Why are people taking Hamm seriously?. The guy is 6' pretty much on the dot. Far to short for Superman. Any other candidate at that height would be laughed at & pushed aside. What makes Hamm so cool that you'd be willing to have a short Superman?.

Steve

I like Hamm alot. I guess you have to watch Mad Men to get him.

Also, I realize he's a bit older but what Hamm has is, an old school leading actor vibe; rugged and handsome. You can see him hanging out with Steve McQueen and a young Clint Eastwood.

Because of his allure, it reminds me of Max Fleicher's Superman or even Alex Ross' rendition. It doesn't matter if he's 'short'; he still has so much gravity to him that it makes him looks larger than life anyway.

In the end, I think it's time to let Chris Reeve go (but never forget his legacy) and come up with an actor that fits Superman but is different. I'm not saying that Hamm 'is the one' but someone in that category.

Watch MAD MEN.

i think Chris Hemsworth build is perfect for superman . but for that you need to cast the actor 6 months before filming starts. not 3 months and not 2 months.

what do you think?

please no bashing of Thor,beard,......

p.s.: they will not cast a bodybuilder. enough.
p.s2.: please dont writte that you think Chris should be superman.

Has a good look, not that familiar with his acting though. Hard to judge from a cheap film.

I'd prefer a Superman actor who's AT LEAST 6'2.

He has to be able to look taller than Ryan Reynolds (Green Lantern) who's 6'2.

Especially now that we know Robinov and Co. want "Justice League" to happen.

I know you are right, especially when considering a JL movie. I think an exception would be a known actor with a good physique, excellent acting range, and of course a face that makes you think you are watching Superman (poor unmasked hero :( ) :p

Im more concerned about a good Superman for a good SUPERMAN movie nevermind a Justice League film...plus Im pretty sure boots, camera angles and modern technology can add 2 inches if it means that much to people.

Chris should be Superman :awesome::cwink:....seriously tho, my personal preference is for Supes to be somewhat smaller than that, but bigger than what routh was. If he's too big, it would be kinda hard for Clark to *hide* in plain sight.

There is no such rumor.

It was just generated within this thread.

The Older Superman is not rumored..we're just what if'ing since they said this superman would already be known by Lois and Metropolis. To me that says he is already established, and I personally dont think Superman could be established in 6 months or a year.

Also, they said they're looking at a TV star that ( I forget the exact words) people are not talking about, but that its prolly your first guess ( something along those lines) People then instantly thought of Jon Hamm.

Thanks for clarifying.

Run a search, it was probably in this thread. Better yet Showtime can chime in. I thought he said something about them leaning towards a more established older Superman. Let's ask him, could have been what he said or maybe I misunderstood it with the flow of discussion. No big deal.

While it would be interesting to see an older Superman I hope they go with someone young as Nolan did with Bale. I don't want the film to be a one shot deal because the actors are too old for sequels.

See, here's the problem I have with this guy and other actors who have a similar "look": it's too Abercrombie and not enough farmboy. Just looking at this guy's face, there's nothing about him that says, "Hey, I lived on a farm for most my life. I'm used to physical labor and stuff."

That's why picks like Hamm, Caviezel, etc. are damn good ones. Yeah, they're older, but you can tell they've actually done some real middle-America living, and not just stepped out of the salon.

Agree w/ Compi716 here. If it's true that we don't see Superman for 1/3 of the film, then you have to think there is going to be some back-tracking on this. That means we're going to get some derivative of an origin -- not a complete re-do, but I think shots of Smallville, the Kents, and Clark's past.

I agree that Hamm, Caviezel (and may be Fox) look like the midwestern farmboy. The others give off the a sort of metrosexual/pretty boy model appearance that IMHO doesn't convince me they grew up in a small farm town.

As I said, I really like the notion of an older Superman. It definitely allows for a unique take on the character -- there are certainly many things you can do and say with an established character/look that a too-young Man of Steel couldn't pull off.

And given this is supposed to be a story that's more in the middle of Superman's life, the older cast makes sense.

Finally, I -- like anyone else -- would love to see more Superman films, but you know, after Returns, I just want ONE excellent movie. We're talking sequels when Superman hasn't really had a good movie since Superman II (and even that's debatable).

I'd take one amazing film w/ certainty vs. the mere prospect of sequels.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Adding two inches to height does nothing to giving someone a more imposing physique and actual physical stature. All it does is make them a couple inches taller. Superman needs to have an imposing physique overall...longer torso with broad shoulders and well-muscled. Lifts in the heels does nothing to accomplish that.

Technically, he should be able to look like he could go toe to toe with Chris Hemsworth. ;-)

I'd rather they not rely on movie magic and camera angles to make Superman look imposing.

Superman needs to be taller than Green Lantern at the very least.

In other words, Brandon Routh's current build.

I'd be satisfied with the current size of routh on another actor, yup.

The height thing is really ridiculous, Daniel Craig, George Clooney and Viggo Mortenson are all around 5' 10" and you never hear anyone complaining about them.

Let's just cast Jon Hamm and be done with it.

That's because they aren't playing Superman. :cwink: Superman does not and should not have a suit that can make him look larger like Clooney had for Batman. The other two didn't play superheroes, so their size really doesn't matter because there is no visual/physical reference that people are used to seeing.

If you dont want them to rely on movie magic to make him 2 inches taller - does that mean the actor needs to be able to fly too?

He's rather an unknown but if an older actor could do then Chris Beteem would be as good a suggestion he's 6 ft and he's got charisma !
Just sayin'

The actor needs to look like Superman onscreen and off, as Showtime said once.

I agree with this.

I don't want a dude that needs to stand on boxes to look the same height as Ryan Reynolds or whatnot.

Superman needs to be tall and imposing. The physical requirement for the character is huge, that's why it always goes to unknowns.

The insider said the actor they're looking at is on tv on a well known show. I was watching Psych and it hit me. What if it was the dude who played McNab? I know the chances are slim, but I'm just putting it out there. He has the look. He plays a bumbling fool in Psych, although I don't want Clark to be a bumbling fool. He must have confidence.
