The Official Lois Lane Casting & Discussion Thread - Part 6

To me...Lois shouldn't quite be the kind of woman...looks/character...that any guy would swoon over at first glance and think primarily about sex. Attractive, yes...but not a bombshell/supermodel type. I think the portrayal of Lois has to communicate why someone like Superman/Clark would find her so irresistible and fascinating, even with her precociousness, temper, occasional narcissism perhaps, etc..

That's what I think Kidder, despite not being the most beautiful woman, brought so well to Lois....along with her chemistry with Reeve. Her 'faults' were a big part of what made her so endearing to both Clark and Superman...and the contrast with the girlish coyness while she swoons over Superman. despite the cheesiness of the scene, after Supes in STM turns back time and lands by her car....I think that was a perfect example of how much Superman adores her. He's overcome with emotion that she's alive again, but then he sighs and laughs to himself as she goes on a mini tirade about the earthquake and 'there's never one around when you need one..'. You can tell he wouldn't want her any other way. He's the most powerful being in the world, but she keeps him on his toes.

Lots of actresses can do gorgeous...lots can also seem like a handful, bratty, eccentric, or even annoying. But I feel it'll take a very skilled actress to make that lovable without it feeling forced. I think a while back both Marisa Tomei and Sandra Bullock had that quality....maybe even Julia Roberts or Geena Davis. I'm thinking something like that, but a bit more cosmopolitan.

Totally agree with you. :cwink:

Ellen Page does not deserve to be put next to TAS Lois Lane ever.

She would be a complete and total miscast as Lois.

As much as I love Ellen Page...her as Lois Lane is an even bigger miscast than Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane.

From the choices on the poll here I would have to lean towards Rachel McAdams.

I thought the story was that Snyder asked Stewart to audition for Lois Lane and she said 'No' to the audition.

Her representatives have repeatedly stated that she was never in any way involved, or asked to be involved with the superman movie.

So much word to this! I haven't seen anyone describe this topic as great as I've seen now.

Jessica Biel is testing for a role in the remake of Total Recall, so I think it means she didn't get the part of Lois.

Google it.

i hope that's what it means, but she could also be looking for follow up/side work. these days it's quite common for actors/actresses to have 3 movies or more released within one year.

I had a scoop from an interview that Gemma Arterton had tested for both the dark knight rises and superman and Nolan chose her for the villain role in dark knight, but due to a problem she had in her program she turn the offer down, because the filming of the dark knight begins in one Month and Gemma is on the set of Hansel and Gretel..!! Maybe he chose her for the Lois part because when the filming of superman starts , she will have finished the filming a month earlier ..!

^She has a great look for Lois IMO. How's her acting?

There has been no legit Lois news yet..

Besides that (Variety/Deadline) is saying:

- Lois Lane is not the female lead
- They don't want too big a name for the female role(s)
- Diane Kruger et all were supposedly up for another lead role that was not Lois Lane (Possibly Ursa)
- There are three female roles being cast for this film (Martha, (Possibly Ursa) and Lois).

Do you really believe this whole Ursa rumor?

I find McAdams generic and almost indestinguishable from Bosworthless. McAdams already turned down the role of Pepper Potts so I hope she doesn't want to do superhero movies if offered.

Generic and indistinguishable? Which parts of hers did you not like? Or is just her acting style?
And Pepper Potts doesn't compete with Lois. The roles are completely different. Just sayin'.

Also Teri Hatcher and Erica Durance have pretty much raised the bar for looks in live action. Why hire McAdams who is less attractive than previous Lois actresses?
WHOAAAAA, CRAZY. Now, I understand that Durance was really hot but Hatcher? Better looking then McAdams?

I saw the Adjustment Bureau yesterday and Emily Blunt was terrific. Amazing chemistry with Matt Damon. Her character had a bit of everything. I can definitely see her as Lois.

She has the acting chops and the personality for it. I don't mind have two large characters being portrayed by the Britain's. She is defiantly in my top five!

I really think this whole hotness thing is getting out of hand. Let's set two guidelines: Lois does not need to be average looking and she does not need to be AMAZINGLY HOT. Anywhere in-between there is fine with me. I mean, I think Lois on Smallville was great and in my opinion, she was VERY hot. But then again, I think Margot Kidder did great and she was some what attractive. I think it depends on the overall look of the person. Does she have a Lois vibe.

Gemma is a very capable actress. I highly recommend The Disappearance of Alice Creed. She's really good in it and, well, you get to see ALL of her.:woot:

However, I have no idea if she can do an American accent, though I have no reason to believe that she can't.

I have a strange feeling Dianna Agron will make the shortlist for Lois. She seems like the type of actress the studio would be interested in, for better or worse.

Eh. We could do alot better than Agron, but we could also do much worse...

Now That she'll get no problem. And I'd pay to see it... Red box :woot:

Jessica Brown Findlay, she's young for sure, in the early 20s range they might be looking for but she still looks like she can pull off a more mature look.

And if not... well, they're remaking all of Paul Verhoeven's movies these days (Total Recall, Robocop), so Biel would be a shoe-in for the Showgirls remake.

Please God no Ellen Page. I'm not saying she's a bad actress, but for Lois? F*** no.

To go from people suggesting Ellen Page to Jessica Biel is completely diffferent ends of the spectrum. People obviously have very different ideas on what Lois must be like.

But FYI, it takes more than a snarky tomboy-ish attitude to be able to play Lois. Lois is a sophisticated career woman, so suggesting Ellen Page is pretty much the same as suggesting Chloe Moretz.

Dude, I know Ellen looks young, but she's not a child. Chloe Moretz is. It's not the same thing.

That being said, I love Ellen and she's a great actress (and able to play more than snarky tomboy types) but I agree that she's wrong for Lois.

That is a terrifying thought.

And I say this as someone who actually likes Glee.

If Jennifer Connelly was 12 years younger right now, I would have liked to see her play the role of Lois as well.

She's gorgeous.

Please god not Ellen Page. Excellent in Hard Candy and quite good in Juno (though I despise the film) but her acting is no where near good enough to make up for the fact she couldn't be any more wrong for the role. Also, she sounds like a huge lesbian.

I didn't even bother trying to read all that.. BUT

She looks and sounds absolutely nothing like Lois Lane, and her acting style couldn't be further removed from what's needed for LL. A complete miscast.

I think the only reason you all are saying she's wrong for the role is that she looks young, but if that's what Snyder's going for, there's nobody in her age range who's better-suited for this role. You cannot find someone who has a better combination of qualites and on-screen charisma for Lois who's between 20-28. Ellen Page checks every box AND she has that x-factor, that unique screen presence that only she has, that she could lend to Lois Lane and it would ignite the screen. I know she doesn't seem like the obvious choice, but just think about it for a moment. What is Lois Lane supposed to be like?

Beautiful, A-list movie star beautiful, but not too beautiful, difficult combination: Ellen Page.

Comedic ability, sarcasm and humor that stems from pure intelligence: Ellen Page.

An everywoman who's instantly likable and inspires our sympathy: Ellen Page.

Confident, stubborn, and tough, but with chinks of vulnerability in the armor: Ellen Page.

Intelligent, sharp, quick mental processing ability: Ellen Page.

A bulldozer over Clark, she's not interested in him, but Superman flirting with her, she can't help but look down and blush: Ellen Page.

There is literally no other single actress who checks all of these boxes. She's got it, she's got the check list AND the x-factor. That's what Henry Cavill has and that's why he was cast. Sure, he looks like Superman, he's tall, dark hair, blue eyes, but he's got the screen presence. He's got that x-factor that Zack Snyder has been talking about recently. That's what makes him special and that's what makes Ellen Page special. Every actress who I've seen suggested for this role so far has no screen presence at all. They're interchangeable. They don't have that brash but lovable, cool, funny, intelligent charisma on screen like Ellen Page. And that fits Lois to a tee.

And she can play more adult, she just needs to be given a role where she doesn't wear pants and sweaters for the entire film, where she's made to look like a woman, not a kid. And like I said, she'll age very well through these films. By movie 2 and especially movie 3 she'll be in her late 20's/early 30's and be the impeccable image of adult Lois Lane.

You guys just can't see it now because she does have a young vibe to her, but she will grow up and become far more womanly and beautiful than she is now. So if Snyder wants youth for Lois in the first film and plans for the character to evolve in later films, Ellen Page was born to play this role at this time.

She'd also look way too small trying to elbow her way through a crowd of competing reporters trying to get a scoop....unless they were all really short too.

She would, however, make Cavill look that much taller while standing next to her, since he's only around 6 feet tall...as opposed to the 6' 4"-ish we usually associate with Supes.

But put it this way...for Lois, I wouldn't mind Paige's acting talent and quirks in a more womanly physique/face like Blunt or McAdams. Paige as Lois is kinda' along the same lines as Jude Law for Superman. Skilled actor, handsome, but....
