The Dark Knight The Official Plot holes thread.

I've noticed throughout the movie the Joker sometimes had a lot of green in his hair, other times little.

Ive also noticed at one point his makeup looks brand new again and not smeared. Granted it was plausible for him to reapply at that point if i recall.

Alright, for the people wondering how Dent gets in Maroni's car...after a 3rd viewing I noticed it. As Maroni's driver opens Maroni's door, another goon is walking to the left side of the car, reaching out to open the door. As the camera pans to Maroni, you can see the goon get jerked back...it is very quick as the scene shifts to Maroni speaking.

I really can't find a single plot hole in this movie that isn't out of the realm of the movie's reality.

I've probably mention this in this thread but anyways,

How is it that the Joker has superhuman strength, able to survive batman beatings without slipping out of consciousness and able to survive a mack truck flip?

How is it that the Joker has superhuman strength,

What superhuman strength????

able to survive batman beatings without slipping out of consciousness

First that would be a sign of "stamina" not strength.

And second your assuming that Batman was hitting him hard enough to knock him into consciousness.

Why would Batman hit him that hard???????He was trying to get information.

and able to survive a mack truck flip?

Plenty of people survive fliping over in a truck every year.

Its called "LUCK".

He's a tough SOB. As for him surviving a mack truck flip. He didn't have much of a flip as you would think. I'm speaking of course of the actual truck and not the trailer section. I did notice his goons get out of the trailer after the flip and I thought that was a bit out there to actualy be conscious afterwards.

Him being hit in the face by Batman, he just toughs it out. Pain doesn't seem to bother him.

Not really a "plot hole", but what the hell happened at the party after Batman saved Rachel?? The Joker just left? It seemed weird that that scene wasn't resolved properly...

Yup, he just left.

Half the things in this thread aren't really plot holes tbh :p

The part after the interrogation room scene when Bats is runing out and Gordon asks which one is he going to save and Bats says Rachel...if I were Gordon I would be like ''Wtf? Why is she that important to you?''

That website is pretty sad.

Right or wrong, just enjoy a ****ing movie

There wasn't any time to think about it I guess. Besides, Gordon did get the vaccine from Rachel in Batman Begins, so you probably can say Gordon knows Rachel and Batman know each other and can assume they're quite close.

Not really a plothole

Ok, I haven't seen BB in a while so I forgot about the vaccine.

Or maybe cause they're both D.A.'s in Gotham City and that if someone doesn't save them they'll die?

Who cares who he saves? He has to save one.

the other question is did Bruce do the right thing, MORALLY, by going to get Rachel.

"Killing is a choice"

Had he picked Harvey would he be "killing" Rachel? No; because she means something to him so It'd be a sacrifice

But by Picking Rachel he did not act in the best interest of Gotham; and thusly did not follow his oath to protect Gotham.

In BB Bruce saves Rachel and Alfred says something like "This can't be personal" and Bruce Responds with "It was RACHEL Alfred"

In that moment Bruce shows a weakness; because this can't be a vendetta thing; this has to be "for the better of Gotham thing"

Bruce shows his resentment for his mistake of choosing Rachel a little later in TDK

"I let that Psychopathic Murderer blow him [Dent] Half way to hell"

Of course Harvey wasn't really blown up; but, had Joker not lied Bruce DID let Harvey get Blown up when we know that he is the D.A. who's going to clean the streets. And while he wishes he could have save Rachel in Hindsight he knows that Saving Harvey would have been the better choice and that Joker played on a weakness of his.

By choosing Rachel he chose to act as Bruce Wayne and not Batman...thusly we start to see the deterioration of the Batman through human means.

there is a condition where people dont actually feel any pain, its something to do with the information sent from nerves to the brain but i dont know what its called. as for the truck flip, the cab didnt really take that much force it was the trailer that went up into the air and slammed down.

I have one doubt about one scene at the begginning , when the fake batmans are attacking the drug dealers, one of them get sprayed by the Scarecrow with the fear toxin , but then again when Batman had them all wrapped up for the police the fake batman seemed to be fine , remember in the first one when Rachel get sprayed by Scarecrow she almost died,

there was more than one fake batman, the one who being more vocal was brian douglass. the one who got sprayed was probly a quivering wreck off screen! :)

There are some minor plot holes with no explanation, ill admit, like Batman showing up or leaving with not 1 sound made and no1 noticing until hes gone or appeared on screen.

This isn't a plot hole, this is great storytelling and great editing. This is how mysterious and amazing Batman is.

If Nolan showed us every little detail of Batman's behavior, it wouldn't have the same impact.

Like in the interrogation room when the light flips on and Batman has been there the whole time, the audience I saw the film with collectively felt the shock! If they cheesed out and Gordon said, "I like you to meet a friend of mine" and then opened the door and Batman walked in, that would have been trite and horrible.

I LOVED the way he seems to appear and disappear. It's just cool. It's part of the Batman mythos.

Considering Scarecrow and his fear toxin have been on the streets since BB (about a year), it's not outrageous to assume Batman and the Police are armed with the antidote. They probably encounter people poisoned by Crane on a regular basis.

I thought that when watching and it's been mentioned a good few times here. I found it bizarre that Batman knows exactly where Joker is (his penthouse) but for some reason doesn't go back up to get him. Apart from the glaring fact that a penthouse apartment is not the easiest of places to escape from.

How did the Joker get the grenades past the metal detector?

Many grenades have ceramic or carbon fiber casings. The shattering casing causes hot, jagged fragments to be deadly projectiles. The blast can take your head off, but the shrapnel is deadly for a much greater distance.

One thing I found a bit stupid was the opening scene when they show the joker from behind, standing at the street corner waiting for the goons to pick him up. he doesn't wear his mask yet and only puts it on when he enters the car but, as we know, already has to have applied his make-up as that is how we see him later when he pulls off the mask in the bank. so why would he be standing there with his make up in the broad daylight and let everybody see him? surely his looks would arouse much more attention than wearing an average clown mask. later on, during the commissioner's funeral, he doesn't wear make up either for obvious reasons.
So I found this one a bit weak but probably the filmmakers haven't thought about that.

sweet, so you can explain to me how the sonar device at the end was possible. look forward to hearing about that.

My understanding was, and I might be wrong, Fox's device interpreted an existing cell signal as radar. This is how Batman was able to utilize Gotham's phones to map out most of the city.

but to make that work, the phones require modification. fox himself, when explaining the phone to bruce in hong kong, said he modified it. and turning a phones signal into 3-d live sonar, would require modification with hardware technology. its not just a program you'd upload and install.

If this is sarcasm, I would like to point out that he did qualify with "the movies reality."

As for how it worked in the movies realm of reality, the device hacked into all the cellphones, getting them to emit pings which are then heard by the same phone's own speaker sending the info back to the machine which takes the data and is able to create an image. I suppose the computer is so powerful it can take all that info and compile a large area like the building they were in.
