This one just seemed a bit out of place and a filler for the next movie.

Can you please explain that to me, because personally I'm having difficulty seeing how this film was a filler.

To me Goblet was the filler film, which is another reason I consider it to be the worst of the franchise.

Order introduced ALOT of elements, especially with the whole Harry psychological struggle aspects.

Thus, in my opinion Order is a "bridge", not a "filler", which as I said- I consider Goblet to be the filler of the franchise thus far.

A bridge and a filler are the same thing to me IMO. Just a transition to a bigger story line you know is coming. I think GOF, and OOTP are just bridges/fillers to HBP and the big finale. Nothing was resolved, nothing was accomplished, nothing really big happend. When Sirius died, it was just so fast and then done with and forgotten. Goblet wasn't a filler since it introduced the return of Voldermort as a major threat. Order just showed Voldermort is getting stronger. The books are bittersweet. They are great books but they make me judge the film on how it could have been or what should have been in there. It is still a good film and easily the best of all the summer blockbusters, it just seemed to fast paced and out of place.

Yeah, I can see what you mean. And as you said in the first sentence it's probably that I seperate my definition of "filler" and "bridge" whereas you look at them as, more or less, the same just different words to describe it.

the first half of the battle between dumbledore and voldemort reminded me a lot of Obi-wan vs. Vadar. like the music and the the sound effects of there magic hitting sounded like lightsaber clashes or something

Good stuff- I enjoyed it more than any other mainstream summer film so far with the exception of Ratatouillie.

A bit disjointed in parts, and I wasn't too thrilled about some of the Cho-related changes, but I enjoyed it overall. I still like Goblet of Fire best however.

rating: 8/10

Oh and by the way.....

LUNA RULES!!!!

Luna does indeed rule and the disjointed criticisms are definitely valid. The movie seemed to focus on Harry as a character rather than an actual plot he's involved in (like getting through the tri-wizard tournament, finding the chamber of secrets, etc.) All that said, it was my favorite Potter movie. The trio was at it's best in here.

Anyone else find Neville looking at the pic of the Order a lot more emotional then the last scene with DD talking to Harry? Not to take away from the movie cause it was the best out of the 5 (IMO of course).

THE ONLY REVIEW THAT MATTERS: MINE

This movie is a goddam miracle.

What people are forgetting is that this is the FIFTH FILM. Name any other franchise in history that can say it's had a fifth film anywhere near as well made as this one.... you can't. they just don't exist until now.

Yates did it. He found the spirt of the book, focused on it with unwavering attention and just let the magic happen. This is the best film of all the potters. This is also the best of all the summer films we've gotten this year, and last year.

Goblet wishes it were as deep, interesting, and well acted as this movie. YOU WILL GET YOUR MONEY'S WORTH FROM THIS ONE, FOLKS.

My favorite, most remarkable part of the film: Harry wandering alone through the hogwarts grounds with a voice over saying "I've never felt so alone" It's so PERFECT, it alone makes this movie better than all the others.

I love this one, fellas. Love it. And that's that. Can't wait for deathly hallows now! can't wait. Damn I'm going to see this again tomorrow.

No of course not. Dumbeldore admits his greatest error has been that he's cared for harry too much. That's pure tragedy if I've ever seen it. Though that isn't to say Neville's story in this wasn't great. I saw it as reflection of harry, just as it was in the book. Longbottom shared a similar past with harry, so that was captured well. Notice that they stood in front of a mirror.

3/10

Saw a special screening yesterday. Saw it with 1000+ employees. Everyone I spoke to thought it was crap.

It was very boring, slow and filled with meaningless scenes, ugly CG character design and bad character development.

Definitely the worst HP so far.

Absolute rubbish.

this is the only potter film besides the admirable attempts in PoA that actually made harry feel like he's developed further as a fully fleshed out person despite his tragic past. Radcliffe completely carries this film, and to me, IS harry potter now. I can't imagine anyone else playing him anymore.

rubbish post, wormy.

and i gotta say it was the best directed of the movies... and the acting was the best as well.

dazzling fx and what not.. which is why ill say i did enjoy it

HOWEVER...
the movie was truly utterly absolutely POINTLESS!.
NOTHING happened!... it was a complete "filler" movie.
and the one thing that did happen to try to progress the story didnt matter at all.

definatly overrated/overhyped movie...
NOT the best movie of the summer blockbuster but then again NOT the worst.
This is unfortunatly the end of all the big summer blockbusters, and also regrettably all the not-so-good-movies will come out on top box office wise...

Rating: 7.5 out of 10...

Wow. I'd say this film kicks the book's ass in a lot of ways. The book has its moments of greatness, but it's so full of droaning bloated stuff that good lawd it's a chore. But it makes a compelling character study as a film, and that's what yates did with some kind of magic ability the man must have... or whatever... wow, I'm still shocked that a fresh director could do as well as he has with this.

As for it being pointless, only as much as the book was really. What makes this not pointless of course is the wizarding world now realizing voldemort is back. But really let's not forget this is only part 5 out of a 7 part story that I'm confident now will become a one great story all together.

Oh and Umbridge smacks harry and you call it pointless... good grief. that moment shocked me. can't call that pointless, mang.

I have to agree with you about Dan. A lot of people are still complaining about his acting but I thought this was his best acting yet. He seemed to be a lot more emotional this time around. I mean it looked more real. The way they portrayed that Dumbledore wasn't looking at him and having Harry yell LOOK AT ME to Dumbledore. That was a great how they did that because in the book he was saying to himself the whole time how Dumbledore didn't look at him.

it looks like ti could top spidey 2's wednesday record...its looking right onthe buble of 40 million opening day.

One of these kids needs to go on Conan...the non safe talk show. He'll make them open if they just want to use one word answers.

I thought that Order of the Phoenix was perfect in almost every single way. They took the weakest of the books,in my opinion, and made it one of the strongest films in the franchise so far.It is rich in character development, emotion, and heart(I nearly cried at the end).Plus the huge climax at the Ministry of Magic was amazing, although much was cut from the book in this sequence and it goes by very fast,it was amazing action and the best climax ever to a Potter film. The only thing I wished they had done was add on some of the subplots to occasionally lighten up the darkest Harry Potter to date, but still without them it was an amazing film and well worth anyones time, especially Harry Potter fans.

I'd say it's a perfect: 10/10!!!!!!(It gives Prisoner of Azkaban a run for its money as my favorite.)

I'm pretty sure shes my age..or prehaps a few months older, but if I got to talk to her for 10 min..she'd be mine :cwink:

As a Huge fan of the Harry Potter books, since Ive read each one 22 times, I had to say that this movie was the best so far. After the third movie i learned to watch these movies as movies and not adaptions. However, people say it was far from the book but honestly it really wasnt. Of course they had to change some transitions (like Neville finding the room of requirement and Cho snitching) but some scenes were perfectly fromt he book. I loved it!

Standout parts had to be:
Luna
Bellatrix
and Umbridge! Perfect Castings!

Did anyone else experience a thunderous applause for both lines about Dumbledore's style and Harry's last line to Umbridge in the forest? When I saw it yesterday, the audience went nuts for those two moments.

As for my personal critique, I understand and agree a little as to why this film might be considered "pointless." In the big picture, the only truly significant plot advancements are the prophecy and the Ministry's recognition of Voldemort's return. However, this is probabably also the most poignent film for the characters. I spent much of the movie choked up, thanks to Dan's perfect performance and Yates' ability to bring to the forefront the emotional stuff. That's what really gives this film resonance.

ugly CG character design

Since I disagree with all of Wormy's other observations I'll just focus on this one.

Like the other Potter films, the CG is a bit uneven in this one, but it is better overall. The strong points were the new Dementor designs, the Thestrals and the final showdown in the Ministry of Magic. The weaker points were Grawp and (as usual) the centaurs.
