I enjoyed the heck out of thor but no way did I enjoy it than spider-man (as an origin story).

my top five superhero origin movies

1. spider-man (by a mile imho)
2. iron man
3. thor
4. batman begins

other than those I find superhero origin movies pretty boring

I didn't say another twenty minutes. But for that middle portion of the film, another 5 minutes wouldn't have hurt either.

My mistake. And I agree, it wouldn't have hurt. But I do not see it as a flaw.

The problems with Thor is that it's best action sequence takes place at the 25 minute mark and nothing, absolutely nothing comes even remotely close to matching it. It's like the first Iron Man film. The second act action sequence at the village and then with the F-22's is the best of that film. Iron Man's showdown with Iron Monger pales in comparison.

I totally disagree, but then I find the end fight to IM1 probably to be the best fight in a superhero film ever. And why I think that is not because it's the longest(though it is one of the longest despite what anyone says) but that the fight is still IN CHARACTER. It's quality that put's it a cut above. Neither Stane or Stark have any pretentions about being badass mofo's who know how to fight really well. They fight exactly as you'd expect a fight to go off given their character's personas and given how the situation of the fight started in the first place. In most superhero end fights(or even non superhero fights) the end fight comes and suddenly the fights are now just actors doing some fight choreography and they're no longer embodying their characters. In the end fight of IM1, they STAY in character even when compounding that difficulty with the fact that they're also intercutting between guys in practical suits, puppetry and CGI constructs and yet it feels entirely natural & believable. Most end fights can't seem to get that right even though they only have actors solely to deal with and can do as many takes as necessary to get it right.

I'd rank Iron Man1, Superman: The Movie and Batman Begins over Thor. Spider-Man1 & X-Men1 I'd say come in below it. The the really bad origin films(AngHulk, X-Men bOrigins: Wolverine) come way below that. So not too terrible a showing for Goldilocks, I'd say.

I disagree. I felt the fight at the village was a bit corny (especially with the Warriors 3)... The way they fought, the lightning... it just seemed "Fantastic Four" to me

The end fight between Incredible Hulk and Abonmination is by far the best fight in Superhero history. It was something that could of been taken directly from any fanboy wet dream.

The problem I have with that fight is that considering the combatants involved, it shoulda been a helluva lot more epic. I'm talkin' skyscrapers getting knocked over and s**t. It was good I guess but there's just so much more that should've been done(yes, I realize budget constraints were likely to blame).

Its true the final confrontation isnt as grand as the Frost giant battle, but I think the difference is, theres a bit more going on in the final battle.

I really liked what they did with Loki here.

Hes not a typical badguy, supervillian, whatever - theres a emotional investment here thats been missing form other superhero showdowns. Thor doesnt want to fight Loki, hes provoked into doing it. I loved the "Brother.. please" trick and I LOVED how Thor kept Loki from moving while he made a tough decision.

Well done!

I prefer the final battle over the Frost Giant scene despite the Mjolnir awesome the later scene is full of.

Ok, I guess consensus only requires 3 or 4 Top critics weighing in(not sure whether it's 3 or 4 since the last 2 came in at basically the same time).

RT consensus:

One more Top Critic positive and we're at Certified Fresh.

One thing I'll say about it is that this is a case where I can very easily see the sequel being better than the original ala' the Spider-man & X-Men films. There's plenty of room to grow here unlike it was with Batman Begins, Superman: The Movie or Iron Man(which is why all their sequels were worse than the originals).

Just popping in to say I saw Thor tonight and loved it

Can't much say more without lots of spoilers but the drama, humour and action were all very well done and, considering the comparative sources, I'd count this as awesome as Iron-Man 1.

Brannagh, Hemsworth & co pulled Thor off superbly (imho) and can't wait for his return in Avengers

I keep hearing that Thor in 3d is dark and blurry in spots, and doesnt contribute anything to the film. Has anyone seen it in IMAX 3d? Is it the same case?

That is my ONLY option to midnight Thor, and Im pretty miffed about it.

Regarding the chemistry between Hemsworth & Portman, I liked it. Maybe some have said she doesn't get much to do but I liked them together in this very much. Hell, every other time she looked at him you could tell she just wanted to rip his damn clothes off and go to town. Now THAT'S a Natalie Portman I like.
