If the film doesn't get the support, then they'll go back to the old formula...
That's a little presumptious, as they should be smart enough to realize that it wasn't the formula that was earning them money.

It's really simple folks.

You want quality, you want more Singer/Vaughn, then you have to spread the good word and keep seeing this film.

This isn't about Marvel vs DC, or Marvel Studios vs Fox, forget all that nonsense. You all wanted Singer back on board, well now he is on board - he devised the story, chose the characters, served as producer.

If the film doesn't get the support, then they'll go back to the old formula...

Yeah, I don't follow that. They might go back to include Jackman, but there's no reason they would get rid of Singer.

The problem that this film has that the other's didn't, is there's no bankable star to push the next film. I think there were some fine perfomances in this film, but there's not a Jackman, a Downey Jr., a Bale.

I was expecting a bit more for Monday :csad:

a bit more than the rest of the franchise....

but we'll see what happens on the next weekend.

I'm really hoping this doesn't drop too bad next weekend, but I'm sure it will. I don't think there is going to be enough good word of mouth to save this film.

I'm not even sure it will be bad word of mouth that hurts box office. I think it's just the movies that are coming out in the coming weeks that will end up hurting it. Big movies week after week. Green Lantern, Cars 2, Transformers. All of these movies fighting for theater space in addition to what is already out there...

What are your thoughts on Super 8? Are you looking forward to that one? I have this feeling that it might not perform all that well.

It looks like a general public movie and they eat up alien invasion flicks for the most part. However, I think along with Green Lantern, it's the toughest movie to call box office wise.

I personally think it looks rather generic. I really dig the nostalgia based on the trailers, but it has that "I've seen this all before" thing going for it or going against it.

That's exactly how I feel about it. I grew up watching E.T. and Close Encounters, seen both of them countless times. So the "I've seen this all before" feeling is definitely there.

If Super 8 takes the topspot this weekend the best we can hope of In the fuutre Is bryan Singer directs X4 and can bring some of quality of X2 and First Class missing
from Last Stand and Wolverine. And Super 8 takes spot we are looking at an Incredible Hulk level Gross.

First Class is going to make the same whether it's number one next weekend, or not. Should be at 100mil by next Monday.

No desire to see super 8 at all. I can barely even tell what its about. They're definitely spending the budget on advertising though, feel like its getting beat into my brain.

Small town alien invasion, kids save the day? Yeah, this is new.

It will be a close race between Super 8 and First Class. Super 8 isn't going to be making 50 million or something high so I wouldn't be shocked if this weekend sees Super 8 and First Class around 25-30 million each. I have no idea who will win first.

You could make the same argument about most superhero movies, too. :cwink:

I'm planning to see both of them this weekend. Super 8 looks like every movie I grew up with (and I loved those movies). And my dad wants to see X-Men again too.

Thats such a so-so number. It will go up on today like most films but after that it's going to have to hold better than other blockbusters have during their weekdays.

Little reminder. Not everyone has seen First Class yet. Don't blab key plot points out loud without warning and especially not covered under spoiler-tags. There's clearly another section of this thread dedicated to that conversation.

This is the box office discussion.

Tracking usually means nothing. It's like going to a fortune teller.

Remember those exit polls that said John Kerry was going to be our next president. Nope.

I'm not saying that Super 8 is going to do well, I have no idea. It could tank, it could do well, it could do great. I'm just
saying tracking can't be taken seriously. Look at First class, wasn't tracking indicating 70 million?

Super 8 cost less then 30 million to make, it doesnt need to make a lot.

In your statement, you gave zero responsibility to Vaughn who played a hand in how X-Men 3 turned out. I pointed that out with facts. Plus the fact is this started when Vaughn was trash-talking Ratner in the press (to which nobody uttered a word) and the moment Ratner said something out loud to defend himself we suddenly see articles saying Ratner has no class and is a hack. Hell of a double-standard.

Maybe you should be the one paying more attention.

I don't have to discuss Vaughn's responsibility when I'm stating an opinion on Ratner BECAUSE I WASN'T TALKING ABOUT VAUGHN. In the statement I neither praised Vaughn nor insulted him. You're the one digging up all the history. I just said Ratner is PARTLY to blame for XM:FC's box office. I don't know why you're getting all bent out of shape about it.

Bingo.

Not to mention, Pirates 4 was tracking to a $100-$125 million opening. It did $90 million. I remember Batman Begins was tracking for a $100 million 5-day opening weekend. It did $73 million. Superman Returns was tracking for a $120 million 5-day opening weekend. It did $85 million.

You get the idea.

Who is to say Super 8 won't fare better (or worse) than tracking suggests since, as we've literally, just seen. It ain't the Gospel.

Pointing out facts is nothing to get bent out of shape about nor is providing context that clearly wasn't given to begin with.

I still stand by my original statment and don't think it required context. But I'll meet you halfway and say yes, Vaughn does have responsibility towards X3. He majorly wussed out when be abandoned the project and then took cheap shots at the movie after the fact. In the future, I just hope you won't be so quick to insult someone when you don't agree with their statements.

The mods will tell us to soon to get back on track.
