Screenshot leaked from MVP beta program.

Sony Computer Entertainment has begun a new PlayStation 4 system software beta testing program for its PlayStation MVP Program members, and details on firmware update version 2.50, now in beta testing, have leaked.
The main feature of the 2.50 update is the long-awaited suspend/resume feature first announced at PlayStation 4’s reveal press conference in February 2013.
Here’s the outline:
Main Features

  • The system can now enter rest mode without closing any applications. You can adjust this setting in [Power Save Settings] > [Set Functions Available in Rest Mode].
  • [Accessibility] has been added to [Settings]. You can adjust accessibility settings such as zooming and button assignments.
This information comes from a beta tester who leaked the update screen image. There appears to be other features introduced in the update that are not main features, like one pertaining to trophies, but they are cut from the screenshot.
Update 3:28 p.m.: Here are more features, via Wario64 (2, 3):

  • Delete trophies with zero percent.
  • Search trophy details on the internet, including screenshots of scenes with trophies.
  • SharePlay at 60 frames per second.
  • Share trophy details and screenshots.
Update 4:08 p.m.: Apparently the firmware is being planned for a public release either later this month or sometime in April.
Update 6:28 p.m.: A screenshot of 2.50’s new button mapping feature has appeared online.

Update 7:03 p.m.: This is apparently what the screen looks like after resuming a game from rest mode.

Update 9:15 p.m.: The full list of changes for the 2.50 beta is out, thanks to Wario64. Get that below.

Trophies

  • You an now delete trophies with 0% achievement progress.
  • [Earned Date], [Not Earned], and [Grade] have been added as sorting options for trophies. You can also sort by [Earned Date] and [Not Earned] options when comparing trophies with other players.
  • You can now search the Internet for details about trophies from the options menu in [Trophies].
  • Screenshots of scenes when you earn trophies are now saved automatically. You can view saved screenshots in [Capture Gallery].
  • You can now share trophy details and screenshots. Select the trophy you want to share details about in [Trophy], and then press the Share button.
Share Play

  • You can now test the host’s connection speed when starting Share Play.
  • You can now enjoy Share Play at 60 fps. A host in a party can adjust the setting in [Party Settings] > [Video Quality for Share Play] > [Frame Rate].
  • A user who is running version 2.50 or earlier on their system cannot use Share Play with someone who is running version 2.50 beta on their system. Users who are both running system software version 2.50 beta can enjoy Share Play.
Other

  • Users who are your Facebook friends can now be displayed in [Players You May Know].
  • You can now send real name requests in addition to Friend requests to users who are currently not on your Friends list.
  • You can now apply a shadow style for text in [Themes].
  • You can now enter up to 140 characters for your self-introduction.
  • If you enter 22 characters or more for your self-introduction, only 21 characters will be displayed on a PS4 system running system software version earlier than 2.50.
  • You can now use the touch pad to operate playback of videos on discs.
  • [Discover] has been added to introduce users to PS4 system features. You can view information about features in [Notifications] > [Discover].
  • Remote Play cannot be used with a PS Vita system running version 3.35. A system software update for the PS Vita (to be released later) is required.

Oh, wow they actually implemented the delete trophies with 0% feature. I'm sure that'll make some pretty happy.

Aww man no custom backgrounds.

yeah and no video playback from USB either. :(

all those other features are nice, but why can't they add the relatively simple stuff that the PS3 could already do?

I want five things, and only four things.

1. External drive support. How is it that the Xbone and the Wii U has this, but the PS4 doesn't? Seriously, the Wii U, the console that won't let you play a ****ing DVD. That's just weird.

2. USB playback. That seems like a no brainer.

3. Local emulation of PS1 and PS2 games. I know, that will never happen, but I would really enjoy that.

4. A way to easily turn the volume of the headphone jack up and down (as opposed to having to stop everything you're doing, and go into settings).

5. Being able to turn the light off on the DS4.

Four of those five things really isn't asking much. I think.

well. there's always the next update...........:o

I like being able to delete 0% trophies and nice improvements for Share Play. The rest is just alright though and was hoping for a pin feature like on XBox 360&One

Screen shoots being saved of when you got a trophy is pretty cool thing.

I would have to remember to check my gallery often and delete those

I think it's pretty obvious at this point that Sony really doesn't have a huge amount of interest in making the PS4 an all-in-media machine. I mean, I'm sure they'll get there eventually, but they are treating the PS4 first and foremost as a gaming machine.

The lack of a remote is strange though. As a major producer of blu-rays and movies, and a company that already makes remotes... that just seems like a no brainer.

that still boggles my mind. Im still using my PS3 to watch movies bc of this

Maybe the remote for PS3 just didn't sell well so they just didn't bother? I know it never occurred to me or anyone I know with a PS3 to ever get one.

I highly doubt that. They released 2 models of it and I doubt they would have done that had the original not sold. Plus, its not like a Move controller, which takes alot of time and resources to research and develop. Its an accessory that maps the buttons in a different form factor and adds new ones exclusive to blu-ray functionality. Im not a developer, but it doesnt seem like something thats labor intensive

I will say I would mostly use the DS4 anyway since, I like having the headphone option.

I hope if they do make a remote that it will include an audio jack like the Roku remote.

for the trophy updates: are those things that the 360/xbone have already had in their achievement system?

also, so we know dishonored will be one of the psplus games for next month, when do they usually make the announcement?

damn. I actually wanted try dishonored out back in the day. it's too bad there's no more damn space on my hard drive.

and in the grander scheme of things, that's what is most important.

it may sound crazy, but getting a game like Street Fighter V as a PS4 exclusive has gone a long ways towards convincing me to stick with the PS4 and not jump ship to the X1.

besides, I just discovered that my Blu-Ray player has a USB slot so I can play my media files through that. so that lessens my need to have those features on the PS4 ( still would be nice though ).

I thought you're planning to get an xbone either way, just waiting for the right time you see fit

If you have a PS4, buying a Xbone is just superfluous at this point. Unless you have a hankering to play a broken Halo collection.

Maybe in 2 years, when it has accumulated some good exclusives. But right now... there's a reason it's perpetually on sale.

agreed. unless you don't want to miss out on any exclusives.

btw... i'm pretty sure that this 'sale' is its the permanent price now.

It's complicated. 399.99 is technically MSRP, but it seems that Microsoft has given all major retailers a memo telling them to set it at 349.99. Target, Best Buy and Amazon for example, officially list it on sale at 349.99. Well, 347.00 in Amazon's case.

yeah. that's what I feel, too. and why I feel now is not the right time to get an X1.

perhaps they want people to think it is temporary to entice more potential purchases coz I don't believe for a second that it is temporary.
