There is no way that you will last 3 years without knowing what happens in Deathly Hollows. There will be soilers everywhere. You may last a while but not 3 years.

I don't really want the whole HP experience to end. That's why I was debating whether to read the book in a single sitting like I did the previous two. Or read like two or three chapters a day. I doubt I will do that as I have no willpower.

Besides, with the books you get the full version of the ending. It won't be like that with the movies at all.

More on Yates and Half Blood Prince.

US, May 3, 2007 - David Yates, helmer of the forthcoming fifth film in the Harry Potter series, may be returning to direct the next installment, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

According to a report on the SciFi.com website, Yates made the news public himself during a recent interview. "I am doing Half-Blood Prince, and I'm doing it because I love the world, I love the characters -- I think I have more business with this world and these characters," he said.

Yates says that he's made a tonal shift with Phoenix and that he wants to continue to develop it with the next film. "I can see the fifth story evolving into the sixth story in a really interesting way. So I'm on a journey with this material and this world, and I'm keen to complete it," he told the site.

Regardless of Yates' self-purported status on Prince, the studio is not confirming his involvement at this time, which means negotiations are probably still going on.

Yates' Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, which is looking like it could be the best film yet in the series, hits theaters on July 13.

Why, I never. That's got to be a first, I think. No offense, but crazy doesn't come even remotely close to describing your apparent contemplation of avoiding the book just because you do not want it to spoil your inevitable cinematic experience. No one will last a week, if not days, without getting book spoilers thrown at your face somehow, which is why I plan to go cold turkey a few days before the book release and deprive myself of all things communicational. Also, you must never doubt your powers of imagination. They do a better job at visualizing and putting our minds at ease than the movies, anyway, so I cannot possibly fathom why anyone wants to pass that up.

It's true that most people, myself included, seem to be dreading the day when the book comes and would rather have the release date changed to a much later date. I'm actually hoping for the film to get here as soon as possible, but the exact polar opposite for the book.

As for that news on David possibly returning to direct, I certainly wouldn't mind seeing him do another one. He seems like the most competent one out of all four directors, if what we've seen so far are anything to go by. The actors seem to like him. Why not? It also makes sense to maintain some sort of continuity now that the franchise is coming to a close. While they're at it, I beg of them to please, please, please bring back Goldenberg, and sack Kloves.

Never hurts to try.

I hope they can get Cuaron back for TDH.

this trailer was incredible in front of spidey 3

more claps for that then SM 3

Well since Spider-Man 3 wasn't as great as I thought it would be...this is the only other movie I actually cannot wait to see. Here's to hoping it's good.

Why do so many movies now a days have catch phrases like "the end is near" or make a "final stand" and stuff like that.

theres no way harry potter 5 is a final stand in any respect, its more like the first battle..

...notice the character that title is used for :o

Yeah, everyone is always looking to spoil things in some way. You remember when websites were created to spoil the ending of Half Blood Prince, just be annoying. People wouldn't be able to last any amount of time before knowing the spoilers.

that's why I will be totally isolated during my reading

Me too. In my bedroom, single sitting, no outside influences.

This movie received the best reaction by far at the midnight showing of Spider-Man 3 I went to. I was kind of surprised, but I'm glad it did. I'm really looking forward to seeing this movie.

Even though she is an Australian citizen (which I love for that) or at least part Aussie citizen, she was born in England so at least is able to be considered.

She would be awesome as Narcissa I think...would play a darker and more evil side we have hardly seen from her before...I haven't seen 21 Grams, Stay or Mulholland Drive however...

Personally, I thought Joely Richardson would have made a great Narcissa. I don't mind Watts though, she's a gifted actress.

This is going to be the hand-in-hand financial & critical success that Spider-Man 3 left the void open for this summer.

I can feel it!

Yea Watts is a little young for that role, not saying she'd be bad but I thought they were going for all Brit casting with these. The Joely Richardson suggestion would be good.

Also, I love Spidey and Harry Potter but saying OOTP is going to be the financial and critical success that Spidey 3 wasn't is getting ahead of yourself. Remember there is a large faction of parents that still won't let their kids go to Harry Potter movies and this was still one of the weaker books in the series IMO.

Spider-man 3 wasn't exactly a critical success, but it's done very well financially. That's the impression I got anyway.

The big thing for OOtP is that July 2007 IS going to be Harry Potter Month - that's a fact. The last big blockbuster (Transformers) will be out a week and a half before, and the rest of the month's got little competition. Then there's the FINAL book (after a 2 year wait, a DECADE in the making) out July 21st. The Harry Potter name and brand will be on the news every day, on billboards, internet advertising, schools, libraries - this is marketing to rival SM3 and WB haven't paid a penny for it! THEN you have WB's own movie marketing, with the trailers, posters, billboards, interviews, etc.

Compared to SM3, it'll be cheaper, more global AND attract a wider audience (with readers, kids, families as well as the core base).

In terms of domestic (US) gross, SM3 may win. But globally, OOtP will completely dominate.

I've done that for every book in the series -- get them through the mail, shut myself off from the rest of society and read them in one sitting. I went to a midnight party for HBP and while it was fun, it was immensely draining (and some people at other parties were unlucky enough to be spoiled by some *****e saying "Snape kills Dumbledore!" after midnight). For the final book, I go back to my former plan -- preordered my book online, will avoid any HP-related sites during the first two days after the book's release and read it through.

HBP is scheduled to start shooting in September, so Yates is putting his final touches on OOTP for the next couple of weeks before handing the film over to the studio in June. (Film Score Monthly has an interview and score session photos for OOTP with composer Nicholas Hooper here -- page 4.)
