Not confirmed. It was rumored through a neogaf post from someone working at a retailer.

It's still possible, and hopefully true, but no one knows. We will probably get release day announcements next week.

Sony has secured the rights to carry Viacom's cable channels (MTV, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, Spike, etc.) on its PlayStation platform along with BRAVIA televisions and other devices. Sony is currently in negotiations with Disney (ABC, Disney Channel, ESPN), Time Warner (TBS, TNT, CNN, HBO, Cartoon Network, CW), and CBS (CBS, CW, Showtime, CBS Sports) to have their channels join their online cable service. Sony's online service will also include personalization features that recommend other shows to watch which can be influenced by content providers as well.

What makes this deal unique is that unlike deals made with Microsoft and the Xbox platform which are Video-On-Demand apps and in order to play live TV users need to use apps provided by the cable providers, Sony's online cable service will include live feeds of these channels and is reportedly the first deal of it's kind between a tech firm and a media conglomerate to go outside the cable providers to provide the channels.

You wouldn't have to pay for cable, no... but you would probably have to pay for "Sony TV" or whatever it's called.

This isn't like what Microsoft is doing by making deals with Time Warner Cable, Comcast and requiring them to provide live feeds. This is Sony going directly to the content providers and getting them to embrace over-the-top live feeds and VOD outside of the cable providers like what Intel, Apple, and Google are trying to do. You'll need to have an Internet connection (most likely provided by a cable provider), but you don't need them for the channel feeds.

well, I'm interested in Internet Browsing, watching Youtube, and managing media files likes pictures and videos.

I do want my PS4 to be my entertainment/media hub.

indeed, that's one reason why I've been using my PS3 more than my 360. I've found the PS3 easier to store and play media files like pics and videos easier than the chore that's the 360.

IA. I hope the PS4 comes with more compatibility for media files. Unless you're streaming, the PS3 could be limited.

I also hope the Youtube app is improved. It needs HD support and it needs the old style keyboard. Hopefully the Wifi 802.11n and increased ram means will get faster and better stability when it comes to this stuff
