The Official Superman Fan Art & Manips Thread - Part 4

Just continuing my last post from the old thread on the matter of the red shorts, I think there could be a way of making that area of the costume red to keep the traditional look but without putting red briefs over the suit. Make a unibody suit that is simply red in that crotch and ass area, along with the chest emblem.
Or better yet, have the butt area made of a slightly different material but part of the costume -- the same way that army pants have the extra backside sewn on for better reinforcement, rather than making it look like he's wearing speedos over a leotard. There must be a way to do that.

No. Just... no!

It looks like he stole Hawkeye's skirt or something.

That's actually a pretty good piece of art, the artist does have a great talent there. As for the uniform itself, the logo on the belt is a bit redundant and the red on the inside of his leg looks like he's on his period. He/She has a gift for art though.

Love the cape attachment and how it drapes though, very regal. Would be a nice, one off Elseworlds uniform, or something somebody like Con El or Mon El would wear.

Super loincloth?

That red is a part of the suit on the inner thigh, not a loin cloth.

If you can't be civil...you should be silent.
It's a pretty bad manip and I have no idea why people with absolutely no skills put manips online for everyone to see and judge. Can't they see it looks terrible?
It's called sharing your work and enjoyment with friendly people who have the same interests.....something that smug self righteous meanspirited trolls can't understand.
No...i just said somebody needs to have self criticism before he puts a work of art online for everybody to see and judge. The manip is terrible but i`ve seen worst examples.
Sort of like someone should show self restraint with thier comments so that they don't come off as a smug self righteous unfeeling meanspirited troll?

I couldn't make a manip to save my life, so I say more power to each and everyone who not only does it but shares it regardless of how others might feel about it. I'm with Goblin, if I like it I'll say so and if I don't I sure as **** can't do better so I'm not putting anyone on blast.

One thing Indy did show which we've mentioned before is that there was a heck of a lot more wrong with Singers' lightning than there was with the actual costume. I know some gripe about the symbol belt buckle, but other than that when you look at the milk ad is there really much to gripe about with that suit?

Im going to laugh as much as I want of the bad manips and praise as much as I want the good ones.

Sorry but when you put an artwork online, you are subject of criticism. And I speak this as an artist myself. If you cant take the bad criticism, you shouldnt post the work that is not good, simple as that. You need to have standards.

All I can say is...go ahead....and then I will infract you for trolling. If it's that darn hard for you to act civil...then you will be gone soon.

I'm not saying this is the ideal suit at all. What I am saying is that there are other ways of incorporating the red "loin" area into the suit without making it look like he's wearing his underwear over his costume. Simply make the area a different color, i.e. red.
In this particular case, which I found to represent an interesting design, may be too long in the crotch area, but at least shows how you can still have red color in the crotch region of the suit without it looking like a pair of red briefs. Think Spider-Man -- his suit is two-tone and looks two-tone -- it doesn't look like he's wearing a red webbed top over a blue leotard. It looks like one unibody piece that is two-colored. There must be a way of making Superman's suit also look that way.

I like this version. Obviosuly as a variation and not the definitive suit. But it's got parts of it that I like.

Funny how you consider 'LMFAO' criticism.

There is a difference between criticism and outright insulting... And I say this also as an artist myself.

I had a problem recently coming on here wasted and blasting people for their efforts that I thought sucked, but I realized what they need is encouragement and advice, not ridicule... Look at the Penciljack forums for the right kind of conduct for giving artists critiques...

And I also got a warning from the mods, and that bummed me out...:cwink:

good artwork... but never in a million years would I ever want that to be Superman.

Not criticising the standard of the artwork but this is another example of a failed attempt to incorporate red into 'that' area while excluding the trunks. It never looks good. Makes me laugh that people think the trunks look silly but this doesn't. And yes I know nobody on here has said they think this is a great solution, but obviously somebody does.

This costume looks like something Wildstorm cooked up... Unfortunately, it's not Superman...

Cool pic, but those arms and legs are humongous...

*without quoting it so it gets posted the umpteenth time on the sam page*

Though I think the artist is very talented and has made a great superhero suit, to me it is NOT Superman. That red on the thighs is too much like a loincloth (as others have pointed out) and I don't know why those who put red in that area can't just leave it as briefs.

Again though it's a great artists rendering of a superhero, I would never accept that as Superman.
