The Official Stupid Question Thread: Marvel Edition

Depends on how much detail you want really.

Disassembled is fine on its own, so you're good there.

Secret War is best on its own, though there is a side story that goes on during the Pulse: Secret War trade that's not too bad. You don't need it, but if you want extra reading it isn't bad.

House of M is best on its own, so don't worry about the tie-in trades. They're just extra reading for other characters in the House of M world. The Main trade is all you really need.

The only Decimation trade I recommend is Son of M. It's a great aftermath to House of M with lasting repercussions that are still being felt to this day, but that's it. The others aren't important at all really, though since you are an X-Men fan (as am I) you can read them if you like for the fun of it. But the ending of House of M pretty much covers the Decimation quite well on its own.

The main Civil War mini is also fine on its own. However, if you want some other major storylines that resulted or tied into it that was a huge effect on the Marvel Universe, you may want to get the Captain America tpb dealing with Civil War, and the Fallen Son tpb. The Spider-Man trade is semi-important in places. The rest is just up to if you want to see what the characters were doing during the war.

In addition to those, if you want the core of the Marvel Universe... I suggest the Sentry tpb (The original mini by Jenkins), New Avengers tbp vol. 1-4 or 5 (until Civil War), and maybe Sentry: Reborn tpb as well. That'll lead you up to Civil War, and being that all the events and the core Marvel Universe since 2004 has been New Avengers-centric, those would be good to include.

Thanks a lot for the help JewishHobbit!!

I also plan on getting Secret Invasion, which I believe is the most recent major storyline.

Yea Secret Invasion led up to Dark Reign.

Can someone tell me what happened to Aegis and Tenebraus after Annihilation? You know the elder god's that kicked Galactus' ass.

Also another cosmic based question. Where the hell is the cosmic pantheon!?! I can't be the only one missing some Eternity, Infinity, Chaos and Order, Living Tribunal action? When was the last time they had a "cosmic congress"? Infinity Gauntlet? All these major cosmic events in the last few years and none of them have got involved? What gives?!?! Hopefully they get involved with this new event.

his legs were paralyzed during a battle with Lucifer waaaaay back when. im pretty sure it was in a mountain and there was a cave-in.

Xavier got caught under a falling block type trap and got crunched. Then he got his mind transferred into a cloned body which was intact and was crippled the same way again under circumstances I no longer recall because it was so stupid that I don't want to remember.

They're uncrippled again now. Not sure how it happened this time.

I don't recall how he lost his legs in his battle with Lucifer WAY back before he formed the X-Men... but he got his legs back after a brood had infected him and destroyed his body. His mind was transfered into a cloned body, which obviously didn't have broken leg.

Then later on he was in a battle with the Shadow King and during this battle (and I think his was mental) his legs were shattered again. So he was crippled once more.

Then during a battle with Cassandra Nova, she switched their minds and took over his body. During the following battle with Cassandra in Xavier's body (Xavier was in Cassandra's, which was comatosed) the mutant healer Xorn healed Xavier's body while Jean switched the minds back. This healed his broken legs so he could walk again.

A short time later we learned that Xorn was actually Magneto (note: in continuity it wasn't magneto but really Xorn, who made himself to look like Magneto... yeah, it's X-Men)... anyway... Magneto/Xorn reveals that he fixed Xavier's legs by bonding it with metal or something like that. He undid what he had done and Xavier becomes crippled again.

Then when Wanda did the whole House of M thing and said "No More Mutants" reality was fixed, along with Xavier's legs. This was never explained and probably won't be... but none the less, he can walk again.

And that's where we are at the moment.

Did I miss anything?

Awesome (the replies, not the story itself :hehe:) Thanks guys

I want to say they died during the Annihilation: Heralds mini (the Silver Surfer story), but I could be remembering that wrong.

I know Eternity showed up in Mighty Avengers 2 issues ago, that's all I know.

OK thanks. I just really wanna see them come together to stop a great threat again, like in Infinity Gauntlet.

There was one page of that series that sticks out to this day, two Celestials throwing ****ing planets at Thanos. So awesome. I wanna see some mad **** like that again.

Thanks for the info about Dark Reign. Another one I'll have to check out.

I don't want to spend the money on all the offshoots for these stories so I think I might just get the X-men, Iron Man and Spider-Man ones since those are the main three characters I read.

Check out the Deadpool Secret Invasion books aswell if you want. They sorta lead up to the end. Deadpool steals some data from the Skrulls for Nick Fury, but Norman Osborn intercepts it. Basically, the info Osborn steals from Fury via Deadpool leads to him taking over and the Dark Reign.

It ain't essential though, just a little background info.

I still havn't read Annihilation: Conquest yet, but what happened to Starlord's cyborg look between Annihilation and GotG?

Yea it is briefly shown just before he meets his team mates who will go on to be the GotG

So they didn't make that big a deal about it then? I'm rereading Annihilation now and I had no idea Peter Quill was in it. Not knowing the character, the first time I read it ages ago it didn't register who he was when I got into GotG :s

Here's a stupid question: Anyone ready for Franken-Castle?

anyone?

thought not. :o

I remember when it was first announced some *****e said it sounded like a good idea. I think it was Jew Hob. Could be wrong.

**** Frank anyway. Maybe this Frankencastle thing will actually make him interesting.

The early Max books were ****ing awesome though to be fair.

What's this Frankencastle nonsense? I was afraid to ask but..

Daken, Wolverine's son, sliced Frank up in Dark Reign: The List. Someone found his remains and turned him into a Frankenstein thingy.

Nope... must have been some other *****e (though in your defense, I typically like the stories most others dislike).

I've really liked Remender's Punisher, but stopped collecting a few issues ago due to finances. I've never had any intent of picking up FrankenCastle....

Though, since learning that Morbius and Man-Thing are in it, I'm a little curious now.

Oh... the reason I came into this thread in the first place...

Millar's Nu-World.... I've not read his Fantastic Four run, but wasn't there some connection to that and his Old Man Logan? Did we ever find out what that was?

Do I really have to buy every comic book that has SIEGE in the title in order to follow the crossover?
