The Official PS4 Thread - Part 3

A bit disappointed in Knack reviews but it was my free game in Amazon's deal so I'm okay with that. It will be a nice game to play with the fiancé. Honestly none of the other alternatives as a free choice (already got AC IV and Killzone) interested me anyway.

Killzone could have scored a 6 and I would have grabbed it for the graphics showcase alone, lol. I'm getting both BF and Killzone (as well as AC4) because I feel both will be different enough from each other.

Ya part of me feels that too.

Surprisingly, its the indie titles that are scoring higher

Sorry for being lazy, I'm at work and don't feel like searching around. Is it true you need to download something to play Blu-ray films on the PS4? Not that that's a big deal, just curious.

You need to download the day-1 patch, and you also need to activate it by playing a blu-ray.

Sony has to pay a liscense fee for every user using blu-ray functionality, which they paid for everyone on the PS3. This way they are only paying for the specific users that are using the Blu-Ray functions

Rev games explained that while Knack has room for improvement it's still a fun game and one that Sony should hopefully expand into a franchise.

We're kind of past talking about this, but I think the lack of CD playback is probably for a similar reason I suspect BC was cut: to cut corners and get costs of production down as much as possible. I think both Sony and MS realized they were on the verge of creating costly machines, and will probably still see loses on units sold, so they're looking to cut just about anything that isn't essential out.

Adam Sessler was right when he said gamers are the worst fanbase.. Ever.

Clearly, he knows nothing about comic fanbases.

That's one of the dumbest things Sessler's ever said.

Which ones?
Resogun and Sound Shapes got a 9.0 on IGN and Flower got a 9.5. Contrast is the lowest at 7.5 but thats still good.

I really dont see how CD playback keeps production costs down when every bluray device theoretically has that capability built into its hardware. CD tech has been around for over 20 years now. The inclusion of that is rather insignificant especially if one were to compare licensing fees to something newer like bluray

nah Id say gamers are the worst.

I really don't think so.. The gaming fanbase tend to be the worst. At the same time video game "journalism" isn't journalism at all.. It's PR.. But I've been saying for years that I've often been embarrassed to call myself a gamer based on the vocal majority.

And they are the majority. The educated gamers.. The ones that make this hobby fun.. Us.. Are few and far between.

Well, the vocal majority are the ones who helped Sony decide to go in the direction they've gone with PS4 and they're the ones who got Microsoft to reverse all their ridiculous bull**** on the Xbone. I really think you're being too hard on your gamer brethren.

Almost $540? Dang. Congrats on the confirmation. Now I eagerly await mine. They still havent updated my account for any of the pending orders I have

With the X1 situation, I cringed at both sides. I really felt gamers came across entitled and MS caved in and showed that year, as long as you are loud and obnoxious you will get your way. Really not the best precedence to send going into the gen. It reminded me of the whole EA/ME3 situation from last year. Again, gamers b-tched and did so in such an ugly and arrogant way and EA caved instead of standing their ground.

I work with the public. I'm never "too hard." :p

I should be tho!

Would have been $500, but there was a law passed recently in my state about taxes on Amazon. :/

Which negates one of the big reasons I love Amazon. I probably won't buy much on there now because of that.

I don't see the problem though? Gamers were loud? Yes. As well they should have been. Obnoxious though? I guess that depends on your perspective.

I have to disagree. Yes there is times where the hardcore can be annoying, but that is with really any group. When there are truly justifiable bad things out there, people need to stand up to it. Or you are just getting....."deal with it" I can't stand that. Like I'm glad Bioware is listening, there are those that are over the top, but like a lot of us can't stand they've gone "action" oriented over the years. and DA3 is seeming to go back to their roots.

Gamers voices can be used for good. It's not entitlement, it's just what the consumer demands. MS is an entitled company, they would charge you for turning on their system if they could. They acted as if we should be thankful for terrible ideas. That's been MS for 20+years.

I can see it both ways I guess.. I do tend to think the gaming fanbase tends to be the worst when it comes to b_tching about nothing... But also they can be one of the best when it comes to "fighting the fight" and getting gaming companies to see things in a better light.

Ya there are minor things they yell it that really are pointless, but there are also things that like you said are important to stand up and demand better.

It's probably not expensive, but it's also probably not expensive to put in PS1/PS2 emulation either, but it's still a cost, and I think they pretty much cut everything they saw as unessential to hardware despite the actual production cost. Honestly, there's no other valid reason I can think of for the exclusion of either.

They aren't. Not even close.

Not even close.

well for the emulation, I think it ties into Gaikai. I cant imagine that being free so they’ll likely charge for the service and make gamers go there if they want to access PS1/PS2 games

well IMO alot of the more vocal gamers were. MS got more than a beating from gamers all over the place. It was excessive and did get obnoxious

Could be, but I don't think it invalidates what I'm saying
