...he left the penthouse and goes wherever the heck he goes when he's not on screen? Joker didn't exactly have a lair in this film.

Batman's first priority was to save Harvey Dent. Then when Rachel was threatened, he wanted to save her since she was in the most immediate danger. By the time he got back up there (via grappling gun, elevator, whatever), Joker had probably skedaddled.

That's what I'm saying? Why put him in the middle of the goddamn pile? Have him be on the ground somewhere and Joker just casually shoots him. But showing him once on the pile and then having Joker just start the fire without seeing him ever again is stupid, especially when you could've handled it a lot easier, simpler and cleaner.

Having Joker shoot him would be.. well... boring? In my opinion, at least. He went through all that scheming to get a hold of the guy and that's how he's going to finish him off? If he's going to be that bland, he might as well have hooked a couple of guns up to Rachel and Harvey with timers on them instead of putting them in a room full of explosives. And I don't see why we need to have this big focus on Lau while Joker and the Chechen are talking. We clearly saw him up there, we know he's being burned to a crisp, so what more is there left to say (or show) on the matter? With Batman Begins, people complained that Nolan was beating people over the head with certain concepts, and now when he's going for something more subtle, people are complaining that he's now showing enough. Sometimes I think folks don't know what they want.

And as to why Lau isn't having a screaming fit up there, he could be gagged (I didn't notice whether he was or not when I saw it), or drugged, or the fumes from the fire could have knocked him out. It does look like those flames are taking a while to get to the top. In the old days, when they did witch burnings and the like, the victim was usually unconscious from the fumes before the fire got to her (or him). Because of that, they actually looked into ways to start a fire so that the smoke wouldn't knock them out so quickly.

When Gordon comes out of Dent's hospital room, and Maroni is there, they have a bit of a conversation, and then Maroni says, "I know where he'll be this afternoon." (Referring to the Joker).

Where is that?

The next scene we have of Gordon is of him assembling cops to raid this place, but then they have to change plans and rush off to the hospitals after Joker makes his call into the talk show. Where was Maroni going to send them, and was it a trap, or what?

It's not that I want to see Lau die a gruesome horrible death. it's just that they show a frame with him on top of the pile and they never show another frame with him again. I mean, the dude was pretty important throughout the movie and they like forget about him.

You just don't do that. I mean the second he saw Joker lit up the fire he should've rolled over and fall down off the pile. We just don't know what happened to the guy and you ca suggest a thousand different things, plausible or implausible, unless we see a deleted scene on the DVD or something, we still won't know and that is shoddy filmmaking.

Yeah, the victim was tied on a pole. Seems to me Lau had only his hands because he was sitting down with his knees crossed I think, he could've rolled over the second the fire started. But again, we're left wondering

The warehouse where Joker is burning the money. Joker even goes, "Where's the Italian?" meaning that Maroni was supposed to be there but didn't show.

I think Maroni thought Joker had gone too far, and wanted him caught. He never did trust him to begin with. I mean, Maroni thought that Batman was the worst of their problems, and here comes Joker killing people willy-nilly.

Maroni's already pretty much healed from that fall, aside from the cane.

don't know if i'd call it a plot hole, pre-say

but, I was thinking about the jail scenes with the joker, in real life you think they'd (not that anyone would've wanted to get that close to his face) but, wash the make up off (especially, if they were trying to ID him, or if they took mug shots)
also, they probably would've taken his shoes, belt, tie... as well

His goon was driving. When Joker gets into the bus, he gives a hand signal to the driver and that's when it starts going.

I said burning to death. I know people get burnt in PG-13 movies all the time. Harvey catches on fire in the very same movie.

What I can't recall is any movies where a person burns to death on camera in a PG-13 movie where it isn't implied.

I can play this game too. What happens to the Chechen? Joker's men just drags him off as the Joker says out loud "How about we cut you up into little pieces". I mean we didn't see it and he disappears off camera so there's no evidence here either.

Also, what happens to Maroni? We see the car flip over and he's not wearing a seat belt. The scene just flashes from the interior of the car to the car flipping.

Other than that pic of Lau on the burning money, we dont really see anything in the film that shows us he is burning to death on the cash.

Yup. I really dug it. Joker taking Lau's death so casually was awesome.

I wonder if any shots of Lau freaking out and begging were cut for the PG-13 rating. I also wonder if any off screen screams were cut for the same reason. After all, what you don't see can be scarier than what you do see.

Just like a little cut to Gamble's mouth won't be enough to kill him. This isn't a plot hole, his death is just being handled discreetly.

Here's what happened. Joker's search for Harvey Dent immediately ended when Batman jumped after Rachel, so he just LEFT. Remember the line in the interrogation room?

Joker: "You know... for a minute there I thought you WERE Dent... the way you leapt out the window after her...."

When Harvey later "reveals" himself as Batman, Joker all of a sudden gets a bug up his ass to "randomly" attack the armored car? No, he's doing so because BATMAN is in it, or the man he thinks is Batman.

So when Batman REALLY shows up, that fun little "Hmm" we got from Joker? The realization that Harvey ISN'T Batman after all.

So that's it. He just left. He now knew where Harvey Dent was: in the streets, fighting crime as Batman (as far as he knew). From there all he had to do was lure him out (as Batman) and rid the city of him.
