EA The Official Mass Effect Thread - Part 2

You know what? This game has won me over. I stand by my earlier critiques. It was lazily made. But my love of the lore of Mass Effect combined with the thrill of exploration and a solid combat system has officially made me decide to buy this game..

I agree that it looks lazy, although with this rookie team they probably aren't as versed in doing the thousands of things that are required in a top RPG nowadays and it looks like they tried to play it safe. As for the internet critiques I've seen those things are all present but they have had very little effect on my enjoyment of the game. I mean 100 or so dodgy lines in a 100 plus hour RPG just doesn't change a great deal. The voice acting isn't that bad and it's just the facial animations that aren't good and this is something I adjusted to pretty quickly.

Those who were still big ME fans after 3's ending and were hyped for this game before those critiques would do well to give it a trial or at least watch a longer playthrough to see how much these problems are likely to affect them as I think many wouldn't find it a problem and would be missing out on what I would call so far a typical (but not exemplary) Mass Effect experience. Just my recommendation for people who fall into that specific group.

As someone who fell into that group, I endorse this strategy. Go to Red Box. Give it a try. Might win you over in spite of itself as it did me. Don't get me wrong, the facial expressions are pretty bad (though with time they become endearingly bad to the point where you can laugh at them). And it is, as Iceman said, a typical Mass Effect experience. But if you love Mass Effect, you will enjoy this.

oh, and how do you read that compass bar? That confused me in Skyrim, and it confuses me here.

how do I know what direction I'm facing or how close I am to the objective marker? How do I know I'm going in the right direction?

DAI had that mini-map which I found more helpful.

you don't .you have to keep scanning til you find the objective of what your supposed to be seeking. north south east and west as some of the video reviews have stated it doesn't mean much especially from what the games radar's review stated in video.

Though I wasn't really sure with some of the stuff that reviewer said .

And you figure they can't avoid the time leap for long. At some point, you'd think the Milky Way would have to come back into the fold. I'm really curious to see what the ending of Andromeda will set up for the larger universe, and not just the Andromeda galaxy. And then it'd have to be almost like having Star Trek The Original Series meeting The Next Generation.
well they already showed liara was connected to the series . if she's still a live cause they showed that the asiari are truly long lived and it's just over bosting then yeah most of the aliens might show up after all those centuries . if they haven't been killed . certain human's however. un less during the long sleep for most of the arks inhabitance to andromeda and in the milky way most of humanity have found a way to prolong life's span significantly , I'm not expecting to see any of the human's from the original trilogy series. may be their off spring with mentions of their parents or great great grand parents.

he did say he wasn't using it . I also think the guy from pcgamer wasn't using it ether. I guess it's just to see how big certain cave's your searching are. I wouldn't worry about it too much. you always be able to find things.

ah, well. I liked the mini-map from DAI better.

oh, and I take it there's not auto-targeting in combat?

no you have to aim . and the target marker show up but aim is required. and as an infiltrator you have the scope that allow's you to see through walls with special augments. where the guns are involved anyways.

cool, thanks!

so, I finally cleared that 1st mission planet and arrived at the nexus. big whoop!!

story is progressing and getting more interesting. and the combat is fun!

sure, I've seen a few wonky animations and the occasional "dead eye" look, but nothing out of the ordinary compared to other Bioware games.

so, so far so good.

oh, and I must say, my Lara Ryder is quite the cutie!! :atp:

and she really does resemble Lara from the new TR games! :atp:

oh, and I discovered that if you press the Left analog stick, that will briefly bring up the objective marker rings and indicate what direction they're in as well as distance.

that really helped, much better than that useless compass bar.......lol.

ive been trying to put this game back in... I just left the Nexus, saved and quite last time i played... Just every time i think 'ok, lets play some ME'.... I remind myself 'but what about that goddamn shrine in Breath of the Wild.....'

and no one can or will blame you for it. BOW is an awesome game.

Sounds cool. Got a pic? :woot:

thanks. but how do I activate it?

so far, to interact with something, I'm prompted with the Triangle button.

but those boxes give no prompt.

do I just stand next to them?

You just run up to them, and it automatically refills your ammo.

Also, there's another one with a red icon. That refills your health, the same way. You run up to it, and it refills your health. Though, I've noticed that if the red dot in the icon is black, then there's no more health refill.

I just set up a Science base on Eos. I'm still enjoying the game, and I'm getting a lot of Dragon Age Inquisition vibes from it. I'm not sure, but I think the first map we went through in DAI after becoming the Inquisitor was also a desert world. Either way, Eos being a desert world and us running around it feels alot like DAI.

Also, I met Hainley. I think people overreacted (shocking, I know..) to saying she's an example of Bioware being anti-Transgendered. I mean, to label them Transphobic because of that conversation is just insane to me.

The new hero (Scott) is growing on me.

Ah glad you got into it. I had a feeling you might from what you'd said in your earlier posts and after I'd played the game and experienced the negatives that everyone had been talking about. That recommendation had you in mind as a prime candidate lol.

These issues would matter much more in an Uncharted but an RPG has so many moving parts that it isn't as crucial if they stuff a few things up (not that it's acceptable to do so when the competition are coming out with games that are already old at the standard of The Witcher 3) as long as the overall product is still enjoyable. For eg it would take more than some dodgy voice acting, weapon animations and glitches to put people off Zelda I'm sure.

well, I guess I can with the Archives site.

here's the link to her:

This is the Youtube vid I followed, and then I made my own tweaks to the sliders.

[YT]kORDOH0drtI[/YT]

Here are my slider tweaks:

Preset #5
Skintone: 0.05
Brow: 3, 13
Cheek: 9, 6, 4
Chin: 12, 14, 8, 3
Eye: 4, 11, 10
Mouth: 10, 7, 8, 10
Nose: 7, 13, 7, 3

Feel free to use my slider tweaks if you'd like. In terms of appearance, I really like the overall look. I think it's one of the best looking faces I've seen and I think she's really cute. And, her resemblance to Lara is uncanny, imo.

But, again, she'd be perfect if they would just let us move the skin tone slider a few notches lighter........lol. Even the person who created the Youtube vid feels the same way. All I want is to be able to make her the same skin tone as the default Ryders and Cora. The lighter skin tone is obviously programmed into the game already, so there's no real logical reason why it can't be available to the custom characters.

when they fix the skin tone issue, I'm going to use the same template and make a blonde/blue-eye version for my Kara/Supergirl inspired Ryder.

and I hope they'll let us change our existing Ryder's appearance in game once they patch the CC. cuz I would really hate to have to start over with this Lara Ryder.

oh, and letting us choose our own Dad Ryder model during CC would also be welcome, instead of it being tied to the presets. Those 2 changes, lighter skin tone and choosing own Dad Ryder model, would be sufficient for me, now that I have that "Lara" face model to go by.

thanks. yeah, when I played last night, I noticed a message about restoring my ammo or something. guess I missed that the 1st night I played.

still, though, I think it should be consistent with the other interactive prompts ( press/hold triangle ).

I'd say Fem Ryder is growing on me, as well. I like her VA and her expressions/personality in the dialogue.

Only played a bit of Male Ryder, and he seemed a bit "stiffer" in terms of delivery and expression.

I was hoping anyone here could help me, I just saw that this soundtrack is on Spotify, and the very first track "A better beginning" has this tune that is so familiar to me. I'm sure it's from some kind of sci-fi show or movie or similar. Anyone has any tips on what it could be?
