I was watching the Lois Lane auditions last night on the Superman: The Movie special features disc. It's remarkable seeing those auditions because you see the subtle yet critical differences between all the actresses and there's a striking parallel to today.
I've seen people question why Kidder was chosen to play Lois and when you see the other actresses' audition videos there is no question that Kidder was clearly better than her competition who were actually quite awful.

or Lois :p

I like the Anna Kendrick idea.

After all his Veeery Loong winded arguments I went through tons of pictures of Anna in different hair and make up. I honestly tried to see it. I really tried. But I truly saw nothing. She looks like a child. And even when she gave a Good performance in Up in The Air... All I see is a good actress not Lois. There are plenty of actresses with the chops that are not right for this particular lois. I even see where GA1U5 is coming from as far as his opinion about the cast of a non traditionally attractive actress cast as Lois to enhance the dynamic of the love story portion of this upcoming film. Not that I agree that this idea is law and cannot be captured with a woman that is not only a good actress but is also universally attractive. There just has to be a better fan choice than Anna Kendrick. The best way I can describe her is a mature teenager on her best day. Not the woman Lois is. Now, my top choice has always been McAdams but I even have reservations about her. I love her skill as an actress, her ability to suck you in and believe her character on screen. Her love, her angst, her passion, her joy and fervor... In past performances she has been solid. And... She is a grown woman and doesn't have to be made up to "look" like one.

It's all good, if everyone agreed on everything this board would be boring. McAdams is beautiful and talented but something about her jjust bores me. They're are plenty of actresses who can do the role. I support Wilde because I believe she is the most likely as well as capable. My dark horse candidate an 1a choice is Kate Mara.

I've got Wilde at 4 on my top 5. She was good in Tron but was she that good, or was the rest of the movie really bad?

I'm not trying to ruffle any feathers but I don't think casting a less attractive Lois enhances anything. I find it hurts believability when I see male heart throbs pining away for average women like in "Twilight". Also, we've pretty much already had the average looking movie Lois' with Kidder and Bosworth. It's time for something different. And I'm not saying Lois should be all eye candy with no substance so don't jump on me as if I did.

Kara if you had to have a 2nd pick. who would it be?

I could live with Wilde, Knightley, or even Biel but Sophia Bush has that charismatic X factor that GA1U5 was talking about that he saw in Margot Kidder.

Cool.

I still don't get the Bush love, but you see somthing in her. I hope we're cool.

I think the fact that no one choice is gonna please everyone, and when the role is cast ,you're still gonna have people who don't like it or can't picture them as Lois. Ultimately as far as Synder is concerned , its gonna be about which actress is best in the role , and as a result , that actress may be quite far from fanboy expectations of what Lois should look like whether she's an average looking actress or a bombshell.

That's what I'm saying as well. More than average is what I want. And while I understand his view and see were he is going with it I don't share it. I can also see why Lobo can be bored with McAdams. There were times, maybe two, that I wanted more from her. That was my reservation. But over all I think her talent is way beyond what she has been limited to.

I liked Anne Archer's and Stockard Channing's auditions, as well as Kidder's. Truth be told, if I didn't already know that Kidder got the part, I wouldnt've seen anything incredible in her performance. Reeve, however, was incredible as Superman. He really outshone every actress IMO.

I rewatched the movie........... In my mind, i thought it was well made. This maybe blasephamy, but it was "mehhh" to me. The story was terrible, so many loopholes and "wtf" moments. Christoper Reeves performance was just alright, his Superman got better in the later movies, but the first movie made Superman a *****e :)

So, all in all, the movie was not the best Superman movie it could have been

I really hope that Cavill did something similar during his screentest

You had me until the Reeve part. Between Otis, the 70's pimp, campy Lex, and Superman turning back time I find it hard to watch at times. The one thing that keeps me coming back for more is Reeve's performance.

Well to be honest I think the amount of time it's taking is showing how difficult it is to cast the role of Lois Lane.

If they cast the first hot brunette that showed up at auditions they would have probably announced her casting a few weeks after Henry Cavill.

Hopefully then, they're really taking their time with her casting to make sure she's exactly right.

The only thing difficult about casting Lois is that there's so many actresses who can do the part justice, that it's hard to decide on one.

Not that there's barely any actresses that could possibly do the role.

Chris Reeve was the best things about those movies. And it does still show today how important he was. He raised the bar so high, that its difficult for many us to comprehend someone else coming along and nailing it better than he did. But saying that, what competition has there been?

Dean Cain was good, but wasnt great. Routh was picked purely cause of his resemblance to Chris (IMO vaguely). With Cavill however, merely from seeing The Tudors, I see a lot of potential in him. Im not worried in the slightest bit way, cause he is a very good actor.

By rewatched, did you mean watched it for the first time? I really feel you are part of the SR generation. Reeve is clearly the best Superman that has ever graced film or tv. When you have an avatar like that and say things like people resembling horses and post horse pics, it really shows you are part of the "younger" generation. And that's insulting the younger generation.

Ashley Greene would be perfect for Ursa.

So would Billy Zane.

I just wonder if they've already picked someone but are just ironing out the contract

I've responded to this but done it in the Henry Cavill thread to keep it going :D
