Here's your Clark Kent -

I respect everyone's suggestions and I agree Caviezel is a good actor, but I don't see what everyone is saying about how he "looks" more like Superman than Fox or Hamm.
IMHO, Caviezel doesn't look right in that suit. His face isn't long enough.
As for those who say Hamm is too short. 5'11" can easily be worked with onscreen. Really -- the height issue is a non-issue. Bale is just an inch taller and Robert Downey, Jr is 5'9". Neither of those actors look 'short' in their films. Neither would Hamm (Fox is 6'2", BTW).
Agreed -- and that's exactly why I don't think he should be Superman. Caviezel does look similar to Craig (even when he squints). That's not Superman or Clark. I just don't see Caviezel playing a convincing Clark. Hamm, Fox, and even Levi, I can see Clark. Caviezel? IMHO, wrong for the role.
May be it's because every time I see this guy, I can't get Passion of the Christ out of my head. May be it's because I can't picture a more light-hearted film based on Caviezel's resume; the guy doesn't do comedy and he doesn't deliver punchlines very well.
Hamm, even Fox -- have shown they can do comedy and light-hearted (and that they don't take themselves too seriously). I disagree that Caviezel is a better actor. IMHO, they're pretty much in the same spot. Hamm, though, I think can play the dual role better based on his character/range in Mad Men.

Im being serious...what an UGLY man.
Maybe they are looking for both? Someone who can act and looks like Superman?
Once again, Superman is not just about being taller. It is about having a large imposing physical stature. Unless they intend on CGI'ing the body for Hamm, Bomer, Cavill and some of the other names mentioned, adding lifts to their heels still isn't going to make them look the physical part of what Superman should be.

I knew that was coming. But Michael had surgery, whats his excuse?![]()
Im being serious...what an UGLY man.
By the way, I like Fox, however his acting was far from great on LOST. He was solid at times and then at other times he would just go into "Jack Face" mode! hahaha
Wait--what? I'm sorry, but Hamm is not ugly. The man was on the cover of GQ as one of the breakout stars of the year (below). The man is also in Parade Magazine and was recently selected by women as one of the hottest bachelors on the market. I find it amusing people always put up shots of him here where he's clearly not on-shoot, but just hanging out. Sure, he looks grungy unshaven but he's undoubtedly the closest match in terms of acting/looks to an Alex Ross Superman.Im being serious...what an UGLY man.
Superman is not about delivering punch lines and making people laugh.
That's what the other clowns at the Daily Planet are for!
Well said, GreenKtoowow.. I'm sure glad Nolan is in charge of the casting, otherwise we would have a fabio type for superman.
I'm straight. But I can see Hamm is a good looking man. You must be the best looking guy in the world if you can say Hamm is an ugly man.
Good looks run through the family,I am related to her.

Hamm looks like Hugh Laurie IMO.
Ummm ... and Hugh Laurie, in your opinion, is ugly? What? You know he was chosen by women as one of the sexiest men alive today, right?
And no offense, if you're a guy, it'd be awfully weird to say you look really great by putting a photo of a woman (be it your cousin, sister, etc.).
I really don't need my Superman to look effeminate.
As the late George Carlin once said, We're letting fashion and hollywood junks p*ssify men. Give me Hamm any day.
Point is the pretty boys can stay home and comb their hair. Nolan needs to give us a SuperMAN.
Hamm looks like Hugh Laurie IMO.
I agree about Fox -- I didn't watch much of Lost, but from what I saw, I wasn't that impressed with his acting. I do think he could work though and I wouldn't mind seeing him in the role.

Alex Ross himself wanted Hamm to play Captain America. Of course, that didn't work out since Marvel wants an Avengers film and the Captain America flick is an ORIGIN film.
Nolan's Superman isn't (as far as rumors go), so as an established Man of Steel, I totally see why DC/WB are seriously considering Hamm.
I couldn't disagree more. Have you read the All-Star Superman books? Have you read Loeb/Sale's Secret Origin take? Or Loeb's For All Seasons? Or even JLU? Clark isn't the silent, hunched back Chris Reeve type anymore in the comics, and neither is Superman. Sure, they don't deliver "punch" lines like Spider-Man, but it's incorrect to say Superman/Clark are the silent treatment type anymore.
And mild comedy is definitely something the actor needs to be able to do. The personality of Clark Kent requires that acting to make him human and likable. I don't think most of us here want the incredibly quiet film (dialogue wise) that SM Returns was ("I'm always around" -- seriously?! really?! and Routh's Superman said that twice -- remember the great lines from STM, of course Returns' best line was the one Superman already said from the first movie ("flying is still the safest way to travel" ... sad). Anyways, Superman does deliver "punch" lines. We just haven't gotten actors good enough to deliver them :-P Welling? Oh please.
On that note, may be this is why I don't like Smallville, either, because Welling is essentially Reeve's version of a young Clark. Quiet, too subdued (though that also has a lot to do with his lack of acting range).
Superman movies don't have to drown in dialogue but they need good lines, and we didn't get any last time (in part b/c the writing, in part b/c the acting). The Nolans and Goyer write great dialogue, and I suspect we'll hear a good amount of it between Lane and Kent. That, and the more light-hearted feel along with the action require an actor with broad range.
I'm not saying it HAS to be Hamm, but these are things that are much more important than the dude's height.
Well said, GreenKtooSo am I. People here seem way too concerned with having some buff, CW looking Superman.
I don't want another Abercrombie Superman (which is what Routh was in Returns). I also don't need a muscle-sized brute, either. Superman gets his power from the red sun; sure, he's got muscle, but his strength comes from being on Earth, not because he has bulging, vein-ripping muscles.
And he's a midwestern farm-boy at heart. Few of the names mentioned here really give off that look. Hamm, IMHO, has that midwestern look and I stand by the point that if Nolan is aiming for an established Man of Steel, he is the one and only best choice to play the character.
