For those who haven't seen Rosamund Pike in Die Another Day, she also plays Keira Knightley's sister in the new Pride & Prejudice. Of course, she plays a nice English rose in that pic -- but she's good.

She was a perfect Jane Bennett. She was also, imo, the best thing about Die Another Day (sorry to the folks who loved Halle Berry. I thought Halle, meet over-acting. Over-acting, this is Halle.)

god Anapau looks so weird!!!

The one apparent consolation from this news is that the film aims to subvert audience expectations. It could just as likely blow up in their face, but I like the fresh approach and unknown territory that comes with it. I'm not in favor of stripping away every recognizable aspect of the source material, though I'm always wary of those that are almost slavish to it. What comes of it inevitably evolves into formulaic and repetitive checklists that don't serve anything but a misguided devotion to the material.

I'll absolutely miss the Daily Planet and Lois especially, but if their reduced roles means a closer inspection of Clark and Superman as characters, I'm all for it. Plenty of developmental opportunities in the future. I know it's somewhat looked down upon to save for future unconfirmed projects, but in the case of an established franchise it is inescapable.

I agree Anapau looks fine, I'm just not understanding what the side by side pic is supposed to be.

nah...not comparing, more contrasting expressing my disapproval for Anapau's looks.

Who looks weird. She looks fine to me.

her eyes look funky. it's like her eyelids are stick in her socket or somethin'

My guess is that this blonde, european female lead is going to be a love interest specific to this film. I could see her as someone that Clark fell for early on, before he donned the cape. Maybe she dies... or somehow leaves the picture, and that's what "inspires" clark to really become superman. That way, they could have Lois in the film without them getting together within the first film, and their relationship progressing more over the course of any future Superman flicks.
Honestly, I'd be more than okay with this. If they do this, it gives Lois the chance to be a character that doesn't revolve around Superman as his love interest. She could work more independently as a character.

Just picture it, maybe even in flashbacks:
Clark is traveling the world as a freelance reporter - somewhere along his journey he meets a beautiful, european blonde, and a relationship sparks. At this point, he hasn't yet decided what to do about his heritage. Maybe he shares his secret with this woman. She encourages him to use his powers for the world, as a symbol for justice.
Somehow, this woman is killed - maybe in relation to the fact that she knows his secret. Clark is distraught and takes up the tights in honor of her memory, and converts to a more stable lifestyle, living in metropolis and reporting at the daily planet. There he meets Perry, Lois, Jimmy, etc., and we get to see Lois as a character for her own merit. By the end of the film she is an interesting supporting character who happens to work in the same vicinity as Clark. But everyone knows what will happen...

Anyone else see this happening? They could spread the relationship more over the course of what will probably be a trilogy, instead of establishing a romantic relationship immediately. And it gives clark a nice dark edge that we haven't seen before.... it would be almost like smallville in that clark and lois knew each other, but weren't interested in each other until later in their relationship, just... hopefully better than smallville....

I'm hoping the mystery blonde stuff is BS, I really wanted to see Lois done right in this movie.

ah, my bad.
well as far as Anapau... i think she could work.
sure her eyes are a little.... yeah i don't even know what to call it.

she could work as a lois that wouldn't overshadow the film immediately, but that could become significant in later installments. that's a quality that Wilde and Biel definitely don't have... and even McAdams to an extent. they demand attention as soon as they're on screen.

still keeping my fingers crossed for Wilde, though.

Agree. The problem with Lois as the obvious love interest right of the bat is that it will get tedious in the next movies. Either they are together or they aren't and it gets draggy. Someone mentioned Spiderman which was a great example of this.

Of course, it is a gamble. They risk alienating the audience - kinda like how a lot of people freaked out immediately and they risk that if the movie doesn't take then Clark and Lois, the love story will never get a chance to be told. So they do have to tread carefully. But like they are only just bringing in Selina Kyle in the third movie, I think it's a good structure. Lois however, is vital in a Superman movie and that's why they didn't cut her completely.

almost every person suggested for lois>>>>>>>>>>anapau

i feel bad because she's demonstrated that she seems to have a good grasp on how Lois should be portrayed, but those eyes just creep me out man. they don't look too bad in some photos but in others they're quite distracting...and not in a good way.

the lead doesn't HAVE to be a love interest, but movies where the lead male and lead female remain purely platonic are very rare. i can't even think of one off the top of my head where the leads aren't related.

.

I doubt the rumor of the female lead not being Lois is true. It was only few weeks back we were getting variety was swearing up and down that Talia and Vicki Vale would be the female leads ,along with other places saying Hugo Strange would be the main villan in TDKR.

Last week we were hearing Joe M was the frontrunner for Supes and that Cavill was out. A few months ago we heard that MJ and Gwen were both gonna be in the Spiderman reboot and that Josh Hutcherson nabbed the Spiderman role. Basically, i'll believe it when I see it.

I've been skimming the thread, does she really have a shot?

Yep, all very fresh in my mind. Variety was so far off the mark it's unbelievable. 100% BS.

did Variety attach any names to those roles though? it's one thing to throw out character names, it's another to throw out actress names...especially associating them with an unknown character.

all this is true. THIS IS SO EXCITING!!!

not sure. she's pretty much an unknown, so if they're trying to get a Lois Lane who the general populace is familiar with then i'd say she doesn't stand a chance...especially against the likes of Mila, McAdams, and Wilde...but anything can happen. she might test very well with Cavill and land the role.

Lois Lane or not, I want Diane Kruger in this film. BTW guys, chill out a bit on the no Lois thing, the article doesn't say she's not in the film, but I wouldn't put it past the writers to have made her part minimal for the first film, and if there's a second expand her role. Deep breaths in.......................now relax. Remember it's not the amount of screen time that matters, it's what part in the story the character plays. Lois might only play a small part, but it could be a vital to Clark and the story. Just chill guys.

I wouldn't want their relationship to get old, so I don't mind a 3-film plan for it. And yeah Diane Kruger would be awesome in any role.

They said naomi watts and eva green were all but officially cast in the parts.

And I find it hard to believe they'll go with both unknowns for supes and lois.

Exactly. Maybe Synder and Team Nolan want to develop the Lois/Superman relationship in a more organic way as opposed to just thrusting them together for the sake of it within 2 hours. A different female lead that is a potential other love interest will not only give us something we haven't seen before, it sets the franchise well apart from anything that's come before it.
