The Official Lex Luthor Casting Thread

I figured he was, it's only logical. He would make a great Lex and is probably the closes actual representation to the cartoon Lex, other than Billy Zane.

However, I still want a cool as f**k, suave, powerful, mixed motives Lex. The kind of Lex that makes you question which character you want to root for, Supes or Luthor. That's what I want to see.

Arnold Vosloo will always be the straight to dvd Dark Man to me.

Phoenix would be bad ass I think. The dude has dedication to his roles that's for sure.

Yeah, he may not exactly be an obvious choice, but a creative outta-the-box suggestion for sure. Not mine originally though, but I do believe we can expect these kinda castings for this movie. At least, the cast surrounding Superman will be slightly alternative and contemporary in approach.

Excellent choice in Phoenix. I'm really impressed with some of the choices popping up in this thread.

I'd like to see Supes and Lex be within 5/10 years of each other in age.
I can think of a dozen actors i'd love to see as Lex, but if they don't have chemistry with the actor playing supes, then it wouldnt matter if their academy award winning actors or not.
I mean i'd love to see an actor like depp or isaacs as Lex, but I couldnt see them going up against a hammer or porter.

You wont know until you see it. Like you said, it's chemistry.

I just hope they can get the right actors in the roles..

Tom Hanks, Ed Norton, Ralph Fiennes or Andy Garcia... :o

I was shocked to discover Colin Firth was 50. He looks younger, around his early 40s. I was going to suggest he has a certain mercurial quality that could make him a great Lex Luthor. But 50 is probably too old.

Also, Super-T mentioned that having a Lex with a buzz cut as opposed to completely bald might be a way to go. I can see that happening especially since they change things so much on film.

What's the problem with Lex being bald?

No problem. I'm just saying if they gave Lex a buzz cut then I wouldn't be surprised nor upset. I can see them going there. Heck with the original Superman films they let Gene Hackman have hair and only where a bald piece in every now and then.

buzz cut or bald i'm good, just as long as I don't see any wigs..

Maybe an odd choice, but how about Casey Affleck?

I've considered him on several occasions in the past. I think he'd be a great choice, but I highly doubt he'd ever do it, as in recent years he's developed a pickiness in choosing roles that rivals Daniel Day-Lewis.

Maybe that the bald thing has been done to death. He either shaves it or loses it in just about every show and movie. I would like to see him with hair for once.

I´m on the Josh Brolin bandwagon as Lex.
There´s no way...I can´t see Craig as Lex,sorry.

Found this pic of Joseph Gordon-Levitt, taken during filming of his new movie Live With It. Got me thinking he could be an incredible Lex.

i agree, i think he's a pretty good actor, but he could pass for someone in his early 20's easy. I think he should look mid 30's-mid 40's

How about Jeffrey Donovan?

I think he would make a great Lex. Has the look for it, and definitely knows how to play one cocky motherfu*ker and he pulled of a corrupted role very well in Changeling.

Credit to magicka's artwork on the "artwork challenge" for giving me this idea... can't believe I didn't think of it before.

I wouldn't see him as lex, I'd just see him as the guy from burn notice, a show where he doesn't show any stand out acting skill.

Except he wore a toupee in the Donner movies.
