The Official Lex Luthor Casting Thread

When I said Jon Hamm for Lex, I was just thinking along the lines of someone hardly suggested while still being "consistently awesome". Now, I know I'm reading far too much into this, but in an interview a few days before Cavill was announced as Superman, Hamm was asked again about the movie, and suddenly got tightlipped when asked if he'd ever play Superman. "I don't think that's going to happen." He wasn't asked if he'd never be in the movie itself. Hamm only had a few scenes in Sucker Punch, and who knows, maybe the two of them want to work together again? Hamm's name would definitely attract attention as a villain, everyone likes him from Mad Men... I think it would work out.

Although now that he's suggested, it won't happen. :hehe:

Yes, I'm starting to like the idea of Shannon playing Luthor.

Shannon on Boardwalk Empire sounds a lot like Clancy Brown. I think most people who are against him have only seen him in Revolutionary Road, where he acts more like The Joker than anything else.

I've never seen Shannon in anything, but he just looks like a brute to me in the few manips I've seen. Someone like Hamm could really play the smooth bastard that has Metropolis in the palm of his hand.

Shannon is a really versatile actor. While he tends to play mentally disturbed characters (his crazy eyes being a big reason) he shows a lot of range. Smooth bastard? No problem, from what I've seen.

Remember, while Luthor portrays himself as this smooth public figure, it's all an act. He's a mentally disturbed, twisted person. If you watch Boardwalk Empire, Shannon's character is like that.

After the surprise Amy Adams pick, I'm curious to see who will play Lex.

I wouldn't have a problem with him but I see them getting a bigger star for Lex. Thats why I don't see Hamm (I think that he would be fantastic) getting it either. The supporting cast has been fairly famous so-far so I see that trend continuing.

Shannon does have the Oscar nom on his side though...

That's the problem I might have with it... I hope they don't sacrifice fame for talent. I'm much more interested in a great performance than I am in a well known actor. That doesn't seem to be what they're doing... so I don't think I need to worry. I'd say Hamm is well known enough for what they want... and he's an awesome actor.

Yeah, it's hard to predict but given the names that they've landed for the other supporting roles, a huge name for Lex almost seems like a certainty.

That's why the Edgar Ramirez rumor seems so out-of-left-field. He might be a great actor (I'm not really that familiar with his work) but he doesn't seem to fit with the way this casting is going. Then again, Cavill is still a relative unknown, so maybe they want to go that route for the bad guy (like Marvel did with Thor)?

I agree with your sentiments. If Hamm or Shannon are the right guys for the role I hope they don't lose out on it because they aren't famous enough.

Hamm could actually take on this role because Mad Men has (sadly for me) been delayed a year.

Whoever they cast I hope that it's an exciting choice like Amy Adams.

:D

Charlie Sheen slept with forty prostitutes. That's as many as four tens. And that's winning.

Just on a side note, did any of you see Wall Street 2?

It wasn't bad but the Charlie Sheen cameo really had me scratching my head. Because it wasn't a cameo of Bud Fox (the character Sheen played in the first film) it was a cameo of Charlie Sheen. I mean, I know that he was supposedly playing that character, but they actually wrote the part so that Sheen could walk onto the screen for five minutes and act like a caracature of himself. Maybe that's all he's capable of anymore, but I still found that really strange. It was like... why even have him in the movie at all?

I never thought that Sheen was that good of an actor. I know you guys aren't being serious but I just had to say that. Plus, he looks like s**t.

I think that Billy Zane is still a good choice for Lex. I think he can pull off a very good Lex and looks like Lex from Superman: TAS it's just a matter of getting him in shape really.
