really liked this movie. spfx were HAWT and the suspense towards the climax in imax 3D was fantastic ! good on you WB, 5 films in and still the quality...
this is how you make blockbusters.
harry potter, roll out...

Seeing it tonight! Im so pumped!

I'm a little sad they didn't include the brain and time room segment into the movie. My goodness, that would've been glorious.
Thank God the brain tank was gone...when I was reading it I was like WTF!? The time room was cool up until the death eater's head was turned into a baby. I think Rowling was smoking pot on those few pages. I think that being left out is a good thing:woot:

best moment of the movie was in the climactic battle when Harry does the expiliarmus charm and Black says "Nice work James."

mostly unnoticed, but very telling.

I noticed that part as well. I thought the film was pretty good, some of the scenes seemed to go by quickly, Cho was completely useless, many didn't only had a small role, but it was still a pretty solid film. The last 30 minutes were a blast in the Ministry. But it would have been even better if it had lasted an extra 5 minutes. Dumbledore vs Voldemort made Yoda vs Sidious look like hog wash.

and i gotta say it was the best directed of the movies... and the acting was the best as well.

dazzling fx and what not.. which is why ill say i did enjoy it

HOWEVER...
the movie was truly utterly absolutely POINTLESS!.
NOTHING happened!... it was a complete "filler" movie.
and the one thing that did happen to try to progress the story didnt matter at all.

definatly overrated/overhyped movie...
NOT the best movie of the summer blockbuster but then again NOT the worst.
This is unfortunatly the end of all the big summer blockbusters, and also regrettably all the not-so-good-movies will come out on top box office wise...

Rating: 7.5 out of 10...

lol your rating seems superior than your review. anyway, is the direction even better than Cuaron's?

my quickie review...

as a movie, that pretty much stunk. It was like... a relentless series of events. no time to take a breath and feel one way or the other about stuff that's taking place.

I still loved it, as I'm obsessed with the book and could apply all the emotion and character stuff from the books, but I was talking with a few other book fans on the way home from the theater and we kinda all agree that that migt have been REALLY hard to follow if you didnt real the book...

To be sure, the occlumency/legilimency storyline in the movie only kinda make sense... It's the main event in the book, but is never really even fully explained in the film.

I was sad to see the St. Mungo's scene go, but I get that... didn't advance the plot, so it had to go.

I was annoyed though that with SO MUCH story to tell they'd keep the sacking of Trelawney , but didn't bother to explain why it was important she not be fired... and that stinks. (Similar to have the Marauder's Map in 'POA', but not bothering to tell the history of it).

The biggest let down, was to have that scene between Harry & Dumbledore (one of the GREATEST scenes of the series) marginalized to about a 1 minute of screen time.

The reality: As we near the end of the series of films, there aren't whole plot lines that can be left out. Most everything is vital.

Im guessing we should expect one of two things for the last 2 films:

*Either we get 2 movies VERY similar to this one, where there is only a handful of brief moments in the movie aren't merely meant to push the plot forward...

*Or we get longer movies.

It seems like in the past, the WB has been against making these movies any longer, so we can hope for the latter, but we'll probably get the former...

Regardless, it was fun to watch, since I had all the background and knowledge to fill in blanks and understand characters' motivations as stuff. Because of that, this movie was entertaining. I just wonder what a person who has no knowledge of the books would say if they saw this movie.

PS: what could they have cut out, to make way for more character moments? I cant think of really anything.

dammit! that was my favourite part of book 5. It almost made me cry and they made it wrong? f***

yeah... harry actually hears the whole prophecy at the ministry and Dumbledore just confirms that its true ... they don't even talk about Sirius. I was like... this is a joke. The scene basically confirms that 'neither can live while the other survives' bit, and TRIES to give some 2 second explaination of the occlumency/legilimency plot, but it fails miserably at the second task.

This is the first film of the potter film I have seen after the fact I have read the book. I read none of them untill after GOF movie.

It felt like a filler movie. The odd numbers aren't doing so well imo.

I thought they really didnt connect the fact that Serius and Bellatrix are cousin. They didnt show the importance of the proficy and Sybils role.
They didnt even get into the Order as a whole as much. It moved to fast to get to the Middle part of the book. I now see this through the eyes of the book reader unlike the first 4. The movie isnt bad but TOO MANY THINGS were left out that could have replaced other things that were in the movie.

I did think Daniel played up Harry's frustration very very well and all the actors were great. But I was so looking forward to the DUEL between bella and serius, the fact that kreacher had to listen to him after the willing of sirius' estate.

Im liking Michael Camdon as Dumbledore BUT his fleeing scene left much to be desired.

I give this movie a 6/10. transformers Have proven to be my movie of 2007 even though I thought Harry would. I didnt like POA and OOTP the movie...well I liked it but I left too much to be desired. I was not satisfied at the end.

6/10. In order of movies I like them as: GOF, COS, OOTP, SS, and POA
As Books my favs are in order as of now: OOTP, GOF, SS, POA, SS

P.S Dumbledore vs Voldemort was the highlight of the whole movie IMO. I loved that dayum scene.

And Bellatrix was played to perfection!

bring back the other directors. PLEASE!

did they do Harry and Snapes Occlumencey (sp?) sessions...? if so was it done right?

Im sorry one more thing. Sirius' death. I just put together. I felt nothing when he died. I think its because I don't like how it was acted out. OMG Im so let down I think now lol.

goes to watch GOF

Those sessions were spot on imo. and they included how harry got ticked and went into snaps brain. Showing the younger james, sirius, lupin taunting snape.

the guy who plays Snape is the most consistent to me!

I loved when Voldemort conjured up the fire dragon and Dumbledore created the ball of water.

But I really hope they come out with an Extended Edition.

No. In the book instead of a dragon, Voldy just made a shield appear.(Dragon was cooler). But one thing that was missing was that in the book, Dumbledore used a spell on the statues and they started moving, so when Voldy hit an AK killing curse, the statues would jump infront of Harry and stop him from being killed. That was cut out.
