Apocalypse Young Cyclops/Jean/Storm? Casting Ideas - Part 2

I think Oscar Isaac said it best:

"Ultimately, it's about making something compelling and interesting to watch. I think being faithful to certain characters from the comics is very important, but it's a different medium. I think, ultimately, you want to make a great movie. That's the most important part, and then finding, if not the exact details, the soul of the characters, of the stories, of what the whole thing was. Those aspects, even if you're moving certain things around and maybe not being true to this particular storyline and adding this new thing, I think those are much more important. The experience of it will be much more compelling in the end."

I know it's way way way to early to judge, but my heart sank a little when I read these choices. The only one I'm even remotely ok with is Tye... but I guess something in their auditions made them stand out. (Side note: I really hope Storm isn't completely Americanized in this movie.)

But we still have the four horsemen to be excited about!

You don't know what roles any of them will have in this.

And DOFP was anything but mediocre. :o

Development and decent roles? Um its been 15 years and Cyclops, Storm and Jean is still mysterious and with no backstory. I dont expect much to change. Their is a reason the x films have a ceiling. Everything is so repetitious with this franchise. Their have just been too many films where the core xmen are no more developed then 2nd and 3rd rate xmen like Thunderbird or Blink.

DOFP was a mediocre xmen film. Now from a movie stand point it was a very entertaining summer blockbuster but it wasn't a good xmen film.

Yeah, possibly. With so much focus on "the big 3," everyone's been overlooking the Brotherhood side of things.

We're also overlooking Nightcrawler. We still don't know which actor Bryan Singer will cast as Nightcrawler and we also don't know if Mr. Sinister will appear in this film. If Sinister is to appear in future films, this movie will have to show Apocalypse creating Mr. Sinister.

Honestly, they all look the character, the real issue is their chemistry.
Now, i want Wanda, Nightcrawler and maybe Cable ( good way to introduce X Force).

I thought she started weak (or maybe just unlikable) but got much better later. She was quite good in this last season - actually pretty subtle and nuanced.

She wasn't bad. Perhaps as you said, it was her being unlikeable and the delivery of this line.

And the defending of Joffery :argh:

But, still. She was younger then.
During the last couple of episodes she was starting to pick up on her performance, especially with the Ned scenes. I guess I'll have to jump onto Season 2 now :D

Kinberg said the First Class trilogy was always meant to center on Erik and Charles vying for the soul of their beloved Raven. Those three have the strongest character arcs; and X-Men Apocalypse is the conclusion of their story.

Purists might as well sit this one out,
but they won't. :cwink:

yes but the issue with that is you can't introduce these 3 characters at their most undeveloped and not develop them

what i suspect gonna happen is eric and charles may take more father/leader roles to whatever other characters are added to the movie, obviously that doesn't mean they won't get big roles and development but it does allow for development for other characters next to it

So true. DoFP is my favorite comic book film. I'm not expecting Apocalypse to equal or surpass it, but I'll be very happy if it does. I just want a nice conclusion to the trilogy. Beyond that, I don't know.

Yeah, I keep having to remind myself that Apocalypse will be set in the 80's when I was actually reading X-Men comics as a youngster, so quite possibly my favourite X-men era. The possibilities of outfits, characters and style from that time are mind boggling to me.

And agreed on DOFP, how anyone can think it was a mediocre X-men film is beyond my comprehension, guess you cant please everyone, so topping it will be hard for me but anything close will be enjoyable no doubt.

It's an ensemble film, which means that both primary and certain secondary characters will have ample screen time and importance. So, yes, we're likely to see some solid character development with regards to the new cast members. I was just explaining that, as per Simon Kinberg, the heart of the trilogy which encompasses FC, DoFP and the yet-to-be-released XM: Apoc is centered on the relationship between Charles, Raven and Erik (his words, not mine). So, when fans argue that Fox should "give these guys a break already", well .. that just isn't happening -- at least not until the conclusion of said trilogy.

I think some people don't realize that you have to adhere to certain rules when writing a script for a motion picture. You can't have 10 different cast members with equally prominent character arcs in the same movie -- a movie that runs a little over two hours; it just doesn't work that way. As a writer on a comic-to-film adaptation, there's a whole wealth of information at your disposal; you just have to decide what works best in the story you're trying to tell. If you try to force too much into your script, though, it'll only end up looking like a disjointed video game.

everyone was saying they wanted them to announce casting and now they complain.

I am sorry calling DOFP a medicore X-men film:whatever: it was true to spirit of original story.

DOFP was not just all about wolverine.he was to connect 1973 and 2023 and guide the others.DOFP was very much a xavier centric story.

Saying cyclops and jean are no better devolped than warpath and sunspot?
That's just being a blind fox basher. Those 2 barely talked in DOFP.you can't even compare them to cyclops and Jean.

We don't know what we want.

Boo these casting choices.. booooo
no but seriously, who the f are these kids?? Shoulda gone for people just a tad older, teenagers are painful to watch act

I confess I would've liked to see some X-Men in their early 20s taking on Apocalypse, but is what it is. We'll see how they do.

Clearly you haven't watched Turner in Game of Thrones or Sheridan in Mud or Joe....

You do know that's your opinion right? As in not fact.

Kids and teens can be great, compelling characters, but I generally don't enjoy superhero comics/movies that have teen rosters. The 616 X-Men were never portrayed as a whole team of teens. When they started out, only Iceman was that young while the rest were portrayed as young adults... I kinda wish this movie was skewing a bit older. It was the New Mutants who took the role of the teen team.

(I do know that the cast are all over 18, but they look like they're going for a 16-18 year-old look.)

Iceman was the youngest, but they did start out as teens. In the early issues they were called "the most unusual teen-agers of all time."

Yeah they definetry started out as teens. Just ones with a bit of maturity. Kid needs to check his history.

You are completely wrong. Iceman was youngest at 15 and Beast was eldest at 18
