Serene said:I keep seeing you say this, Sage, but honestly, I don't remember hearing any flack about Reeve being cast way back when. Maybe I just didn't hear about it, as you've pointed out, no internet back then (only stone tablets) but even at that age I was always pretty tuned in to popular entertainment, particularly movies.
Is there something you've read that indicated a backlash against Reeve's casting in the 70's?

One of the best drawings of Superman I know outside the comics.
Along with Reeve, Welling is and will always be Superman to me.
I totally disagree, but I think it's pointless to agrue further. You're not going to convince me and probably a lot of people on this thread.JcDc said:I actually see more of a Superman look in this pic![]()
Than any of the Welling pics he posted![]()

*cough*

I forgive you for missing that I was making a joke - it wasn't supposed to be a good Clark Kent manip. I actually made that manip over a year ago because a friend and I simply wanted to see Tom in glasses. I reiterate: TOM in glasses, not Tom as Clark. My friend did sexy Tom, I did goofy Tom...JcDc said:Still looks like an A&F model. His look is not average enough for a distinction in the identities.

In a way I can kinda see what you mean in regards to Routh, but for me you lose any footing you may have gained when you claim he's more suitable for the part than Welling looks wise.
It's not just 'cause I'm a TW fan, I am and I will grant that has probably biased me to some extent, but because he's just so average compared to Welling. You said so yourself, I believe, a few posts back.
Yeah, I guess he's handsome enough but he doesn't have that little extra something about him that Superman should have. A magnetism, a presence, that I feel TW has in spades.
Granted again: it could be there, since I've only seen a very few photos of Routh, but right now I don't see it.
But this is the whole reason why I'm now very lukewarm on the project: I'm not crazy about Routh for Superman. He just isn't close enough in look for me to what Superman should look like.
He looks more like Dean Cain than Chris Reeve anyway, IMO. His coloring is more like Reeve's but he lacks Reeve's sharply defined features. His nose is more rounded and his cheekbones don't have the same definition.
He's got a great chin and jawline for Supes, and that's probably the most Superman like quality he has. The cleft chin and the squareness of his jaw work well for that, but for me everything comes back to his eyes: They're just too dark.
I know that they'll use contacts or paint them blue using CG, or use some combination of both, but I just don't know how realistic that will look.
With Welling and JC, at least, even if their eyes aren't the sky blue you'd like to see with Supes, their eyes are a lot lighter and would have taken a lot less work to adjust the color to suit.
In a practical matter, having Routh wear heavy blue contacts for long periods filming an action movie will be difficult.
The color will have to be more opaque to cover up the brown in his eyes, TW and JC would have had a more transparent color in their contacts (had they even been necessary), and it would probably obscure part of his vision. That will be very hard on him and, I'm no expert on this, but I would think it might even compromise his safety.

Really? I guess we'll see but CGI might not be any better than contacts.sage1047 said:You're right...you're no expert.
Just kidding.
We'll see, they could use CGI. Have you seen Titanic? The way the blue eyes of the girl and old woman who played Rose matched? That was CGI I believe.
triplet said:Really? I guess we'll see but CGI might not be any better than contacts.
Daniel Radcliffe has brilliant blue eyes and TPTB originally tried contacts to turn his eyes Harry Potter green, but he couldn't tolerate contacts for some reason. Then they tried to CG his eyes green and it didn't look realistic so they gave up.
That's how we got a blue-eyed Harry Potter.
Will those same kinds of problems give us a brown eyed Superman? I hope not.
Nope, they deliberately cast Gloria Stewart because her eyes were so close to Kate's.sage1047 said:Have you seen Titanic? The way the blue eyes of the girl and old woman who played Rose matched? That was CGI I believe.

sage1047 said:Let's hope not. We've already had one brown eyed Supes, I think. What color were George Reeves's eyes?

.I'm sure they did a little post-prod touching up, but they matched the eyes as best they could when they were casting. Very distinctive eyes.sage1047 said:Really? I heard something different. Oh well, there goes that theory. LOL
No idea, I was never *cough*obsessed*cough* with X-Men.What about Mystique's eyes in X-Men?

Naturally I took it from there.
