Apocalypse The Official Sophie Turner/Jean Grey Thread - Part 2

Vaughn let Fassy be Irish in FC, then he studied tapes of McKellen for DOFP, and then combined the two in Apocalypse, so yeah, as long as Sophie makes the attempt I'm sure it'll be fine.

She probably will. Her accent slippage is a big part of the reason why the RT score is so low.

LOL seriously, I actually don't care if their accent sounds bad or real as long as the movie is good.

Yeah but critics cared. She'll probably practice a bit more in the time between XMA and the sequel. She was otherwise good in the role and I DO want to see more of her as Jean.

I just feel like McFee and Shipp pulled off more consistent accents in this film compared to Turner.

Xavier was yelling at her in her mind, he was dying and simply told her to let go don't hold back that's not demanding it's more like he was telling her to embrace that power and not to fight so it's actually the opposite
.

Her accent had nothing to do with the score what an absurd thing to say, she does have a slightly deeper voice and people may have thought her accent was slipping but her voice isn't high it's rather low in general so she sounded fine to me.

Can you just stop your totally unfounded doom and gloom?

The Phoenix moment was great but way too soon IMO. On a shallow note, I hate that it happened while she had that awful hairstyle with it pulled back. She should have had her hair out and flowing

I was excited to see what your reaction was haha

But yeah as a lifelong Jean Grey fan I was completely in awe of Sophie. She nailed it.

[blackout] and the one phoenix scene was better than all of x3 lol [/blackout]

Yeah it feels like straight from the comics scenes. I kept watchingthat scene on youtube. :P

So the Pheonix is more powerful than Apocolypse?

In the comics?

Well, the Phoenix Force is basically a cosmic entity. When Rachel Summers was its avatar, she was able to defeat a malnourished Galactus and even rival the power of The Beyonder. So, yeah, it's safe to say that Phoenix is on another level entirely.

In the comics, Apocalypse isnt all that powerful, so yes even in the books, Phoenix trumps him. I think the cartoons and now this film have built him up to be bigger than he actually is

She was great! I am very upset at fox for spoiling the big moment with that tv spot. And yes that hair should have been flowing. I felt like Jean may have knowingly had a block on her powers but one that was done by herself rather than Xavier which is why he had to beg her to stop being afraid and unleash her full powers.

I had my doubts about Sophie, and she still isn't my preferred choice for the role.

but I enjoyed her as Jean and I especially liked her power display at the end.

I only heard her accent slip once when she spoke to [BLACKOUT]Wolverine[/BLACKOUT] telepathically.

I cared about her accent slips about as much as I cared about Fassbender's Irish accent slipping out in FC. That is, not at all. She (like he) was great regardless.

Everyone is understandably talking about the Phoenix moment but did anyone else REALLY enjoy her introductory scene? When Scott bumps into her and she drops her books and then telekinetically brings them back into her hands in slo-mo. That scene was beautifully shot and was a neat use of her powers. I really enjoy the little moments where characters use their powers for everyday things.

that was cool.

As much as I thought she did well in this film, I almost wish they had gone with an unknown bc I couldnt help but see Sansa Stark from beginning to end. She never felt like just Jean to me

This was one of my favorite parts. It was a great comic book spin on a cliche.

I also loved Scott's "I don't need a creepy girl poking around in my brain" line. Or however it went, and Jean's comeback.

It wasn't as forced as making them dislike each other, but they sort of got off on the wrong foot.

I didn't get that but maybe it's because I don't watch the show like that. I feel like there are two different characters and I didn't see anything similar between them. Sophie felt like Jean to me in this film

Yeah, probably my favorite scene of hers in the film actually!

I also really liked her walking off the ledge and then levitating/walking on the air. It made for quite a unique visual.

agreed.
