BATMAN: "Well, Reeve kinda screwed himself over by turning down roles that helped build the careers of other actors - he turned down American Gigolo and Pretty Woman, which went to Richard Gere. He turned down The Bounty and Lethal Weapon, which went to Mel Gibson, and ironically was directed by his former Superman director Richard Donner. He turned down The Running Man and Total Recall, which went to Arnold Schwarzenegger. He turned down Romancing the Stone, which went to Michael Douglas. He turned down Body Heat, which went to William Hurt."
SUPERMAN: "Damn. Those were a lot of good films he turned down."
BATMAN: "Yes they were. Any combination of accepting those offers would have probably helped him break through the 'Superman Wall', no offense."
SUPERMAN: "None taken."
BATMAN: "They even say Reeve turned down Kyle MacLachlan's role in Dune, but I'm guessing that was at a different point in production."
SUPERMAN: "And Cain and Routh?"
BATMAN: "Nothing personal against either of them, but neither of them are what you would call great actors. And of course Routh wasn't helped by the lackluster performance of SR. Cain at least managed four seasons of Lois & Clark, which is more than can be said of Routh, whose last lead role was Dead of Night based on the Dylan Dog comics, which didn't even get a proper release here in the States."
SUPERMAN: "I thought Routh was amusingly deadpan in that one."
BATMAN: "I haven't actually seen it so I'll take your word for it."
