Portable Ops is only semi-canon amd has fairly awful controls. If you wanted, you could skip it.

Peace Walker was released after MGS 4, but like I said before if there's ever an exception to not play in release order it's to play MGS 4 last, because MGS 4 is the grand conclusion to the series.

I already got portable ops, so I'm definitely playing it. Even if it's semi canon, I guess there are still some interesting stuffs going on.

But what you say about MGS4 is interesting, so I may play it last. Thanks for the advice.

So I was playing Revengence the other day and came to the realization that Raiden is the new Big Boss. Now I might be late to the party, but it just hit me while I was fighting Armstrong.

Well, he's walking the same path as him at least.

- they were both in the military at a young age (Big Boss joined the army as a teen, Raiden was... well, y'know)
- they both got tricked into helping a secret society (Philosophers/Patriots)
- they both rebelled from said society's control to carve their own path (MGS4/Peace Walker)
- and as of Rising, they both had to kill the only person who understood their ideals (Armstrong/The Boss) and began a questionably ethical one-man war on what they saw as corrupt (MSF vs Cipher/Raiden vs PMCs)
- even they are both missing an eye.

I think you are the only one Ive read thats made that comparison. Raiden as the new Big Boss? Just, no

Perhaps I worded it wrong. I did't mean to assume Raiden was going to end up BEING Big Boss, but rather his development runs parallel to Big Boss' development. That's why I had to clarify in my second post.

I guess in a vague way. Probably closer to Gray Fox really. Except the dying part, but I almost wish they would've just killed him off.

I read your second post but I've still not heard that comparison before nor have I felt that when playing Rising. Then again you seem to have gotten more out of the story there than I did so maybe that's it as I found it highly forgettable

There are only 2 people that come close to paralleling BB and they're, Solid Snake and Solidus.

All the Snakes parallel each other. In fact Liquid Snake and Solidus Snake were obsessed with surpassing Big Boss as a villain, each trying to create their own Outer Heaven, with Liquid concerned about his army bretheren and Solidus converned with finding freedom.

Solid Snake was concerned with distancing himself from Big Boss and surpassed him as a legend, becoming "The Legendary Hero of Shadow Moses".

I think it's fairly obvious that although narratively Solid Snake is a clone of Big Boss, ironically, production wise Naked Snake is a clone of Solid Snake.

All the Snakes parallel each other.

This. Many of the game scenarios parallel as well, with MGS2 the most overt of them all. Even MG1 has been retconned into history repeating itself. It's not a coincidence.

What really differentiates Solid from the rest is his stubborn commitment to the mission and chain of command in spite of all the crud that goes his way. All the other Snakes reject their subordinate role as a pawn, make themselves a target, and get wiped out. Meanwhile Solid keeps getting underestimated and seen as an expendable pawn, but always carries out his original mission.

Heck, if Big Boss or the Patriots were smart, they'd send him on his missions without any double speak or manipulations. Because Solid will accomplish whatever he's supposed to do, regardless of whatever obstacles his own commanders put in his way.

Hm, nah, I think you've got that a little backwards.

Did anybody else here get a bit nauseous from the Shaky cam plus 60fps in this game???

I felt sea sick through the entire opening cutscene.

Idk
The high frame rate plus fast moving camera just made me dizzy
It's the first game I've played that I know has run consistently at 60fps, and it's like looking at a TV with high refresh rates, or watching that 48fps Hobbit, apparently it makes me sick to my stomach

at this point, I may have to agree with the developers on "the Order:1886" that I like the lower frame rate for it's more filmic qualities

MGS tends to be a much more slow paced game that it doesn't need a high frame rate

I doubt it. If anything, it'll likely be a generic Fall 2015 line but no actual date
