Just interviewed @yosp and he said that upcoming PS4 firmware will let you turn off light bar on controller!

whether that is true or not, it still remains a complaint bc people have been vocal about the light being a distraction

From what I could gather, turning it off could maybe add an hour to the battery life.

I don't have the glare issue that some people have, and hardly notice the light bar, but it is super bright if you're playing the dark.

I like it when a game uses it well, like Outlast and Tomb Raider, but most games don't do much with it or it just goes nuts all the time (DCUO). I really liked how Outlast utilized it. I have no problem turning it off if the game isn't using it well.

Oh I fully believe the light bar causes battery drainage. No way my DS4 should be fully charged then an hour later down more than half. I even have it set to turn off after 10 mins of non use or whatever.

so, down the road, do you think it will be possible for them to radically change the overall UI?

or at least make it easier to organize stuff?

I think they should add the ability to "pin" items in place, so they don't constantly move around based on if you use them.

Agreed,I posted before that we should be able to remove or at least hide apps and stuff on the UI,I'd hide/remove the What's New screen and most video apps except Netflix&WWE Network since I use those,I would also remove games from showing up and put them in the My Library section where I can only access the games with only game showing up on the UI being the game disc I have in or digital game I have opened up

yes.

and if/when they add media playback, there will need to be a better way to store/organize all of that personal content. All of that should go into the My Library app. And that should have further subdivisions and folders we can use to organize our content.

it almost feels like there needs to be another "navigation bar."

like a vertical side bar that's on the left side of the screen. as you scroll through the different categories on that, it "opens up" to the tiles on the right, on the main area like it is now.

something like that.

So this past week, I've picked up ground zeroes, second son, and the FFX/X2 remaster (ps3 game but still). I think that'll keep me busy until watchdogs comes out. Still have to beat tomb raider and outlast as well. I also traded in bf4 and need for speed, killzone is Gonna be my game for multiplayer.

The speed of this system never ceases to amaze me. I literally just switched from infamous to youtube, to PS Live and then back to infamous in a manner of seconds.
