I see, I didn't know MGS V was so far away from release. I understand the strategy, and even at $40 I am sure many people will purchase it; although I am curious to see just how many know of the 2 hour campaign prior to purchasing it.

But GZ isn't comprised of just a 2 hour campaign. There are many other side missions and things to do that will take up extra hours to get through. If GZ was just a straight campaign game then I can understand people's quarrels but that's not the case here and many people are failing to understand this.

Well, a game with a 2 hour campaign and 5 side missions isn't worth $90. I mean, I know people are gonna pull the "open world" card but really, the actual area that Ground Zeroes is comprised of is so small in equivalent to say, the GTA IV & V, Red Dead Redemption or the Arkham Games. The possibilities are quite limited for it's game type, so you can't really even explore all that much and just screw around for fun.

I'm sure it's very pretty and has an interesting twist on the classic gameplay, but charging full price for a prologue and a handful of side quests seems terribly unfair in my opinion.

$90???? Where are you getting that figure from?? The game at most will cost 40 and that's for a hard copy on the ps4/xbone and the game is a prologue and is being marketed as such not a full blown game so why you're comparing the size of the game to full/complete games is beyond me. Where are you getting your info from? You have been misinformed on the facts.

One of you will cave. Science says 1 out of every 3 Metal Gear fans cave to a metal gear product they don't need.

I'm unbreakable, so it's between Havok and Beats. I mean, I will get it, just not at launch.

I definetly won't get one at launch but the right price could tempt me, but really I have too many games to occupy my time that I don't see myself having the itch to go get this. I definetly refuse to pay more than $20 for it

It is still not worth $40. For a prologue, I would not be willing to pay more than $20 - $25.

Just for reference, the PS3/360 versions will be $30.

Did you not read my whole post? $40 is the price for a hard copy current gen game; there are cheaper alternatives and GZ isn't just the prologue and even then, the prologue is in no way shape or form a linear campaign in terms of how to complete the objective. This game in terms of actual playtime is more than many games out there with shorter play times and cost full whack prices. At the end if the day the choice is ultimately the buyers; don't like it? Don't buy it. It's a simple yet poignant philosophy but one would do well to not confuse themselves with what the game is actually offering. The pricing imo is reasonable.

Games that usually have short campaigns have hundreds of hours of online play poured into it by players.

This is essentially paying for a demo- a big demo, but a demo nonetheless.

Also, don't worry, I'm not gonna buy it.

Kojima on PS4: 'Closest to the photorealistic quality we are aiming at':

http://www.metalgearinformer.com/?p=12548

"In a ‘conversation with creators’ video released by Sony Kojima talked a bit about Metal Gear Solid V in relation to the PlayStation 4.

Sony’s new system is just a little over a week away of releasing in Japan. Kojima had this to say about the console:

I think, between the home consoles available in the domestic market, the PS4 is the best. It’s also excellent for graphics, being able to render 1080p at 60fps with room to spare. Since it does it a little better than other hardware, the image quality of the PS4 is the most beautiful. It’s the closest to the photorealistic quality we are aiming at.
Keep in mind that the Xbox One doesn’t have a release date yet for japan.

The map will be loaded in the background, which means there is no need for loading times between smaller areas like there were in mgs1. Back then systems did not have the memory required to load the whole map, but with ps4 this is possible. Because of this, kojima can develop a challenging game of hide-and-seek that he always wanted to create.

The aim was to create a photorealistic game, but through the eye of the camera lens rather than through the naked eye. This is imitated through things like the real-time lighting techniques that were used for this game.

Creating games with a lot of freedom that still tell a compelling story is what kojima sees as the biggest challenge for the future."

Here is the original video (in japanese):"

By the time GZ is released ill have a PS4, and I want to fully experience it on that hardware.

Also, There are many games with DLC that contain roughly 3 or 4 hours of total play time and are still half the price of the PS3/360 alternatives. A prime example is the Left Behind prequel to The Last of Us released at $15. Even at $30, the price for GZ is outrageous. I'll still be renting it though, so I'm really not that upset over it.

No its not. This is a demo.. Bravely Default (3DS) has like a five hour long story demo..a separate from the game story demo with all sorts of charge choices to make and loot to find.. That transfer over to the full game... And it's FREE!

Ground Zeroes is a bull***** lame duck excuse for making money because Konami has no real money makers anymore besides MGS and they're hoping fans are crazy enough to buy this.

I hope it blows up in their face.

"Back in Amsterdam after a hellish flight from Tokyo to Moscow and then Moscow to Amsterdam.

Anyway, Ground Zeroes is pretty damn good. Mechanically, easily the best Metal Gear game I've ever played. Prettiest too, but that shouldn't come as a surprise. I didn't see a real difference between the Xbone and PS4 versions, but then again, I'm not a graphics ****e in the slightest and don't go around looking for inconsistencies.

I'd say it'll take a Metal Gear fan around 7-8 hours to play through all of the missions at least once. Maybe 6 if they're the kind of people who're used to playing European Extreme on the older games.

After playing through all of the missions once, I had completed about 28%. The rest of that percentage is mostly just replaying missions, to complete it on Hard and get higher rankings.

It's a great game, just a bit expensive."

"Yeah, two hours for the main mission and about 45 minutes for each side mission.

To unlock the final side mission you need to collect all nine XOF patches, and they're hidden ingeniously."

On side missions:

"They add some story context, yes. Not very much, though, but still.

The missions range from "blow up the anti air cannons" to "find out and kill two specific soldiers before they exit the base". It's pretty fun stuff."

Would you be more happy if they didn't release Ground Zeros?

The only thing that grinds my gears is lockable dlc that is already in the game disk.

I would. Id rather they just wait and release it with PP as one MGS V package. There's no need to split it other than money. The worse thing that could happen is for nonsense like this to become a trend going into this gen, especially if it sells well and other publishers take notice

I for one would rather get to play a piece of the game that's finished than what another 2 years before getting to play anything. And this has a lot more content than a demo, that complainathon is getting real old.

Metal Gear Solid V Was Going To Have An ’80s Filter. February 15, 2014 . 9:30am

Metal Gear Solid V was going to have an “‘80s filter” that director Hideo Kojima wanted to include in the game.

Metal Gear Solid V was going to have an “‘80s filter” that director Hideo Kojima wanted to include in the game. Kojima also referred to this as the “Apocalypse Now” filter, he said over Twitter.

The idea for the filter was largely dropped, but you can still see remnants of it in Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, in the form of a burnt film effect on the screen when the player takes damage.

The reason for its removal was an issue that Kojima Productions actually encountered in Metal Gear Solid IV. In that game, they attempted to implement a glare effect that strengthened shadows. They dubbed this the “Munich filter”.

Unfortunately, the effect blackened out a number of the finer graphical details in the game, including those on character models. As a result, Kojima jokes that the idea of another such filter was met with strong opposition from his designers.

No it doesn't. Go play the Bravely Default demo that is more or less a 5-6 hour side quest...That's FREE.

This is 40 damn dollars.. Lower it to 10 and maybe you'd have less *****ing.

Yes...Or release it, as the extended demo it is, for free. Make it digital release only.

"Hey guys, MGSV is a while off.. here's this free two hour game to hold you over!"

You'd have people THANKING them over being annoyed at them.

This.

Everyone that's saying this isn't a bad idea/deal will help turn the heads of other developers who will want to do this is it's successful. Then when this becomes more common you'll see the very same people that are cheering this one (because it's MGS) being fairly angry at other devs like EA or Activision for doing it.
