National Treasure was just a mediocre movie all around. even Jon Voight was barely likable.

she was MUCH more interesting in Inglorious Basterds.

I heard she wasn't very good in that either, but I've never gotten around to watch it.

She is definitely good in that movie.

The entire card playing scene is one of my favorite scenes in a movie in the last few years. :hrt:

She is pretty good in Inglourious Basterds. If you haven't seen it then you need to.

Judging by the reactions here, Lois is that important to Superman. This is how Lois is a different from other love interests.

Her and Fassbender make up the greatest scene in Inglorious Basterds.

Regardless, when it comes to acting, I'm still pretty sure Rosamund Pike > Diane. And I say it as someone who adore them both very much. I'm actually surprised that they are both in the running for a role in the Superman movie because last I heard they might be cast in a movie together - a completely different movie.

i've only ever seen Rosamund Pike in Die Another Day and Doom (2 very zany movies) so i can't really comment. i think they're both good actresses that i always enjoy stalki....i mean, watching! :D

Kruger or Pike, i'd be fine with either.

She's amazing in An Education. Better than Carey Mulligan. She's also in Barney's Version but I haven't seen it yet.

Regardless of who is casted, if Lois is the main female(I have no doubt that she will be in the movie), or if Clark is not Superman yet, I will see the movie and be excited about it.

I mean it can't be worse then Superman III, IV, or Superman Returns. <-- And despite how much everyone hate them, I own them all and watch them from time to time and enjoy them. They may suck but there better then no superman at all.

I hope they keep throwing rumors around. Makes the forums twenty times more interesting. Once the movie and cast is set in stone, we are going to have to find something else to freak out about. Doubt it will be as good as Superman.

Still rooting for Rachel McAdams and Olivia Wilde.

Pike and Kruger are both solid actresses. IF the role is Lois though, I'd go with Kruger over Pike. Pike was great in An Education (though I disagree that she was better than Mulligan) and Pride and Prejudice, but I've never really gotten a Lois vibe from her. Still, nice to hear of more talented actresses in the mix.

So far, from the candidates we've heard, I'd happy with Rachel McAdams, Olivia Wilde, Mila Kunis, Diane Kruger or Rosamund Pike.

^Oh absolutely. I don't see Rosamund as Lois either. Though, I also wouldn't be keen on Diane for Lois. If it's Lois, my choice remains Rachel McAdams.

(I tend to think Carey is a tad bit overrated.)

the lead doesn't HAVE to be a love interest, but movies where the lead male and lead female remain purely platonic are very rare. i can't even think of one off the top of my head where the leads aren't related.

edit: if our theory about this "lead" is correct (Superman's version of Gwen Stacy), i don't see Superman donning the costume until the last third of the film. "lead" implies that she'll take up a majority of the screen time out of all the females in the movie. you can't be a lead if you're only in 1/3rd of the movie.
It seems unlikely a studio would take such a high-risk maneuver. Even with Nolan's in-depth approach to exploring the Bruce Wayne character in BB, the superhero debut fit in at a respectable halfway point. I fear audience's expectations might be put to an unnecessary test should that be prolonged even further.

Sure, Clark's powers are always with him so there's plenty of options to showcase spectacle. People come to see the man in the suit however. The effect is diminished if the man in action is merely wearing pedestrian clothing.

while i agree (Superman only appearing near the end would be a marketing nightmare) there HAVE been reports about Superman not wearing the suit at all. though that was a while ago and i hope they're not true and/or have rewritten the script so that it features more screen time of him in his suit.

I wouldn't put too much stock in that. I'm guessing it will be like Batman Begins and we'll see Supes in costume about halfway through the movie. Otherwise it would just feel like a big budget version of Smallville.

:hehe:

Also, this reminds me. I just saw The Fighter tonight. Bale had BETTER win the Oscar! He's brilliant in it. If any of you haven't seen it, go check it out.

i bet he won't. he'll be this year's mickey rourke. win every award except the oscar. the academy doesn't see sports and acting as award worthy for some reason. geoffrey rush will probably win.

i'm baffled by this female lead who isn't lois business. i guess it's lara, lana, or a female villain?

Here's my thinking if Lois does end up having a reduced role. Everyone knows Clark and Lois end up together and if you look at spiderman the Peter and mj story was interesting until we hit the third movie where it was more of the same. So maybe if there thinking long term you can keep the audience interested by having Lois in a smaller role for the first movie which should be focusing on why we even care about Clark in the first place. Plus if they dot have luthor in the film and keep him for a sequel you would give a reason for them to get to know eachother better.

Nah, Rourke didn't win the Oscar because he didn't win the SAG award. Bale won 'em all, including the SAG. I'll be completely shocked if he doesn't win it at this point.

I also think that if it does largely focus on Clark as a freelance reporter ala Birthright, then Metropolis, Lois, and the suit will still come into the movie about halfway through. Like Gotham in BB. So while she may have a reduced role compared to all the other Superman movies, I'm betting it's still a pretty decent-sized one in the end.

For those who haven't seen Rosamund Pike in Die Another Day, she also plays Keira Knightley's sister in the new Pride & Prejudice. Of course, she plays a nice English rose in that pic -- but she's good.
