I honestly haven't heard of Hamm being considered until a few weeks ago. I've always heard of Caviezel and Cavill though.
I did this two minute chop about two years ago, and I'm certain I was behind the curve back then.

My new favorite for the role in the reboot is Tahmoh Penikett.
-He's 35
-He's 6'2 1/2
-He's a good actor.
-Fairly unknown to the general public.
-He's pretty big muscle wise.

Holy crap, Helo! Why didn't I ever think of him?

He is a really good actor, as evidenced with his range on BSG.

A great suggestion!

i see...well, Hamm has been mentioned on these boards since Sept/Oct 2009, but it wasn't until Christopher Nolan was announced as producer that his name started popping up every other post.

Ah okay. Well that's still a shorter amount of time than Caviezel and Cavill. I've seen their names pop up even before Routh was announced.

I dont know if I'd want Hamm for Superman. I could see him as Rick Flag in the event of Suicide Squad ever either getting their own movie or appearing in someone elses (with Waller appearing in GL, who knows?)

I'm more inclined for a younger, more fit actor to play Superman. Doesn't necessarily have to be bodybuilder size. But someone who can put on some muscle at least.

I still think an unknown is the best way to go. An unknown American actor like Matt Burns.

6'3, blue eyes, age 26 born in South Dakota.

Trained at the Carnegie Mellon Univ School of Drama in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, NIDI in Sydney, Australia.

I think he has a good look. Square jaw. Hard to picture it all with the hair style but I'm sure if he grew out the hair, clean shave, dye the hair dark brown/black. And there we go. A solid actor, btw.

he has a good look. the only reason he (kinda) looks like a psycho is cuz he has the same blank expression in those shots. he'd definitely need to pack on some muscles though. the fact that i cant find many vids of him through google also makes me question his acting.

Well, if that's so, I hope you'll consider changing your signature to BRING ROUTH BACK!!!

Done :D I originally had it but then I was pretty much convinced he won't be playing Superman again and if he isn't I really hope they go for an unknown or Welling (DONT START PEOPLE) but I mostly want Routh back and feel he may have a chance still.

I dont think we should have an unknown or a lesser known actor nowadays. Superman has been through too much **** to gamble and take chances on now with an actor we dont know about.

It might be only 1 film,so I say pick the best damn cast you can find and go all out.

Also ..Caviezel was going to be Cyclops in X-Men AND was going to be Superman, but Singer chucked him out cause he too well known...see that mistake?

A lot of people complained about Routh looking too young when he made SR...this guy looks even younger...not to mention too frail and thin (I know you said he could pack on muscle...just commenting on those pics of him).

well known actors in leading roles for superhero films doesn't necessarily guarantee or help the film.....as we can see with numerous superhero films like Daredevil, Elektra, Ghost Rider, and League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. unknowns & up and comers have done well (for the most part) for superhero movies simply for the fact that they're not associated with any other popular roles.

interesting...unfortunately, for Routh fans, i can pretty much guarantee they'll be getting a different actor to wear the red, yellow, and blue tights.

I like Hamm, as far as first impressions go. I've never seen his show, so this is purely on a "head-shot" basis and not his acting, which I do hear is good.

There's a confidence in his appearance that I think would serve him well as a different take on Clark -- one that's quietly confident and competent -- and would obviously suit him well as Superman, too. Also, I'm almost 30, so it's nice to see a guy that actually looks like a grown-a$$ man.

Most of these other choices look like kids to me. I suppose if you're a poster on this board in your teens/early 20's (or a general fan watching the film) that's not such a big deal -- the actor would likely seem more like a man to you just because they'd be older, but there's definitely a point appearance-wise where you go from boyish to grown-up that some of these choices haven't crossed yet.

Routh will always have a huge wave of supporters and generally he gets the highest votes for Superman in any poll I've seen. Sadly it's doubtful he will return, but I'd be estactic if he did.

Hamm is just too old for my tastes. He would have been a much better choice during the the 2004 casting years. The lack of height bugs me too

Is it possible that Routh's support is a little more limited to the Superman fans on the internet? It looks like a lot because they all populated the same areas on the internet.

With that said, he certainly has the look and it seems he was just wasted on the wrong type of film. Too bad cause Singer is actually quite talented. He just missed the mark on what type of film to make, with a limited story line too. Things just managed to NOT work out for those involved with that film.

If you read between the lines a little bit, I don't think as a Superman fan Routh was all that pleased with SR. But he was a newcomer at the time and he wasn't going to ask to review a script. There was no turning the role down regardless of how good/bad the story may be. Now as they reboot the franchise, his shot probably ended with the bullet that bounced off his eye in SR.

True in a way,but those characters were B-Listers and not that popular or well known.

But what I meant was we need an actor who has the experience that is required. Caviezel is 41 and will be 43 by MOS's release, but I think he is the strongest contender.

Caviezel can't ever be washed up really. He has nothing to prove, as he already made it. Sure you can say he isn't working as much, but that doesn't take away from a good career.

I have 2 things to say to you Superman: The Movie and Christopher Reeve.

Besides if you cast a well known actor as Superman. Most people will look at at him and say "Hey it's so and so in a Superman suit". Not "Hey look it's Superman".

I think that argument fails in today's society.

If it is a really good actor that makes the role his own (not playing a character the same as in other films he does) there should be no problem. If it were the most known actor, with a great look for the character, it would not take me out of the movie at all.
