Action-Adventure The Official Metal Gear Movie Thread

God. I love that! Looking forward to the other pictures.

If it were Legendary or even WB producing it, I'd feel more comfortable that it would get made. Sony though? I'm not optimistic.

Hope I'm wrong. Vogt-Roberts' passion for it is infectious.

Agreed, I really liked Vogt-Roberts Kong movie also.

Now this is a movie i would be totally on board with.
Such a fan of MGS. I played the one for PS1 and the MGSV. The stealth aspect, the action, the character... all cool stuff i would like to see done in a great movie. There have been plenty of movies that are similar to what MGS kind of offers and it's a case of, imo, refitting a movie with similar ideas with the the overall tone of MGS in order to be easily digestible to the general audience hence making it popular and profitable.

Tom Rothman: "So Metal Gear is a computer cog made of metal, right? That's why it's called Metal Gear? Also. I thought this was called Metal Gear. Why is there a giant robot?"

Tom Rothman is the greatest enemy for every giant robot on film.

Concept art for the movie.

Tom Rothman: "Why is there a ninja? What if it was a secret agent with a letter opener?"

Looking at these concepts, I feel if by some miracle this movie happens, it's gonna be trash of the highest caliber.

Even making a film based on a game that pretends to be a film is already a bad idea.

It is my understanding that the "concept art" Vogt-Roberts has been posting all month isn't directly related to the film he's developing. it's just a fun, month-long project he's been doing to celebrate Metal Gear's 31st anniversary.

So cool, but not indicative of what the film will look like.

Ah. Highly misleading when HammerDown calls it "concept art for the movie."

Besides, how would that lower image of Snake even work for an MGS movie? That type of concept is way too abstract, even for Metal Gear.

In the interview i posted above the director hints at this stuff being part of the development of the movie. Even how he describes the imagery and talks about how the scenes would work and so on... I got the vibe that it's indeed part of the development process.

Well the director hinted that some of this stuff could be dream sequences...

Let's be honest. It's barely going to be anything like the game when the studio execs get involved because "they don't understand the material".

I gotta say i like some of the concept art. Some of it looks really cool and the visuals are great.
Then again i also think that the director can really be going overboard with the weirdness of MGS and it may hurt the final product. I feel that the safest bet would be to tone it down a bit and not plunge too much into Kojima's world/ideas. Make it somewhat more approachable to the general audience and the probability of it being successful would increase significantly.

From what the director said he actually wants to take a different approach from the safe one which would be to mold the MGS world to some type of movie we have seen before and can identify with. He seems to want to go in a more creative and stylized direction. I'm not so sure that's the best course of action and could see this going sideways if he leans to much onto stuff that is just too weird to get on board with.

We have seen projects similar to this fail before. There are so many facets of MGS that are cool and approachable to the general audience while others would totally alienate them.

Didn't this director try to force himself on a porn actress? Cool beard, I guess.

If any of this "concept art" is an indicator, half the film is going to be flashbacks and PTSD induced nightmares. I'm not sure about that. I would rather a straight forward adaption of Metal Gear with maybe a few flashbacks to Subsistence, Peace Walker and Phantom Pain just to establish Miller, Snake/Big Boss, and Ocelot, but the main focus should be on Solid Snake and the FOXHOUND mission to rescue Grey Fox in Outer Heaven.

Thanks for posting this.

With Sony behind this, I won't believe it gets made until cameras are actually rolling. Having said that, I really want it to happen.

For me that concept art look great, it's whether they can fit all of that story into one game.

It does look like Solid Snake is the protagonist though rather than a young Big Boss.

The inclusion of cyborg ninja Gray Fox in the first movie is reason for me to believe this movie will suck. His plot alone should take half an hour, and Sony want to rush things without proper plan or thought.

It seems like it'll be MGS1, with Big Boss instead of Liquid, with flashbacks to Snake Eater. I'm fine with that if it's good. Even Kojima's of the mind that you don't need absolute fidelity to the source. Especially a source material that is that level of bat****.

I agree with Kojima's philosophy. Betray your audience.
