The Official 'Thor Rate & Review' thread - Part 3

I thought it was good but for me there was something lacking. Also the 3D in this one just didnt do it for me. Too much of an after thought. The flying was tough for me to watch as a result. Thought the story was good and setup were good. Just needed something, and the villian eye shooting thing was meh for me. All in all I'm waiting to see how he factors into the avengers.

"villain eye shooting thing"..???

you mean the destroyer shooting the beams?
It was a tad short, but I still thought that fight was pretty BA

Yes I was refering to the destroyer. Just thought there wasnt much too it for the ending. Thought the ice giants in the beginning was a better fight.

The Destroyer fight was pretty short but you gotta admit, Thor defeated him in a spectacular manner, that tornado was awesome.

One thing Thor has going for it is that it doesnt play like your typical Superhero flick in fact a good number of my friends watched it without knowing it was Superhero flick just thought it was a fantasy film

Yes, it was dope, but too short; however, I guess that is so we could get to the real climax between Thor and Loki. Hopefully, the fight is extended in the DVD.

I think that is the advantage it has over other superhero films. It can rely on the mythology and fantasy aspect and dilute the comic/superhero element; thereby exploiting more genres.

There were a few lines in the Script of banter between the Warriors III during the Destroyer battle that were pretty funny just before Hogun and Fandral toss Volstagg, more like complaining than banter but funny still.

I do have a question though guys. In the Iron Man 2 after credits sequence were all the people at the hammer's crash site when Coulson shows up? I cant remember.

Yup, might've been the exact shot of them walking around it even if I recall.

thanks. guess I just wasnt paying attention to them because I was so fixated on the hammer.

Good, I hope to see that in the DVD. OH...just thought of this...It would be nice if they also put a short 30 min film about the warriors 3 and Sif fighting some elves, giants, training, etc. just for fun. Doubt they will do that, but it would be a nice way of giving them more screen time, and also selling more DVDs. Alot of the Dreamworks animated dvds have done this.

I just came back from seeing the movie. A bit light on the plot, and they wrote Odin as too accessible and friendly (he is an imperious king and a god of secrets, not a bar buddy) but I enjoyed the movie overall. The fight scenes become less impressive as the movie goes on but what there is seemed to be thundery goodness. The super-speed scenes he actually moves are super-speed, instead of slow-motion, which was great because I find slow-motion to be idiotic and terrible.

Good costuming and casting on Thor himself.

They absolutely could have done without the pointless romantic subplot for a character I didn't care about and who had no connexion whatsoever to Thor (I know Thor has a human girlfriend, but I mean that I didn't see any tension or cause or need for the romance subplot in this movie. I wish women didn't watch movies (or Hollywood didn't ****e their products out to their perceived demographic) so I didn't have to put up with this crap in every superhero movie, but oh well.

This movie was OK but nothing special. A few things that bothered me:

- Loki was a poor villain. He lacked charisma, personality and motive. Exactly why was he mad at Thor and Odin? I mean, he finds out he's a frost giant and 2 seconds later he's screaming at Odin. He claims Odin doesn't love him as much as he loves Thor but there isn't a single scene in the movie to back this up. I don't get his resentment of Thor either. If they had shown Loki as a jealous brother who wanted the throne then i would get it. But now, out of the blue he wants to be king and hates his brother. i don't buy it.

- Thor comes to earth and falls in love with the first woman he sees. Why? Seriously why? What is it about Jane that would make a Norse god of thunder fall in love with her in just 2 days? He spends all this time fighting along side a beautiful strong woman but he falls in love with a bland science geek.

- Exactly what made Thor change his mind about wiping out the frostgiants? His 2 days on earth? How?

Yeah, I agree with all of this. They should have ditched the Mandatory Romantic Subplot and just gone with more fighting.

I actually thought Jane was a strong female character, and who wouldnt fall in love with Natalie Portman? Come on, if she was the first thing you saw on earth you wouldnt be complaining.

I understand what he said. Hollywood wants to reach as many audiences as possible. I still disagree with it, though. I like romantic subplots in movies and I'm pretty sure I'm not a woman. :o

How about the fact that he made Thor king? That's pretty much what backs it up. He feels like the lesser sibling because Thor became king. And when he finds out he's a frost giants he realizes that Odin never wanted him to become king, even though Odin himself said both were fit to be kings.

I don't think he resents Thor that much.

Again, why do people think it's love. It was an infatuation. It was a realistic romance. Yes, they could've gone much deeper with it, but they didn't. Also, he really liked that she was so smart.

I watch Thor a second time, and I think that this motive could have certainly been deeper, but I felt it was fine for now because I believe the overall lesson was for him to spend time with people of other realms as one of them.

Just saw this movie for the 5th time last night and I still absolutely love it and can't wait to wear out the DVD.

I wouldn't change anything except make the movie longer. I wanted more of every character on screen.

lol I used to do that quite often back in the day with vhs tapes.

I cant wait to get the movie on blu-ray, after seeing it a 2nd time I already know what scene's will look amazing.

Obviously, Loki was upset because Odin kept the secret from him, and because he discovered his true origin by himself naturally he was very pissed off. It doesn't explain in great details but in the comics Loki always feel inferior to Thor, because Asgard has a warrior culture, and Loki's talent lies in magic and trickery. Loki didn't feel Odin loves him as much as Thor because Thor was being named the heir to the throne, and not him. In the end, Loki had said he wanted to prove himself worthy to the all-father Odin. That's why he decided to destroy the realm that frost giants inhabited.

- Thor comes to earth and falls in love with the first woman he sees. Why? Seriously why? What is it about Jane that would make a Norse god of thunder fall in love with her in just 2 days? First of all, Jane was the first mortal woman he ever contacted with, and let's face it Jane/Natalie Portman is a very attractive woman. He also met her during several personal crisis that he faced in his lifetime, from being exiled from Asgard, to possessing a mortal & fragile body, to the revelation that he caused his father's death and his own mother didn't want him (Loki's lies). Basically, during life-or-death situations and life-altering events, the person who offered you alot of support will have an effect on you. However, you are wrong to say that Thor is in love with Jane; he didn't initialize the kiss, but she did. I think Thor is very fascinated by her and wanted to see more of her, and perhaps it will develop into a romantic relationship in the sequel. But Thor never once said he's in love with Jane, merely wanted to see her again.

Btw, I do agree with being so close to Sif should've had an effect on him as well, but who knows if they haven't been "friends in benefit" since they are essentially immortals?

- Exactly what made Thor change his mind about wiping out the frostgiants? His 2 days on earth? How?

Like I said, even though he didn't spend an eternity on Earth, he went through very dramatic & life-altering events that changed his personality fundamentally. Heck, he was killed, and I don't care if you were a god or not, it's going to have a lasting effect. In the end, he learned that it is better to be more compassionate toward others, and killing frost giants suddenly lost its appeal to him. Besides, he didn't really want to just kill the frost giants in the first place, but to pay a retribution to them after they broke the truce & sneaked into Asgard to steal their artifact.
