I like the trunks and no laces with more muscle

I'm not sure I like the slick look, but it's a unique look nonetheless...

Are we really doing this again?

Fanboii- Get the hell over it, you are not being design-jacked... Stop whining and let your design stand out on it's own...

How am I whining? Don't exaggerate my post and then respond with agression. If you actually read what I wrote, I'm explaining my position because I was accused of being a hypocrite. In fact, I also said people are free to do whatever they want.

What I'm pointing out that you and DorkyFresh are over looking is the difference between plagiarism and proper citation and image use. There is a professional way do it that respects everyone. All I'm trying to do is encourage good practice. What I find hypocritical are self-serving Superman fans who don't have strong values.

I'm not the one over blowing this and I was hardly berating Slugster. I know he didn't mean any harm.

Do you request permission from Warner Bros., DC, or the original photographers whose work you use for your manips? Do you pay Henry Cavil a fee or residual for using his likeness in your work? Not many people producing work here do...I'm sure a place like DC wouldn't be happy with a mere citation? True good practice would be purchasing the rights to use images before manipulating that. No one here does that, so no one here really has any right to claim ownership of piece in any real way.

I agree with citing sources when you are using another artist's work, but again you are trying to lay claim to a pose from a doll... That is not your creation. There is a different head and a different suit. You have no right to your little back handed comments...

Someone can use that doll pic as a starting point for a manip without it being plagiarism of your design...

I don't request permission from WB/DC because I explicitly disclaim I don't have ownership to the likeness of their character, they do. Same goes with the original photographers. I don't buy the rights because I don't intend to own those images and use them commercially to receive profit. Therefore, citation is sufficient. There's a difference between creating original work from appropriation and altering other people's work.

I'm not ordering anyone to take anything down. I was expressing how I feel it would be nice to have more courtesy.

Yes they can use the original in the same way and it would be nice if they did. However, I did a lot of retouching to the original and when that is used, I feel like I deserve some credit.

Fanboiii,
Im sorry it offended you, but I liked your Superman manip. I loved the belt and if anything I was useing what i thought was a great base to work with. Everyone's art is different just like everyones music some people do the same song but make it thier own just like art. Im not trying to make yours better because yours is great. I was just doing my version.

I know Im just trying to stay classic with a new look. (materials)
I want somthing that shows power and muscle definition.
the new pics of Henry just shows how good he will look. I just hope they at least stay classic.

No one here is trying to steal or plagiarize the work of others. The way I've always seen it is like a community effort. We post and share our work for others to see and we can all tweak and alter the designs as a point of discussion to further conversation, speculation, etc. The Hype! is a melting pot of opinions and viewpoints and I feel manips fall into that category as well. We are all here for the same reason - we love these characters. No one means any harm or to step on anyone's toes. At the end of the day, it's all in fun and it really isn't meant to be anything that causes stress or anxiety...

An individuals work is by definition the opposite of a community work. I would ask if I were so inclined.

I would, too - but all I'm saying is that there is never any malicious intent intended by anyone. I think the difference is between tweaking someone's work and claiming someone's work as your own.

It's gonna happen - people are gonna tweak other people's art. I don't think there's any way around that. I guess just to be safe: if you don't want to risk people (possibly) altering your work, then it might just be a good idea not to post it (as unfortunate as that may be)...

I dunno, just my $0.02

Jim Lee style hair looks good on him... although I hope they part it the right way.

Maybe they should give Cavill Jet Black hair with Blue Highlights. Comic book style :woot:

Wow, fanboys unite! I'll never understand the DC vs. Marvel war, as carried out by people on these boards. A JLA movie (done right) would be incredible. So will the Avengers movie (same caveat). Why do you have to demean one to like the other?

I do it because it allows me to be prejudice and p.c. at the same time.
