i'm gettin' one.

Okay. I am not joking. I just unboxed by brand new PS4, hooked it up... and strange gray screen. Tried a different HDMI ports on the TV. Same thing. Tried one more (have 4), flickering, with sound. Tried it with two different HDMI cables. Same problem.

Tried a different TV (a Sony), flickering. Gray. Both HDMIs.

Sony diagnosis? Defective HDMI connector.

man. wtf!! :csad:

you ordered it from Best Buy?

do you have a local store?

take it down there and get it exchanged ASAP!!

Best Buy. I mean, I don't even mind that I have to bring it back, but WTF is up with these consoles and me?

I mean, even my friend who thought I was exaggerating or just making this stuff up was just staring at this as it happened.

you must have the ol Peter Parker luck with consoles........lol.

but I'd take it back immediately and demand an exchange. keep doing it until you get a working console......lol.

you can exchange it at a local store, right?

Shouldn't be a problem.

But if I get one more defective one, I am going luddite.

But isn't this like getting hit by lightning twice?

if it makes you feel any better, i've gotten the same amount of consistent defective controllers (with the input lags) although having the actual console with the problems is a much bigger issue.

do what x said.

I've had an HDMI issue with my console before. Once when I turned my system on it gave me a black screen and flickers of activity. After changing HDMI cables and rebuilding the database nothing worked. Then I found a video that helped me and it was basically a handshake issue between the TV and PS4.

I can't remember the steps I had to take to fix it but it was something about turning off your console and your TV (I turned off the console with my Vita first I think). Then turning the TV back on and then your PS4 and the handshake should correct itself.

I'm not saying it's happening to you but I've had that issue happen to me before, and that's really the only problem I've ever had with my console about a year in. Good luck if you're exchanging your system. Here's the video that helped me btw

PlayStation Experience: three new panels revealed, “bunch of announcements” teased
Published 20 mins ago. 5 comments.

Titanfall dev is at one of the new panels.
PSX-GameSpot_12-02-14.jpg

PlayStation Experience this weekend will have “a bunch of announcements,” and “some pretty exciting stuff from across [Sony’s] Worldwide Studio,” according to Naughty Dog’s Eric Monacelli told GameSpot.
“We have a bunch of announcements coming, some pretty exciting stuff from across Worldwide Studios teams,” Monacelli said. “One of the biggest elements, like you’ve seen at other cons like BlizzCon is sort of the surprise effect. Like Overwatch, right? That sort of came out of nowhere and it was really cool to see. So I think we want to keep those close to the vest until the day comes. We’ll definitely get it out there. We have a ton of great panels, a ton of great games you can play, and some really cool swag and collectible stuff.”
Though, not all of us at home are going to hear about everything right as it happens. Some stuff will be broadcasted online, other things will make their way online naturally through fan discussion.
“Traditionally, there a few cons that broadcast everything, which is cool. But we want to keep some surprises and keep some stuff that, if you’re at the event, you hear about it first,” he added. “Or you hear about it, and you can go talk about it and share it and sort of be the mouthpiece for it. It’s a good gauge for what people are excited about. And that’s what we want. We want real, authentic conversations to start. We don’t want to force anything down people’s throats; we want people to talk about what they’re excited about.”
As for what Monacelli is most excited about, he said, “man, there’s a lot,” before adding that Saturday’s opening keynote will be one to remember.
“The keynote itself Saturday morning is going to be pretty great, I think. There will be a lot of cool announcements and information there.”
Asked if PlayStation Experience will have anything for the more casual, mass-market crowd, Monacelli offered the following tease:
“There’s going to be a lot of other opportunities that sort of spiral out of this PlayStation Experience that speak to a more mass audience,” Monacelli said. “Be it from some of the reveals and some of the media hits we’ll have after those reveals. Or if it’s just the fact that we have this really cool, new thing that we’re showing and everybody gets some eyeballs on it.”
Finally, Monacelli revealed three new panels set for the weekend. The first one is of interesting note given that Titanfall isn’t on PlayStation platforms.

  • Greatness for Everyone (December 6 at 11:30 a.m.) – Panel with representatives from Titanfall developer Respawn Entertainment, 505 Games, Sony’s MLB development team, and Sony’s University Relations team. It’s the perfect panel for people hoping to learn how to break into the game industry, Monacelli says. (Sunday 11:30 AM)
  • Project Morpheus and VR as a New Era for Games (December 6 at 12:00 p.m.) – This panel will feature representatives from Sony’s London Studio and Until Dawn developer Supermassive Games. In addition, the director of Morpheus R&D team, as well as PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida, will be on-hand.
  • Entwined Panel (Time TBA) – Developers from Pixel Opus will talk about their game, their relationship with Sony, and more during this panel.
PlayStation Experience runs from December 6 to 7.

hope the next firmware update with new features is teased/announced at the event.

They looked at me rather oddly at Best Buy when I threw salt over my shoulder as I walked out the store.

So far so good. Played two hours of GTA V. First person is ****ing intense. Graphics look nice, but nothing mind blowing. Though it's probably one of those things where if I ever play my PS3 version, I'll see how big the difference is.

My first impressions with this console following my Xbone experience: holy hell is it small. And then "is it on?"

I know, right? When you get a chance buy a hatchet from Ammunation and use that thing in first-person. It's insanity.

Yeah, when I have some more free time, I need to play around with it more, and customize the controls. I keep pressing the wrong buttons.

Oh and, Jad, I'm sorry I didn't respond to your post earlier about trying to fix the HDMI thing. I tried that last night, but it seems to have been an unfixable hardware problem. I appreciate the help.

Oh Ok cool. And no worries. I'm glad you at least tried

Top-selling games awarded, and perhaps something more.
PS-Awards-14-Live-Stream.jpg

This year’s PlayStation Awards will begin at 11:30 p.m. PST (December 2) / 2:30 a.m. EST / 4:30 p.m. Japan time.
The PlayStation Awards are held annually to award the highest-selling PlayStation titles in Japan. The “Platinum Prize” is awarded to games that shipped over one million units, while the “Gold Prize” is awarded to games that shipped over 500,000 units. There’s also a “User Choice” category voted by fans, as well as a “Special Prize” category awarded to games representing originality and influence.
While the event is regularly just an awards show, this year something more has been hinted. Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Asia president Atsushi Morita has promised a “special PlayStation 20th anniversary project” and Weekly Famitsu’s editor-in-chief has teased various “surprises” for the event. PlayStation’s own third-party relations manager Brad Douglas has also confirmed as much. Famitsu and Dengeki are also hosting a live stream event directly following the awards featuring a number of special guests, including Hideo Kojima and Yoji Shinkawa (Metal Gear Solid), Hiroyuki Kobayashi (Resident Evil), Hideo Baba (Tales of), Yuji Horii (Dragon Quest), and SCEJA president Atushi Morita himself. We’ll have a separate live stream post for that before it begins.

Trust me, I was just playing some GTA5 on the 360 last month and when I finished downloading it on the PS4, it was an immense difference. The environments with all the foliage and lighting and animals added is great. And the cut scenes look much better.

EDIT- thanks Dave....just look up the comparsion vids on youtube.
