I think the sequel could bring in young storm. Perhaps as a 12 year old trying to control her power, with the help of older X-men's. She can fight with riptide and totally kill him !

Consideirng the fact that it might not even do 50 mil this wewkend I'd say yes.

So many people were against this film and it ended up proving many wrong. That alone makes it a success. It was always the underdog superhero film of the Summer, a prequel no less...those tend to suck. But against all odds, it turned out to be an excellent, well-reviewed film. Fox should stick with this, because profit potential in the future (video, sequels) will be huge, imo. Give people time to connect with the film.

Nikki Finke from Deadline is reporting $22.9 million Saturday, this is definitely going over 50 mil with a slight chance at 60 mil. Seems WOM is kicking in, hopefully it has a small Sunday drop.

Wow! Barely a $1mill drop from yesterday?

Underperformed for an X franchise but hardly a disaster ! Bridesmaid can make 100 m in USA but it is no hit all over the world. Unless you view USA as the world !
I don't mean disaster as in It will lose money, it's more like the TIH type of disaster. Big budget, big brand, underwhelming box office. I really hope I'm wrong though and FC picks up it's footing for a strong run the rest of it's way.

That $54 mil number is incorrect if the movie held that well on Saturday. The in thing to do nowadays is to remove the midnights from Friday, and if that's done it increased for Saturday. Meaning WOM is kicking in.

So if a 23 (midnight & rest of Friday) + 23 (Saturday) = 46, then she thinks it's going to drop over 65% on Sunday, to only make 8 mil more. That's completely abnormal and would literally mean almost 3/4 theaters stopped showing it. Hopefully we aren't in the twilight zone where something like that happens today.

The normal drop for Sunday's looking at the big movies released so far is anywhere from 26% to 30%. Take the worst case scenario for pessimisms sake and that means it makes 16.1 on Sunday. 23 + 23 + 16 = 62 mil

Take the number everyone else released Saturday morning and it's 21 + 23 + 16 = 60 mil

Well, Nikki Finke's multipliers are always off usually, so if it made 21-23 on Friday 23 on Saturday, then it should hit over 55 mil for the weekend. Here's hoping it can hit 60...I really hope it could. You never know.

Wow, I just noticed that the budget on this movie was only $120m, which, is pretty tame considering how much X3 cost...

It's fairly tame, considering how much a lot of superhero movies cost anymore, let alone a superhero movie with this many super-powered beings. What's frustrating is I'm sure a lot of that budget is due to just trying to get the movie out in time, with such a ridiculous schedule. It's insane.

Even Narnia 3 costs 140 m.

I hope it makes 60 millions now. I see reports all over the internet of how good the movie is. This should get people to see it instead of the dreadful hangover and Pirates.

That would be nice. I'm hoping to contribute to those Sunday numbers.

Obviously the weekend is going to be underwhelming (or right on target, depending on your predictions), but I'm curious how the weekday numbers will be, if WOM from weekend is good. I remember Wolverine dropped like a rock on that first Monday.

I dont care if First Class doenst get a final result like XO: Wolverine or X-men as long as Fox makes a sequel.

This is a totally new x-men cast, so they day the sequel gets released, the boxoffice will be like X2 or even more.

Batman Begins hadnt a big boxoffice, but the general audience liked it (theatre, dvd, tv) and we all know how good the sequel worked.

X-men are not Batman and Matthew isnt Nolan, but Second Class will have a bigger box office than this. Im totally confident.

It's strange it's not making more money, cause I saw a line going around the block when I went to see it at the movie theater.

I think people compare it with other 3D movies which is why they feel it's doing bad. 50 million is not bad at all ! If Thor wasn't in 3D then it would've made half of what X-men is making. And the movie only cost 120 m and will have huge international gross, so we shall see !

I almost didn't get seats when I went to see this, shame it isn't making more money.
Then again they were only playing it in the smaller screenings and hangover in the larger one.

Any one of the comic book films released this year would have done soo much better if released last year during the drought.

I wonder how much cap/gl are going to make compared to this.

Well...that's higher than $53 million... :yay:

And could go higher (or lower) with actuals tomorrow, here's hoping higher.

It's not a debacle, but we're far from a great debut. The difference between a disappointment and a success will be made by 2nd w.e. hold and by overseas markets.

To compare X-men had a 55 million dollor opening weekend In 2000.So It's opening
weekend Is very similar. This Is film with laregly unknown cast to many of the GA.To also
compare Batman Begins opened with 48 Million. With a 120 Million Budget It doesn't need to make as much as The Last Stand or Wolverine(Look despite the quality It was no bomb 179 dommesticly and actully toped X2 overseas) and It had to deal with the mixed
reaction to X-Men The Last Stand and the negative reaction to X-Men Origins;Wolverine.
A first Class sequel would have larger opening just as X2 top X-Men.And the fact people loved X2 gave The Last Stand a huge opening weekend. Not being In 3-d affects things. Both Pirates of the Caribean and Kung Fu Panada are actully In more screens than First Class. However I am revising my Box Office prediction.I think the best we can hope for at Domestic IS around 180 Million barely beating Wolverine's domestic gross.I wouldn't be shocked(although I hope this doesn't happen) of final domestic gross between 165-175 Million beating X-Men but falling behind Wolverine.

The question Is will Fox take away from this they need to have actors from previous films and scrap plans for first Class Trilogy and work on devolping the X4/X5 Ideas for next full X Men film after The Wolverine.

That $56 million seems more likely than Nikki's $54. Hopefully it can go at least another million higher when actuals are in...

^ It will be either slightly lower or slightly above with the actuals, tomorrow.

And don't forget the overseas.

Hello, I'm in the UK, don't I count?!
