The Official Punisher 2 Casting Thread

After watching Running Scared I thought he was the only choice for Jigsaw. But I think it would have been more fun to see Johnny Messner against Tom Jane. I can't really picture him fighting Ray Stevenson.
Dude you know what would be realy cool
Ray Stevenson as Jigsaw And Tom jan as the punisher.Clean fight right there.

I too can imagine JANE and MESSNER sharing a more intriquing chemistry, but MESSNER would still make a great BILLY RUSSO/JIGSAW in my opinion.

MESSNER also looks like the type of brute Castle usually goes up against and can capture JIGSAW's personality better than any other actor I've seen. Considering that in his first comic appearence, JIGSAW mentions training to be on Castle's level, I would prefer JIGSAW be played by someone you actually believe can be a credible threat to the Punisher.

If WAR ZONE turns RUSSO into some CAVELLA-like pipsqueak, they will have missed out on a potentially great "war games" type of plot between Castle and Jigsaw. It would also be a slap in the face to the character.

Wow the more things change the more they stay the same. Before we only had Jane as the only one cast in this movie and now only Ray is the only one cast. They need to pick an actor who can nail the part of Jigsaw but at the same time be a current box office draw (unlike Travolta who was box office poison around the time he was in The Punisher), which could be the reason it's taking longer to cast the villain in War Zone. You don't need a box office draw actor to play the villain when your an A-list comic book hero like Batman or Spider-Man. Are all the actors that have agreed to play a part in this not allowed to talk about their involvement? Chuck said he wanted the part of playing Jigsaw's crazy brother, but I haven't read any where that he got the part. Yeah, I'm impatient so what (details dammit)!:ninja:

I hate the idea of hiring an actor to play Jigsaw who is tons more famous than the lead. Travolta wasn't what kept people away in the theatres though. You can blame that on the generic, B-movie, non-descript (nothing special) '04 movie trailer. It was the kind of trailer you look at knowing it won't be worth paying to see in the theatre and figure you'll just catch it on DVD. That's why most people did.

Besides, considering the lackluster "success" of '04, I think LIONSGATE is just hoping to make decent enough revenue from a relatively small investment (low film budget). I don't think they're ******ed enough to be expecting SPIDERMAN like returns. I don't think potential box office numbers should have any effect on the casting.

Yeah the fact that Ray is 6'4 will kind limit who they could cast as Jigsaw. It would look really lame for Ray to go up against a much smaller actor. He might be a little old but I wonder if Thomas Ian Griffith might be a possibility for Jigsaw.

I think it's pretty believable that someone who is 6 foot (MESSNER) could be a threat to someone at 6'4 (STEVENSON). Especially if he's as well built, wild and energetic as Jigsaw.

Griffith does look much too old and doesn't look a thing like Russo. The dye job on his grey hair would stand out more than Jane's. I also like the idea of Castle being an old guy, but still more than able to keep up with younger guys like MESSNER.

Alright, I guess Messner still is the best choice for Jigsaw. I REALLY want to see someone do some kick ass manips of him though.

CALLING ALL PHOTOSHOP ARTISTS!

David Puddy????? Where do some people come up with their casting ideas????

They will probably do another similar thing that they did with Travolta for this movie. Nobody really knows who the hell Ray Stevenson is, regardless of Rome's popularity.

Not to mention, none of the original cast is back for the sequel, which really hurts it. They will most likely cast a big name (as big as they can) for Jigsaw.

Hensleigh mentioned Travolta's salary as being one of the big strains on the budget. I don't think they're dumb enough to go that route again. The Punisher is an icon. DVD sales show that people are still interested in him, but you're only going to get them in the theatre with a trailer that does him justice.

What're they gonna do then?

Seriously...when the trailer hits and Ray Stevenson is the headliner, people will say "Who the hell is that?" The first movie was already not a huge financial success, so it's not like it's gonna have a huge draw just because it's The Punisher. They'll need a semi-decent star for the villain, guaranteed.

Lionsgate has also said they're now making a larger % of higher budget films compared to prior years.

That's because they're one of the smartes distributers in the last few years. They put out tons of quality (usually) lower-than-colossal budget movies that usually have a decent turnaround.

Has anyone else seen the front page of SHH yet? It looks like Ray Stevenson's costar of Rome, Kevin McKidd is being considered for a role in the upcoming Thor movie.

Maybe all the talent on Rome really caught Marvel's attention.

Or maybe Lexi Alexander is smart enough to realize how iconic and eye catching the comic skull is. Fingers crossed.

IT's from a conference call I posted those same quotes yesterday in the Marvel Forums under THor casting.

I don't mind Mircochip, so long as he's grounded and a non "tech nerd" movie cliche. Similar to Roth for O'Brien in UP IS DOWN.

In fact, I like that he's included.

Casting details anyone? Filming supposedly starts at the end of the month in Canada and Ray is the only one cast so far, WTF? Hey Advanced any info, rumors, or anything leaked yet on who else is in this flick? Don't be holding out on us man!:oldrazz:
