Apocalypse The Official Sophie Turner/Jean Grey Thread - Part 2

Power levels were different, probably a combination of no mental blocks and this movie being made in 2016 rather than 2000. But there wasn't that much different about the actresses' depictions. Both Jeans were fairly sedate, slightly sassy, concerned about nightmares, and hesitant to unleash powers.

I didn't get much sass from OT Jean. Apocalypse Jean was way better.

Um, you have memory problems. You called her Grandma too which was rude. Don't be jealous because you will never reach Famke level of Goddess-ness. And she could still play Jean if the opportunity ever came up btw.
Anyway, protecting myself from your bulls*it now.

:funny:

She IS the age of a typical grandmother now -that's a fact, it's not rude or an insult --except maybe to those who regard her as some kind of immortal goddess! lol

Famke was really something in her heydey but age has caught up with her to the point that she's been trying to fight it with botox, facial fillers, plenty of makeup and hairdye.

She could play a much older Jean perhaps if a story called for it, not a Jean in her 20's or 30s.

I think Sophie's got the job for now, and even if they decide to reboot into modern times, I think Sophie would still get it.

Famke has got older, thats all it is, she has noticeably got older compared to X1, she is still attractive but i assume like alot of actresses she wants to keep their looks so they will push to be more skinnier and youthful which is pretty much hollywood for ya.

She was 35 in X1 playing a role about ten years younger. That works up to a certain point, but her window passed.

Most comic book characters have an age frame. The X-Men began as teens ("The Strangest Teens of All!") and progressed slowly through their 20s to maybe their early 30s and tend to remain there. The Jean Grey role calls for someone in the more youthful age group.

There's no indication that X1 Jean was supposed to be in her 20s. Indeed, she was a medical doctor, which takes a good while. Plus, Janssen's age lines up with Halle Berry's. They were meant to be in their 30s.

One can get an M.D. in 8 years, more years beyond that in residency programs if one intends to practice (I don't think she had that), and she could very well be a prodigy who was on an accelerated academic schedule as well. I think she's in her mid to late 20s at the outset of the series, early 30s in X3. The young Jean of "20 years ago" was played by a 13 yr old Haley Ramm.

Nope. And she's one of the only ones who had that problem. Famous people go to comic con all the time and the majority of them don't have a no touching rule. It makes you feel like a creep and I wish I was told about that rule because then I wouldn't have wasted $65. Stan Lee let people hug him and he could have caught his death from any one of us. The guy is ancient.

Aw, I am sorry you were disappointed. She has really strong boundaries. But think of it this way, when you go to a museum you're not allowed to touch the wonderful art. The same rules apply here I guess.

Everyday is a heyday for Famke Janssen!! Queen of all actresses!!

Famke was boring in the role. I like this Jean alot more, but she could've used more screentime. And I gotta say, Sophie's accent was really weak.

Just got out from my second viewing and Jean just truly amazes. My mother actually cried when jean unleashed her power never seen her do that from a comic book movie. She's been watching these movies with me since the first back in 2000 and Jean is probably her favorite character.

See if the direction of the original films weren't so constricting with the source material, just maybe the actors would have had a lot to sink their teeth into. And just maybe, Famke's Jean would have been not so boring at first. Sure in the first one she was sort of weak...but by X2, which is my fave Xfilm next to Apocalypse, she seemed to grow stronger as the events began to unfold. X3, .... yeah I don't want to get into that cause they made her more psychotic, which is something I would have toned down a bit. I still think if X3 was made better, we would have had a proper Dark Phoenix story with Famke's Jean/Phoenix but oh well. What I've seen of Sophie, I am liking it. It's a start...a start of something fresh, something new...and I am glad she finally got to do something this time around! So Kudos to her. I am looking forward to seeing what she'll do next...I am hoping they'll wait a few years so both her and Tye can age and mature into their respective roles.

As much as I adore Famke, if you're gonna act like that at a con, you might as well not do photo ops

Okay guys....Can we strict this thread to only to Sophie and Jean?

As much as I will miss the original cast...you know the saying, "Out with the old, in with the new." Same can be applied to the original cast of Star Wars...but that's a whole other franchise. I watched Apocalypse again...gets better with each viewing. I had multiple nerdgasms during the entire climax...oh um lols. I mean battle against Apocalypse. That fire bird...man...and I'm going to probably watch it again. :hrt:

That's pretty cute.

Thats not the only logical way to do it, thats just the lazy X3 way of doing it.
By having her not die? Because that and characters dying in fits of Phoenix rage is how characters died in X3 or being killed by Wolverine, not heroic deaths. Have a very great day you an everyone!

God bless you! God bless everyone!

Awww...so sweet that you both watch xmen together. :) Wish my mom knows jean grey too. All she knows is that i have a huge chunk of toys and comic books of xmen in my room. :woot:

I dunno if anyone has notice from all over the web...to them they think the Phoenix they saw was the dark version. I sure as hell didn't see it that way. There's a difference between the "good" Phoenix and the Dark Phoenix. Piss her off...she'll cause a greater deal of utter destruction with far superior power that even Jean herself may not even be able to control. A few slips is all it takes but thing is as long as Jean can still be able to keep that dark side of Phoenix in check...kudos.

What I saw in this version was Jean letting go of her own fears and tapping into her powers where she was able to not only embrace them but also have a certain level of control when the only being she is purely focused on is Apocalypse. Again...if she lost it...and he was able to get inside her head...she would have destroyed everyone but no. Jean is supposed to be the second most powerful telepathic next to Xavier...with that much power and control in every part of her inner being...not this Jean could let herself kill all those whom she calls family.

Perhaps someday...well. I dunno. Depends on the direction they'll take. Thing is we only saw the Phoenix force...thing is we haven't seen it's true potential to date. Besides it would have been too soon to see the darker version of Phoenix. I'm glad they went with this approach. Mental blocks or not...let's hope that isn't an option for Xavier down the road...let her be free. Let her continue to embrace her powers that is beyond the world's imagination. Let her mature...and grow and utilize what she has learned. No more holding back...no more fear. Unleash it...let go, Jean.

Lol sorry. I feel like I'm high on Phoenix since I can't get that scene out of my head.

We better see Dark Phoenix as a result of Jean being manipulated by villains, rather than just making her evil because she has too much power. I hate that trope.

I for one love the relationship between Jean and Xavier. I like to see more of that, plus with Scott as well. Hopefully...

I agree. Just because we saw the Phoenix force itself...doesn't mean we saw the dark version. The only way for that to happen where Jean loses it is when villains manipulate her by getting to her head like in the comics. The whole too much power thing comes after the fact when the other x-men realize what is actually happening to Jean and when they try to stop her, she just...loses it completely but at the same time, tries to fight it within herself.

This is why I love Jean...her not being all evil but trying to fight that evil within herself. Its a struggle and it happens to good people and sometimes, the bad keeps itching to get out from being locked up away...hidden deep within the place they don't want to go. All it takes is a manipulator or two and...then s*** hits the fan. So here you got Jean, a good person but also someone who struggles to keep her inner darkness in check. This is a woman who would go so far to end her own life in the most impossible way. Thing is...Phoenix isn't just about death itself...its also the symbol of rebirth...She rises from the ashes, born anew but more extraordinary and powerful as ever.

All Jean has to do is to not be afraid of what she's capable of...one inch of a slip from her focus on Apocalypse, he could have gotten inside her head but no. She went all for it because Xavier wanted her to...because he knew her potential. Apocalypse would have wanted to control her if he tried to connect through her mind but Xavier would never have wanted that, even if it were him. I think at this point going forward, and I am hoping this is what they'll go with, there will be none of that mental blocks business in the future.

What I love about Jean and Xavier is how they're so alike to one another. There's that connection between them that I really absolutely love of their relationship.

This is such a minute detail lol but did it bother anyone else how in the last few seconds of the film all the X-Men had their individual shots with Quicky putting on his goggles, Storm's lightning, Nightcrawler growling, Cyclops' visor lighting up.....then Jean just looking around lol

Nope. Maybe if her eyes lit up a little but meh, I'm not complaining. I already had my Phoenix fix from that battle scene

But until the next time we catch up to Jean... :) I can't wait.

I thought it was interesting that she was last instead of Scott to get her close up. Thought that was very telling.

Is there a possibility for that Phoenix force entity like in the comics and that its not part of her mutation?
