Comics The Official ROGUE Discussion Thread

I have always hoped that Rogue would be able to control her main absorption power so she could make skin contact without harm. Yes, Mystique has her purpose. I just hope she does some good. Yeah, Rogue knows what she's doing.

What I think is awesome is that Rogue loses Gambit and instead of wallowing in self-pity, she instead takes charge of a team, with formidable villians, and is kicking some major tush. From what I heard, Rogue was seriously depressed after she left Remy in Antarctica, and could barely do much. But this time, she has an incredible amount of confidence and won't let anything get in her way. Not even that Pan problem. You go girl!:woot:

Rogue can never control her main power- it would take away from her central character dilemma. I like the fact she's kicking tush whether thats her trying to get over gambit and throw herself into work remains to be seen.

The whole plot idea of her not being able to touch people without harm has been done to death. It's about time the writers solved this problem for her and dealt with the other dilemnas she has. Rogue needs a new gimmick.:yay:

I loved Rogue for over 12 years, and right now, we have the best Rogue I have seen in a looooong time.

I wouldn't be happy if Rogue could control her powers, it would take away so much of what makes Rogue awesome. She is incredibly tragic, it basically defines her. I would however love if she could control the powers she absorbs better or perhaps control what she absorbs (like just a persons powers or just the memories, ofcourse the coma effect would remain). Just please don't make her powers go out of control, its been done.

I would like Rogue to be rid of Sunfires powers, I understand why they gave them to her, but they don't fit her. She does need the strength and flight back somehow, she is awesome as a powerhouse. Her absorbing powers are great but IMO can't be her main source of attack (that would work if she was a villian).

I think Carey is doing an amazing job and I think he will give us a great Rogue and I hope no one is disapointed. A lot of people are *****in' that Rogue is overexposed right now. Well, honestly, we went through over a year of Milligan destroying Rogue and making her a whiney baby, so I think a few arc with Rogue in the limelight is ok, Carey is re-building what so many writers destroyed.

BTW, I just ordered the Rogue Marvel Collectible Figurines, the book is so nice and the figure is cute. I actually have an extra figure, bc I was impatient and ordered one off e-bay. If anyone is interested, send me a PM.

It makes sence for Rogue to try to keep herself busy so that she doesn't dwell on Gambit's situation. She doesn't seem to be very happy in the books right now. Have we seen her smile once since Gambit left?

Hi Spark. I don't mind Rogue being in the spotlight at all. It's about time. And yes, I liked it better when she had the Ms. Marvel powers. Certainly, the cost of her powers is a big part of her character, but I love her so much and it always broke my heart that she was unable to touch people without harm. I read in a fan fic about Rogue having a power inhibitor bracelet so she could touch people without harm when she chose to. Pretty cool idea.

I glanced through the TPB's from the Milligan tenure and he certainly did her portray her as whiny, jealous and crazy (and he really messed up Gambit too, with the Horseman plot, and also their relationship.)

Thanks for starting the thread.:yay:

no I dont think so. She is too hard and cold. I wish she'd lighten up a bit. Id love it if Bobby and Sam could cheer her up abit. She has history with them and they are a comedic duo Hoepfully they can crack that tough exterior she has

I certainly hope Sam and Bobby can cheer her up. With her true love gone for now, one of her dear friends dead, and her best friend, Storm, not there, she has lost a lot of support. Rogue is very much alone right now. In the past I have seen Rogue be sweet, vulnerable, and flirtatious. She isn't generally cold. I guess for now she's lost her joy.:csad:

Im drawing a blank right now. Who's the dead friend?

More times than they can count. It's an ongoing plot. It's like, this week let's kill Jean again. And now, back to Rogue. Mah poor sugah gal.

oh I would hardly call Rogue and Jean dear friends. They were more like aquantainces (sp)

The X-Men should have helped Rogue controlling her mutant powers long ago. Being able to recall past powers was cool, but now she should get something like DC's H-Dial. She can just call up the genetic code of superhumans and her powers will interepret the information like she was touching them.

Yeah, Havok, Jean and Rogue are really acquantances, but kinda part of the same family. Her best friend is Storm and Iceman's kinda a close friend. I didn't read the comic book long enough to know a lot of things, but I just got back into it. So between research and looking at recent comics, I might get some things straight.

That's a cool idea, Rogue being able to touch people that way without causing harm.

i think rogue's too insular to have a BEST friend- the nearest thing is iceman but that hasn't been shown in a while.

were Rogue and Storm really all that close either?

Yeah Storm is the x-woman Rogue has been near the most. It was the same way in 90's cartoon. I think Rogue has always stuck near Storm b/c they both fly and they were outlaws in childhood. Rogue was with the BOEM and Storm was a theif. It's like they can relate to each other and that's why I've always loved seeing them together as the flying duo. I totally miss them not being on the same x-men team.:csad: The last time they were shown flying together was in Black Panther #9.

If Rogue can't be given control of her main absorbing power than she should be given a device to turn off that power. What is so hard about that?

its too convenient, bc really Forge would have helped her out ages ago in that department

The only character that consistenly stayed close with Rogue over the years was...

Wait for it.

Wait for it.

Wait for it.

Gambit. Duh.

because he wanted the sugah - duh!

ok that was facetious and there was no need for it- i apologise:O

Pfff...exams hold me out of any kind of boards

So, about Rogue and Gambit, i would like to post some lines that the two of them exchanged during Milligan's run. I find it really really pathetic the way Milligan writes both of them, and wonder what is worse written in here, the Alex-Polaris-Bobby thing or their relatonship? Seems like watching a soap opera with action scenes... Bleah!

First harsh words come out from Gambit's mouth in Golgotha arc, during insanity in issue #169, where we also have the kiss between Rogue and Wolverine.

(1) In issue #170 they make up. Here's the dialogue in page 9 that ends with them kissing each other seperated by space helmets.

(2) After the crap that occurs in issues 171-183{Foxx story which they manage to sort deal with, telepath sessions with Emma to try touch each other physically, sentinels in the mansion where Rogue sits with him in the infirmary, etc}, we come to issue where we see Gambit transformation to Horseman and if we carefully read the lines Gambit doesn't betray the X-Men. He insists on no taking painkillers in order to see what Apocalypse will do to him, claims to love the X-Men and wants to be there to stop Apocalypse if he acts as he does... But as Apocalypse himself says,"The creature that emerges from that machine will no longer be the one that entered."[/COLOR]

What I mean is that even trying to read between the lines, there is no betrayal, and it is quite clear that Death is not Gambit in terms of personality. He has transformed to something else. So the one trying to kill Rogue IS NOT Gambit.Simple.

I like the fact that Rogue keeps faith in him. It means she knows him like no other X-Man does. It implies true deep feelings. It is trust and love. It is human. It is not pathetic. Some people can love more easily than others, and all along the years Rogue has shown that she doesn't easily share bonds with other people. Same with Remy.

My conclusion to this: There is nothing pathetic in Rogue having faith to Remy and trying to save him. I blame the X-Men for trying to save Sunfire and Polaris but NOT Gambit. After all, how many actual days have passed since the BoA story in the X-Men timeline? It would be stupid if Rogue forgot about Remy in few days, it would not make sense, just like it doesn't make sense to me Bobby not talking anymore about Lorna, who he claimed to love so much. So i do not consider it pathetic Rogue to love him and why not keep on loving him. And why do we need all couples in X-men history to be seperated (ie Cyclops- Jean, Angel-Psylocke, Havok-Polaris, Shadowcat-Colossus, etc)? Let some stay together. Seperation may happen in real life, but having someone as companion even forever happens as well.

And of course I do agree with all those who believe that it is up to the writer to make a character pathetic or not. Milligan made all of them pathetic, Carey revived them and i have faith in him writing a descent Gambit.

By the way, where is Storm to support them..? I don't really want her with Black Panther.

@JeanGrey, why did you have to upload one of the most disrespectful and selfish things Marvel has ever done?! Milligan is not the only one to blame for those sucky arcs he wrote. Joe Quesada is responsible for all this dumb BS Marvel has done during the last five years.:cmad: I agree with the hundreds of SHH users and Marvel readers who think he should be fired. The 2000's has been the worst decade for Marvel comics b/c of him.

Relax Mistopurr83, i just added the pics so that anyone that reads my post understands better my argument.

As if they weren't posted again before...
