Days of Future Past The official X-men First Class BD/DVD thread

Looking over the deleted and extended scenes, I'm disappointed that an extended version of Charles' and Eric's chess scene won't be included. That scene felt too short and we know from the trailers there was more filmed than was shown in the movie.

So true. If there was nothing else on the DVD/BR beyond an extension of this scene I would have been super satisfied. Erik saying "Cheers" is missing as well as a shot that looks very much like Erik is giving Charles bedroom eyes. I think the scene ends on a cool note with "Peace was never an option" but I would also have liked some more friendly moments between them especially after their bonding via the satellite. :(

About the Blu-ray vs. DVD...I find it odd that I have DVD's that contain the movie, documentaries, commentaries, photo galleries AND special features like deleted scenes all on one disc, and now, suddenly, I'm being told that DVD's aren't capable of holding that much information, so I need to shovel out another $100 for a blue-ray player and spend more money to buy the movie in the blue-ray format to get it.

I've seen nothing offered on a blu-ray format that wasn't offered on a DVD format just a few years ago. If I got more, then fine...but I don't. It's such scheming business bull crap.

I'm sorry but you don't know what you're talking about.

Please tell me a DVD that has Maximum Movie Mode.

I guess my DVD's are cooler than your DVD's.

Allow me to add this, then...let's say you're right and all those things can't fit on a single DVD. I know this, however; there is plenty of space to fit the movie and the delete scenes at the very least!

There are a couple of features that are truely Blu Ray exclusive. Most of them aren't though.

It is a marketing ploy, of course. But there are things that only Blu-ray can offer - apart from the vastly superior picture quality, there are features exclusive to the format, such as Maximum Movie, BD-Live, picture in picture features.

A Blu-ray player can also play your existing DVDs (and upscale the quality so they are improved). You don't have to upgrade your entire collection of DVDs to Blu-ray, but you'll probably end up re-buying your favourites when there is a deal being offered.

On the downside, Blu-ray discs are more expensive to buy and might also be phased out eventually because technology experts predict we are moving towards a digital-only future for movies, just as is happening with music. But you can still buy music CDs even though iTunes has been around for 8 years, so there is usually a crossover rather than one format disappearing suddenly.

Well I hope physical copies don't disappear completely. I am totally okay with moving towards digital media, but for my own peace of mind, I prefer having a physical copy that I can transfer to a digital medium.

But, what you said about Blu-Ray is pretty much on.

Look, I was the same way about Blu-Rays. Why get a Blu-Ray player? My DVD's look just fine. I have an X-Box 360, they get upconverted.

My brother had an extra Blu-Ray player he sold me for $60 (this was after I saw Blu-Ray players as low as $88 at Wal-Mart), and I found the X-Men Blu-Rays for $15 a pop, so I spent $60 to get all 4 movies. I'm glad I did. The picture is better... and like you said, I'm not going to buy every movie on Blu-Ray. Certain movies I will keep in DVD format. But for my favorite movies that I watch constantly, yes, I will Blu-Ray them.

As of now, the X-Men movies are my only Blu-Rays. I watch these movies more than any others. My next targets will be Lord of the Rings (but oddly enough, I'll be getting the non-extended versions, as I don't really have any desire to re-watch the extended), and the Star Wars movies when they release on Blu-Ray.

This exclusively created film cell from X-Men: First Class has been digitally reproduced from the original film footage. Numbers are strictly limited and it’s only available when enough people purchase the Blu-ray to unlock this exclusive product. Mounted in an exquisitely crafted frame to show the film cell in the best possible light.

I'm still waiting for that movie that I can't just buy on DVD. First Class may be it.

I was looking forward to LOTR and Star Wars Blu Ray releases as I thought they would likely be must haves; but I was deeply disappointed that the extended 'Rings films are still split over discs (I thought Blu Rays had a vast amount of space on them?) and the original Star Wars films won't be released unaltered.

As of now the one Blu Ray I'm interested in is Terminator 2, and that's only because the theatrical edition never came out on DVD for some reason.

The theatrical edition was included as an easter egg on the T2 Extreme DVD.

Two-time Oscar® winning visual effects designer John Dykstra (Star Wars, Spider-Man 2), producer Lauren Shuler Donner (X-Men franchise) and up-and-comer Lucas Till (Battle: Los Angeles), hit the Fox lot on Wednesday, September 7 to showcase the exciting bonus features from the Blu-ray and DVD release of X-Men: First Class.

Dykstra, Donner and Till will present many of the behind-the-scenes featurettes and deleted scenes from X-Men: First Class and demonstrate the BD-Live Portal Cerebro Mutant Tracker that allows fans to access videos and information of their favorite mutants from the X-Men universe, and “X” Marks the Spot, an interactive feature that allows viewers to learn more about specific scenes using their remote control as they watch the film.

I imagine Donner will be asked about a sequel, X4 etc.

I have a Blu-ray player yet I still want all that stuff on regular DVD as well! Why don't they offer it on the two disc regular DVD format like just a few years ago??? I'd buy BOTH. I don't have Blu-ray in my bedroom or other spots but, frankly, I like to watch the bonus features as I fall asleep. Why can't they realize that people would buy both versions?

You're looking at it from the angle. DVD's can't hold the quality of the picture and the sound that Blu-ray can. Your standard dual layer DVD can hold just over 8GB of information. A Blu-ray disk can hold 50GB of information.

And if you can't tell the difference in the picture from one to the other then you don't have the right equipment.

Just because you would pump out the extra cash to buy both versions doesn't mean everyone else will. In fact, if I were a betting man, i'd say that a majority of people wouldn't.

It not really common thing for people to purchase multiple versions of the same movie. Unless you're a collector.

That's what I figured would be in the extended Angel recruitment footage. :funny:
