I hope its bigger than Wolverine, so Fox will realize that the world preffer the x-men before Logan alone.

At the same time, I dont want it to be higher than X3, so Fox could still consider doing X4 with Singer in a few years.

I think they'd be lucky to make as much as Wolverine, considering the competition it will have this summer.

I updated the poll to indicate that it's a worldwide prediction, and I zeroed out all the votes so we can start over. We should be all set.

Thanks, danyose!

I think word of mouth will really help it out, assuming it's a good film. This film is kind of risky because it doesn't have the major characters the general audience is most familiar with and the cast, while extremely talented, aren't major draws for the regular movie-going public. The advertising for X-Men: First Class is going to matter a lot more for this film than any previous X-film, imo. Fox really has to do good promo for this and get people excited by the visuals (first trailer is a good start, but it's still not in theaters yet). I'm going to say it does "Wolverine" numbers...hopefully bigger.

I agree. I think First Class finds itself in a similar position to that of X-Men but now with the added benefit and detriment that the general audience is familiar with the X-Men universe and has certain expectations that must be met or overcome.

In the end, I think the movie may have a Batman Begins or Wolverine type run but, if it's good, I hope it does better.

I know it wont probably be the case...

but How would you feel if First Class ends with a bigger boxoffice than X3?

I don't think anyone would object to a big box office. (Only those who want the franchise to fail so Fox gives up and hands the rights back to Marvel, which seems highly improbable)

In that case, my main fear would be that Fox will see that they wont need to use the old cast anymore, so they will can continue with the new cast with many sequels as possible.

Id like to see a sequel to First Class with Scott, Jean and Ororo, but my big dream is to see X4 one day, directed by Singer, so I hoooope First Class does good, but not as good as X3.

So hopefully Fox will give green light to X4 in a few years, probably after First Class 2, or hopefully, at the same time!

I have faith. I really think Bryan will do a sequel sooner than later.

Fox has the chance to have X-Men In theatres once a year for several years.

2011-X-Men First Class
2012-The Wolverine
2013-Deadpool
2014-X4 or X-Men:Days of Future past
2015-X-Men:Second Class

yeah, Fox has one big franchise in their hands.

But about Deadpool, I think they have left that proyect already.

so that could mean..... more team movies!!! LOL

At this point, I could not care less about X-Men 4, at least not as a direct continuation of The Last Stand, because there is nothing leftover from The Last Stand that I care to see revisited 7 years later (at the earliest).

Also, as much as I like what I've seen of First Class, and hope there are sequels if it's deserving, I think Fox is digging itself in a bit of a hole with regard to the layout of the franchise. It's kind of a mess.

I think It will only make 150 million tops because all of the other movies that will release that month i think Super 8 might be a movie that is getting a lot of attention the so i think that could make XFC take the second spot that weekend and then the 3rd week Green Lantern will probably dominate after that and than Cars 2 after that so i think XFC will make some money but not too much i expect it to make as much as Wolverine or a little bit less.

The thing I'm worrying about is that based on this weekend's box office take. Piece of S films like The Hangover Part II, getting horrible reviews, is breaking records left and right, biggest Thursday, etc. and Kung Fu Panda 2, which is 80% right now on rottentomatoes is way under performing.
America (and Canada) loves its crap. :(

If this summer wasn't so crowded, I'd guarantee it would generate over $200 million domestic. Even so, I'm still going to say it'll cross the mark.

Opening Weekend Domestic: $88 million (well over tracking)
Domestic: $202 million
Overall: $ 424 million

It this makes more than 400m worldwide, I'll be quite surprised. I think it'll get very close.

I think it'll end up around $360-$380m

Count me as one of those who wants the rites back to Marvel.

I'll probably do between 150-170 domestically. It's not getting over 200 mil. Green Lantern is gonna trounce XMFC.

Not necessarily. If First Class ends up being an awesome movie (like the reviews say) and GL ends up being a dud, First Class may wipe out GL.

I can't see GL being a break out hit.

It's still too crowded for me to feel this will be a big hit. And the Hangover is going to be tough competition to overcome. I hope I'm wrong, but it might be difficult to get over $50 mil the first weekend.

As much as part of me would like for this film to tank because FOX will churn out more sequels to this prequel of the Xmen and the rest of mutants that hasn't seen the big screen will be mangled and displaced in history. It's all sad cause we know where the films will lead and that's to X3. I'm hoping Donner gets her way and they make X4 and still do a sequel to FC.

I think it'll make over 50 million opening weekend. Lord knows the last thing that is needed is for them clueless execs to think it tanked cause Wolverine wasn't in it. 50 mil should be easy for FC. I'll say between 60-70 mil opening.

I saw the trailer in front of Hangover 2 and the trailer for The Muppets got a bigger response from the audience.

Well responses doesn't really prove anything cause Thor didn't get any responses and it performed well. Inception didn't either and that was a huge hit. The Muppets trailer has comedic moments so that may be why it got a response.

I have no idea how First Class will perform. I’ve talked to people who are excited about the film, and I’ve talked to people who refuse to believe it will be any good, based on the previous two entries. I’m hoping word of mouth is good and that an X-Men movie will have decent legs for once. Even if it doesn't do brilliant at the box office, I think it could do very well at home.
