Apocalypse The Official Sophie Turner/Jean Grey Thread - Part 2

I haven't articulated yet how much I loved Sophie Turner's portrayal of Jean Grey.

I loved how stoic, strong and self-determined she came across. Afraid to use her powers and hurt someone but at the same time in control.

Definitely my favorite female comic book character film adaptations ever! :ilv: "X-Men: Apocalypse" really solved her arc from all previous movies beautifully! Jean is now the most interestingly developed chacter of the entire movie franchise for me. From being a victim of Xavier's manipulation to a self-determined powerful young woman!

Actually kind of brilliant how subtle her arc developed throughout the entire franchise in 16 years (Wolverine is changing the demise of the women he loves in "Days of Future Past" when he gives Xavier his memories from the future and we see the consequence of that in "X-Men: Apocalpyse"!)

Kudos to you, Bryan Singer!

...

wished they would have done the same with Storm!

i really enjoyed her as jean grey she started as a bit aloof but as the film went along she took charge, was more confident and became a leader

the Phoenix scene was amazing

Yeah, she's great. She projected the right level of confidence, power, doubt, fear and gentleness. Very much like in the comicbooks.

I loved Sophie as young Jean.
When she had her Phoenix moment I was all

I don't think it is a problem to re-adapt the Dark Phoenix Saga again. The actual cosmic comic story is a lot different from X3 and don't forget Jean was the Phoenix a long time before the Dark Phoenix Saga even started. They could to the Phoenix Saga first.

I think in general they need more time to develop the relationship between Jean and Scott first before they are going into space and doing the whole Phoenix stuff.

I would love to see an older version of Emma Frost slowly manipulating Jean Grey to become the Phoenix. Maybe Xavier could bring her in as a support-teacher to train Jean Grey and he oversees how Emma slowly turns Jean Grey against him and how she tries to manipulate Jean for her own agenda. How Emma tries to break apart the relationship between Xavier and Jean could be a great character arc. I would love to see an actress like Michelle Pfeifer or Sigourney Weaver portrait Emma as her sexy manipulative self etc.

but I think that Jean's suicide is very much essential to the story and Jean needs to kill herself in the end to save the universe...if done right it will be glorious! X3 showed easily how this whole story can also quickly become quite misogynistic.

And let's be honest Jean is one of the view mutants who had her fair share of development in the series.

No. She is still stunning and your troll-like behavior is pathetic.

"Stunning" is subjective.

I stated her age and a current photo, nothing more -that's factual, NOT trolling. Your attempt to classify it so from your goddess worship idolization of Famke is what's pathetic here.

Denial is not a river in Egypt. Age catches up with the best of us, and she's too old to play Jean anymore.

Totally random but I've kind of felt Famke has gotten progressively less attractive over the years. Saw her in a Lifetime movie about a month ago or so where she was noticeably skinnier than in DOFP.

But yeah, all of the original actors are too old for their roles, what DOFP provided was honestly the best way to rectify that. And now we have Sophie Turner. :D

Eh she looks good for her age, why do you feel the need to criticize her *looks* in a Sophie Turner thread? because you want your Jean young and fresh? I don't get this argument of the original cast being too old.... when a lot of the MCU actors are as old as them or older than them. Looking at the actor playing Iron Man, Ant-Man, Nick Fury, Vision, Black Panther, Hulk to name a few...

I agree with most of the posts here regarding Jean and Sophie. Honestly though, I wasn't overly thrilled with the casting choice but I wanted to wait until I saw the movie to judge it. Glad I did and omg, I can't get that part out of my mind and I really want to see it again but I'll have to wait til it comes out on blu-rey. lol. The part towards the battle in Egypt was awesome. It was a long time coming to see Jean's Phoenix...finally she did something and it was beautiful! They weren't holding back. I could tell so I am eager to see what Sophie can do more with Jean and Phoenix. :)

It's called an opinion. I said Famke is too thin now for my tastes. Stop being so dramatic.

I actually saw Famke at a comic con convention in April. I paid $65 for a picture with her and she was sitting down, awkwardly leaning away, and I was told 3 separate times not to touch her. And she had 4 security guards around her.

My first thought when I saw her was that I wondered if she was seriously ill because of how skinny she looked.

K let's keep this thread on topic.

So Sophie eh? I only know her from GoT...how old is she again?

Um, you have memory problems. You called her Grandma too which was rude. Don't be jealous because you will never reach Famke level of Goddess-ness. And she could still play Jean if the opportunity ever came up btw.
Anyway, protecting myself from your bulls*it now.

I saw some of the pictures from that con. They look a little awkward but I understand Famke's perspective. I wouldn't really want to touch a bunch of strangers. Did you get to talk at all?

Both Sophie and Famke did a great job but I will say that Sophie to me felt more like the Jean I saw in the 90's animated series.

^I feel the same and I was stalkerishly obsessed with Famke for the longest time. Sophie became the character to me.

^^ Yes they BOTH did a wonderful job. Although I am the opposite, I preferred Famke more than Sophie. But then again it has only been one film for Sophie so who knows. It could change for me.

It's a shame that some others can't appreciate them both instead of saying one was a 'Good Jean' and the other was a 'Bad Jean'. smh

Not sure which actress I prefer actually. Sophie certainly did a better job than I had expected. Coming from one of my least favorite GoT roles into probably my favorite X-Men character other than Magneto.

I actually love Sophie on Game of Thrones, but she didn't do much for me here. Her part was pretty weakly written and the Phoenix bit at the end just seemed desperate.

I loved how Famke played Jean, they just screwed up TLS. I really wish Singer had been able to finish writing her role for that film.

Nope. And she's one of the only ones who had that problem. Famous people go to comic con all the time and the majority of them don't have a no touching rule. It makes you feel like a creep and I wish I was told about that rule because then I wouldn't have wasted $65. Stan Lee let people hug him and he could have caught his death from any one of us. The guy is ancient.

How old is Sophie? I agree (again) about Sophie's Jean being a character. It's just too bad that perhaps the original X-Men films could have been almost similar in a way to the likes of First Class and Apocalypse. I really like those two more but eh, DOFP, I'll have to give that one a watch. Maybe once Apocalypse comes out on Blu-Ray. I am glad we got to see the Phoenix Force in all its glory so I am hoping we haven't seen the last of Jean's Phoenix. I was all giddy during the battle and omg...the moment she started walking on air...I had a feeling something big was going to blow me out of the water! It was awesome. I for one didn't think we see the astral plane. but omg, that was awesome too!

I actually didn't see a huge different between how the two played Jean.

Turner's Jean is refreshing because she got to develop relationships with people not named Wolverine.

Famke has got older, thats all it is, she has noticeably got older compared to X1, she is still attractive but i assume like alot of actresses she wants to keep their looks so they will push to be more skinnier and youthful which is pretty much hollywood for ya.

This more than anything else. I really enjoyed seeing the new team come together.

I loved Sophie as young Jean.

Yeah, as soon as she started walking on air then you knew **** was going to go dooown.

I thought they were a bit different especially X1 Jean, Jean there was quite tamed and didn't really want to use her telepathy that much. Though X3 Jean to DOFP Jean were different from X1 Jean and I guess X2, which were more like Famke, more confident and fabulous.

Sophie's Jean is way more confident!

Famke's Jean had trouble with Toad. Apocalypse Jean would have wiped the floor with him.

Scott said to Jean in X2 that she has to concentrate to levitate a book or a chair across the room. Apocalypse Jean rebuilt a freaking mansion.

Apocalypse Jean > OT Jean. And way cooler.
