'm talking about his look.

Craig? Wow. Never thought of that. Interesting.

Agreed, as much as I want Daniel Day Lewis, it's highly unlikely he'd take the role, and I had never even considered Craig, but it's slightly brilliant!

Craig would be awesome, but would he have time for Superman if the next Bond is indeed going for a 2012 release date.

not imo...i don't picture Lex as a dough-faced guy. i don't think he needs to have a chizzled face like Superman by any means, but i don't like the idea of a soft-faced Lex.

Yeah, he looks good. I can see it.

Nothing against Pace but the reboot needs a bigtime actor in the role of Lex. I'm talking along the lines of a hanks, depp, or craig.

Yeah, i agree. Lex should be a suave mofo, not some random bald dude in a suit. For all the fail in Smallville, Rosenbaum was an awesome Lex.

Daniel Craig would be a good fit but he's been playing a lot of good guy roles lately. How about Stephen Dorff as Lex? He'd be the same age or slightly older than whomever they cast as Superman. He can be a suave mofo as well as a sly/cold businessman.

He looks too evil and he always get bad guy roles. I'd like Lex to look like a man who is able for the best and the worst, an ambiguous character, a good man who fell because he got obsessed and afraid and consumed by his own demons. That guy's face screams "i'm evil".

While we got too much Lex in the movies so far, i'd love to see them adapt the modern Lex and explore his character. Unlike the Joker he doesnt get locked up, he's always there, escaping the law, plotting his next scheme, manipulating villains and the goverment. The icing on the cake would be if he redeems himself at the end of all the movies, like he supposedly does at the end of All-Star Superman if you are into this whole [blackout]Lex = Leo Quintum[/blackout] thing. So yeah, i'd like a deeper Lex, a human Lex, not a carricature, or a downright evil dude.

Craig playing good guys roles lately is a positive not a negative no?!
It means he's not type cast as a villain like Mark Strong is. . .

Watch him in road to perdition. . . evil

I was talking about Stephen Dorff, but i'm not too fond of Craig either. Good actor, but he doesnt look like he belongs in a suit. He just doesnt have the suaveness of his Bond predecessors and that's one of the reasons i dont like his Bond movies that much. Lex wears a suit too, so...

Agreed. No doubt Craig has the chops to get the job done. I'm thinking along the lines of the movies he's been in lately and most of all the James Bond franchise --- its more on the image he's trying to project to the public but I might be wrong :cwink:

Viggo Mortensen would be cool, but i think he's a bit too old for Lex if they're going with a younger Superman. if Clark and Lois are to be in their early 20's then i wouldn't want Lex to be older than 40 and Mortensen is 52.

Craig (at 42) is also a lil' old for my preference, he'd certainly play a good Lex but he looks too rugged and villainous for Lex imo. i loved him as Bond, but that's because he played a different type of Bond than anyone else. a rough, almost anti-hero Bond. i certainly wouldn't complain if he played Lex though.

i just posted in the duel thread that i'm using Patrick Wilson as my Lex and after watching A-Team, i'd love to see him as Lex.

edit: here's a quicky manippy of Patrick Wilson as Lex...
