Kojima confirmed Boss has amnesia coming out of his coma. But that has been inferred since the first trailer and the "Who am I?" stuff that was in it.

I hope he doesn't get villainous because he's manipulated then, but because he does recover his memories and it drives him crazy.

I can see where some would like it.. It's just not my cup of tea and I'm glad they did t force you to do any of it.. Hope they don't force us here..

I believe there was an auto assign feature in Peace Walker. I would assume that there'd be one in Phantom Pain, since it seems to be based on Peace Walker's concept.

The one thing that has me a little worried is the supposed lack of presence by Kiefer Sutherland. I keep hearing that the same audio cues from GZ were in the demo, and that there was just barely any voice work from Big Boss. I'm just hoping that there's no way that whatever the cost of getting Kiefer is (for me, he's a big get) would affect how much talking he'd do. Because I'm used to Snake (all Snakes, really) talking quite a bit.

Metal Gear Solid must reflect the era in which it's made, Kojima says

Following a demo of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, prominent game designer Hideo Kojima told Joystiq, through a translator, that it's important for media to reflect the era in which it is developed. Games with authorship tell a story beyond what appears within the product's narrative, he said; they give players a perspective on the state of the world at the time of a game's development.

Some games lack that authorship, he said.

Recruiting goats and researching cardboard in Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain

The in-game demo of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain features an impressive array of technology, from Fox Engine's fantastic character models and dynamic weather effects to its day and night cycle and open-world locales.

Oh, and also, you have the ability to attach a surface-to-air recovery balloon to a goat and send it flying toward your home base. Clearly, the engine's most impressive feat.

Put it this way, if there's indeed not much talking from him, then it's probably an intentional design choice - whatever the reason may be.

Sean Eyestone of Kojima Productions stated that even before Kiefer Sutherland was cast, they had decided that Snake wouldn't talk as much in concept. So I wonder how this will end up. Maybe as the story goes on and he regains his memories, then he ends up opening up and talking more. This Afghanistan bit in the demo does seem pretty early. And he did talk quite a bit in the hospital part, even though some of it was Ishmael.

There's been a lot of mention of this game being less cinematic and with less cutscenes. Hard to imagine that in a MGS game, but that would explain why there's less dialogue than usual.

Still, at least he could engage in making conversational responses during codec calls. In GZ, the constant one-sided yapping from Miller got annoying very quickly. I don't need innumerable lengthy speeches from BB but the man needs to converse.

He's busy on a mission, he doesn't need to respond as if they're in a conversation. :oldrazz: They discuss the briefings together, anyway.

EDIT: But, it depends how they tackle this in the main game.

I don't know...the direction and intention could be the reason. But, ultimately if Big Boss winds up having ALOT less dialogue than we've gotten from any of the Snakes in previous games, people are going to just to wind up blaming Kiefer Sutherland's price tag. And it could very not be the reason at all, but getting a Hollywood talent will be something harped on. They're already complaining about that, mostly because of Ground Zeroes.

And I can see the argument being made, that if Big Boss isn't going to talk much...then why get Kiefer Sutherland at all? I really like him as Big Boss, and I'm way more receptive with him as Big Boss than I would have been with him as Solid.

I'm sure it'll all work out, and hey...it says a hell of a lot that the only thing I can worry about is whether or not the main character in a game talks enough. I'm loving everything I'm hearing and seeing on The Phantom Pain. So, I'm sure it'll all work out.

Just as they said earlier in the week, Kojima Productions have streamed their E3 gameplay demo of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain as part of their “Kojima Station” web series that provides a look into the studio’s inner workings.

The episode—which you can watch above—is about 2 hours in length. The gameplay footage for Metal Gear Solid V begins just after the 50-minute mark.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is in development for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.

This is so much like a next-gen PW. That's either a good or bad thing, depending on your tastes :p

I need this game now! But I know it's still at least a full year away in all likelihood :(

I wonder if we will meet the young Solid and Liquid in this game.

If Eli isn't Liquid then that's the biggest red herring I've ever seen. They might as well of had him screaming Brother! in Cam Clarke's voice each time they've shown him.

Now I'm disappointed that doesn't happen.

Oh well, at least I can still start a farm.

So this is probably a mid to late 2015 release?

Probably. Considering how there was no word on a release date at E3, it's probably guaranteed to be 2015 now.
