Well, this is interesting. With the new PS4, the Last of Us also spins for about 5 minutes.

I guess... that's an improvement over the buzz saw noise the first one made.

Still not normal, right?

what do you mean by "spin?" you can hear it making a whirring noise?

if it's just for 5 minutes, it could be cuz it's installing from the disc. maybe that's why it sounds more intense.

did it only do that the 1st time you put Last of Us in?

if the game is already installed, try ejecting the disc, putting it back in, and start running the game again. does it make the noise again?

there's something there about the controllers being "unresponsive" and the need to "reset" or "resync" with the console. Look under "General Controller Malfunction."

maybe resetting or resyncing the controller might help?

okay so I guess that little hole next to the L2 button is an option in the future but right now, I've got nothing that can fit into there. Thank you for finding this for me though.

you don't have a paperclip or something that can fit?

did you try resyncing the controller with the console again? did it work?

Let me clarify.

When I first insert the game, it downloads, the disc drive makes noise as expected. However any time after downloading the game, whenever I start up the console, and the game is in it, the disc drive will be very audible for approximately 5 minutes. Even if I am not playing the game at all. Which I find rather perplexing.

So, I could have the Destiny disc in, turn on the PS4, never touch the game, and the disc drive is still audible for five minutes when I start up the console.

For some reason Watch Dogs, is the only game that behaves the way other people describe. I.e. when I open the game, I hear the disc drive for a few seconds, and then dead silence as the game begins.

Now with the Last of Us, I have all that (the 5 minutes of disc drive noise if the disc is in the console), and the fans are audible immediately, which.. is odd.

Be good to know, but I am returning it. I have had it with Sony.

Perhaps I will buy an Xbox. I don't know. But I have had it with this crap. I am sending both back on Monday, and calling it a day.

Maybe when they release a PS4 Slim which isn't riddled with design problems, I'll consider giving this another chance.

If it gets me banned by Amazon, so be it. I am not wasting 450 dollars on this crap.

Yes. The fan never was an issue, it only became noticeable with the Last of Us. Even then it wasn't jet loud, about as loud as an original PS3. Which... is perhaps louder than I would have hoped.

I just found it odd, because I never heard it before playing Destiny or Watch Dogs.

and hope you have better luck with an Xbox if you decide to get one.

make sure you delete your accounts from your PS4s. and, if you want, reformat or restore your consoles back to factory default. if you want to be safe and erase your info.

Honestly maybe I should just buy a used PS4 that works properly.

I am happy to read that the trade-in value for my PS4 controller is about 35, I bought it for 40, so, a 5 dollar loss isn't too bad.

I would probably get the Sunset Overdrive bundle.

So, late October, or early November.

and, yeah, the stuff you can't return, I'd try to get as much trade in credit as possible. use it towards the X1.

are you planning on getting the X1 bundle from Amazon again? They're offering up to $12.48 for Watchdogs.

Amazon is a good place to do business, and their customer service is excellent, but for... temperamental electronics like these, I think buying them in a store where you can yell at people and demand instant refunds or exchanges is the way to go.

I guess I'll go see Gamestop about Watch Dogs.

I am, but I am not particularly interested in the game, so that's not an issue.

I may hold off until November, might be a good deal in the killing fields of Black Friday.

Having played the best the 8th gen has to offer... I'm not really missing out on anything, yet.

The Xbox One right now has nothing I want to play enough to buy one. But when Unity, Halo and GTA V comes out, it'll be a decent buy.

Plus... Tomb Raider is a nice thought.
