Tom looks pretty young there, so I'm gonna take a stab and say 2001/02. Maybe James knows for certain? I have no clue what's on Spacey's tie. Funny how they were together though - and had their picture taken no less. As I said, priceless, just priceless.

ah yes, back in the days when Tom dressed decently. ;)

Supes and Lex together.......

oh wait!

jk

Yeah! He would have looked wicked ridiculous wearing a Batman logo under his tux at the Ocean's Twelve preem...

Oh wait!

:D :p ;)

It's funny you posted that because on E! they had snippets of last years GoldenGlobes red carpet and I thought I saw him now I'm sure same outfit same dress on his wife. Ironic picture though I'm not sure if I'm amused or sad.

Thanks Agent Pat I've seen them but it's been quite a while so I'll be thrilled to see them again.

This is from Roger Ebert's 1978 review of Superman the Movie. It's a little blurb about the casting of Christoper Reeve:

The producers held a worldwide talent search for an actor to play Superman, and although "talent searches" are usually 100 percent horsefeathers, this time, for once, they actually found the right guy.

He is Christopher Reeve. He looks like the Superman in the comic books (a fate I would not wish on anybody), but he's also an engaging actor, open and funny in his big love scene with Lois Lane, and then correctly awesome in his showdown with the archvillain Lex Luthor. Reeve sells the role; wrong casting here would have sunk everything.

Ebert's last line speaks volumes. If nothing else, casting decisions will make or break a film. No matter how awesome the budget for effects, if the actor is not credible in the role, the entire movie is all for naught. For all the flaws and weaknesses attributed to Smallville, one thing most people -- and those in the mainstream media who will be critiquing Singerman -- agree G&M got right was the casting. If Routh does not embody the role of Clark/Superman the way many agree that Welling has, that will spell doom for the reception of Superman Returns.

I can't even imagine where you found that, but I'm glad you posted it. I keep hearing people compare Routh's casting to Reeve's by saying that when Reeve was cast there were also a lot of unhappy people. I've always been a bit of a movie buff.. even back then, maybe even more back then, and I don't remember hearing of any controversy. Granted, there was no internet, but there were movie magazines.. and my mother subscribed to them all. All I remember is going to see the first Superman film in the theater as a teen and being enthralled by this perfect Superman from the first scene to the last.

Here's the link to Ebert's review of Superman, dated December 15, 1978.
http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/19781215/REVIEWS/41011001/1023
You can search all of his reviews on his website. He also gave a favorable review to SII. But, I can already imagine what the critics will say when they review Routh as Superman. To say that his performance will not be measured against Reeve's or Welling's is naive. If he excels, more power to him. But if he drops the ball in any way, just imagine the critical response. Of course, people will measure the performance against Reeve's, but I guaruntee there will be a sizable amount of mainstream media heads who will openly wonder why Welling was not cast. The sentiment that Welling and/or Smallville should have inherited the mantle was in the ether a long time ago (see recent posts quoting EW and The Digital Bits)... and that kind of talk will increase if Singer and co. don't deliver.

I've set up the TiVo. Thanks, Pat.

I've seen most of those, except for the first two I think, but I'm willing to see them again. ;)

You know Tom could have easily gone from Judging Amy to being cast in the Superman movie and no one would have batted an eye. I love how people pull up obscure modeling photos to act like he had a makeover. Ugh. it will be interesting to hear the reviews of Routh from the general public and critics. I think I'm looking much more foreward to that than the movie itself.

Given our unique insight into the process (insofar as it can be, that is), it will certainly be interesting...

Oh taaaaay! Slowly finding my way back to catching up on threads here. I'm saving the Doozie Thread for last 'cause I have a feeling that sucker is gonna take every ounce of self control I can muster up. [Keeps paper bag handy, just in case.]

Annnnyhooo.... Just came from the IMDb boards. I don't spend a lot of time there, and I can't remember the last time I actually posted something, but something caught my eye on the TW page. Looks like's he's grown a few inches...

http://us.imdb.com/name/nm0919991/bio

6'4"? Eh? I *thought* he was 6'3"?
confused.gif

Are they just being nitwits again, or is he really 6'4"? (It wouldn't surprise me to learn that he is.)

Heh. Anyway, bet this will fan a few more fires on various I-Net message *cough*Superman*cough* boards across the Net. LOL (As if they needed any more fuel.) :p ;)

Having just watched the first 3 of those eps, it's very obvious why they asked him to extend his stay. I bet Amy Brenneman INSISTED on it.

She probably threatened to walk if they didn't. ;)

I thought that he was at least 6'4" - despite what IMDB used to say - because John Schneider's IMDB profile claims he's 6'3" and I thought Tom looked to be at least an inch taller than John...

Funny, wasn't there another Superman that was 6'4"? ;)

And a more recent one that isn't?

Probably!

That one today where Tom and Amy are making out in his apartment: that kiss was amazing.

He definitely looks like a great kisser...

What have I told you before? ;)

I read once that his modeling profile said he was 6'2" and his shoe size was 13. I wonder if it was better to seem a little smaller at the time and now that's he's more famous he can be honest. Is that how it works?

Let's play a little game: If you take hundreds of the world's premiere male models, what are the chances that only half a dozen of them are 6'3" or taller? My guess is that you'd probably expect most of them to be pushing 6'2 or 6'3.

So then you check louisa-models.com, where Tom's modelling bio came from. The tallest any of the models are listed as being is between 6'2 and 6'3 - is it really that none of them are taller than that, or do the taller models have their height fudged a little? (That's rhetorical.) The reason they do it is that a model who is too tall can be just as problematic and undesirable as one who is too short. It's just a matter of the fashion designers wanting their clothes to fit properly.

On the shoe thing, I can understand the discrepancy; he could be measured as a size 13, but due to the shape of his feet he may not fit into anything smaller than 14. I have to take a size or two bigger unless the shoes have a square toe, otherwise my little toe gets crushed; maybe he's the same?

I know we've been down this line of discussion before, but right now, it's wicked early and I STILL haven't been to the TWSHBS thread, so I'd rather have fun rehashing silly things than get a headache debating stupid ones.

Yes, I've noticed this too. We'd have to assume Schneider's stats are correct to get an over 6'3" height though.

Funny, wasn't there another Superman that was 6'4"?

Hmm.. I do believe you're onto something. LOL

Lesse... Something about his needing to downplay his height in his old modeling portfolio because designers don't want models who are too tall. In later interviews, he's said that he's "probably" more like 6'3", but folks have suspected he might even be a hair taller based on side by side comparisons with other actors of known height.

How's that? Can I have a cookie? :D

PS: Remember, the bit about shoe size and toes is TMI. LOL!! ;)
