The Official PS4 Thread - Part 5

I'm at the point where I just keep my DS4 plugged in.. The battery life is awful even when it's dimmed.. They do need to make a patch where you can turn it off.

My battery does fine. I got 8 hours in on Infamous Second Son without plugging it up. Thats plenty of playtime for one setting.

I would like to be able to turn the light off tho, but only because it is annoying.

I think mine typically lasts somewhere between 6-8 hours, which pales in comparison to my Xbox One controller. I can sink 5 hours into that pad and the thing is less than 25% depleted. At least my ps4 is close enough to my tv that if my pad does die on me, I can plug it in, which has happened once.

Thankfully I sit fairly close to the tv so I can charge the controller if need be. It does run out pretty fast, but I'm glad to not have to use batteries and I love the ps4 controller, so I'm good

Wait, am I understanding correctly that you can't turn off the PS4 controller at all?

Yeah you can, hold the button and different options will appear and so you go into devices and turn off controller

The easiest way to get all of your screen shots onto your computer in full quality, is to copy them onto a usb drive. and then put them onto your PC. Didn't know I could do it so I was pretty happy to discover that feature. Now I have all my screen shots on my pc, ready to share.

I don't use batteries for my X1 controller either(got the play n charge thing). Im guessing its that light bar, but there really is no reason for that pad to have such short battery life. I know the bar is gonna be used for that new VR stuff whenever it comes out, but I don't know why they didnt give us an option to turn it off. Its such a well designed pad that those little flaws stand out far more than they should.

No you can, you cant turn off the Light Bar on the pad though, which some believe leads to the PS4 controllers short battery life.

Hasn't that been known for quite some time? I know I've heard it before.

Sony 4K movie service will work with PS4, require 100GB-plus downloads

This is old but does anyone know if there's been any progress on this front? If Sony deliver 4K downloads for films and Microsoft don't, or take years longer to, I'll have to get it. PS3 & PS2 served a great purpose as a blu-ray & DVD player and this time could be the go to for the next level of technology.

100+ gig downloads!? Jesus.

I don't know much about it, but I have doubts 4K is going to become a major thing.

EDIT: I mean that in regards to replacing Blu-ray as a new format, by the way. I don't know enough about it to say if it's a natural progression of current HD or not.

Yeah, unpredictable things like this are why I find it very hard to make a judgement on how much space I'll actually need. If I was forced to install all my retail games that would have been about 3TB last gen with no media at all and when games were small. Never expected to fill the biggest hard drives years before the gen was over.

If these 4K films catch on I'll upgrade all my favourite films on whichever platform makes it easy and cheap to do (whether that's one of the 2 or a non gaming platform). Btw high end home cinema is one my main hobbies and I think 4K will seriously take off when the dam bursts. Hardly anyone has seen good 4K yet as it's too expensive to take up floor space in shops aimed at non enthusiasts. I saw a TV in Dubai that made my eyes bleed, it looked like something 2 generations ahead, never mind merely next gen. ;) It's a ridiculous price now but that same TV will be about £2k in 6 or 7 years while still great sets will be about £600 and they will be showstoppers in regular shops. This is the 1st technology that ALL the TV manufacturers have got behind in years and I'm sure it will take off in the future when cable channels and streaming services make the move (many have already started). But I agree that a new physical format will be a hard sell. Even blu-ray is struggling now. People seem to favour the convenience of Netflix and cable to high quality discs even though they seem to want to buy the TV capable of playing them. I bet there's still quite a few grannies out there with an HDTV who've been watching for years with absolutely no HD content. :woot:

Do you have the Playstation app on your tablet? You can also save the images by messaging them to someone on PSN and then opening the message in the app and saving the image to your device.

WHAT!? 100gigs for a movie? Am i reading that right? Wow.

I don't know if MS will deliver 4K downloads and at 100gigs per, I wouldn't even want them to, but the One comes with a 4K rated HDMI cable, so its at least on their minds to an extent.

so is the PS4 ever going to get a Youtube app?

Yeah, there must be some reason for that 4k enabled cable, and it's not going to be for games if they're struggling with 1080p at 60 FPS lol. If they want to give this console a long lifecycle then this will become relevant 5 or 6 years down the line and it will be a big deal to some like me. The 16TB suddenly doesn't seem so big if you can blow that much space just on films!
