If [BLACKOUT]scott makes a cameo, shouldn't that put him at 40-50 yrs old in the newer films?[/BLACKOUT]

Yes. Sure, there are nods & stuff to the old movies (X-Men I & X2 directly), but it can be taken as both as a brand new part of the rich franchise & as a fresh reboot as well.

cool!

I hope they do use this as an opportunity to reboot, even if First Class is a "vague prequel."

hmmm..........good point.......

a case for different continuity then, perhaps?

Can someone make a spoiler thread and put all of these spoiler posts in them. Kind of hard sifting through to get to the reviews.

Thx.

Just out of X-Men First Class. Best in the series, better than X2, and best Marvel movie to date. Very well put together.

when I 1st heard they were going to do a First Class movie, I was initially excited that it would be about young Jean, Scott, Storm, etc. ( that they would be the "first class" ).

Then, when I heard it would be set in the 60s and feature none of the "main" characters ( and I use that word loosely ), I pretty much lost all interest. Then I heard it wasn't really a clean reboot but more a prequel, and I was thinking: "yawn....What's the point?"

Then, I saw the 1st trailer and my interest was piqued. And my interest continued to grow as I started watching all the clips and TV spots.

Now, I'm really excited to see this film ( if only it could have been released Memorial Weekend instead!! )!

I'm glad to hear and read all these positive reviews.......

^ Great loophole.

Would you consider them equal in quality or do you have a preference?

What's your star or number rating for the two films?
Look, I think they're both pretty exciting and different, which is pretty astonishing. I don't have any kind of "star/number rating" thing. The movie is either good or bad.

In case of First Class, this movie is really rocking teh socks off. I have nothing bad to say about it. But Thor is more kind of my thing, cause it's a part of Marvel Studios franchise & I just LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Kirby-esque Asgard & etc)

I was poking fun at you for freaking out that someone gave it a 3/5.

I never said I wasn't gonna see it and I made it clear, several times, that I'll enjoy it no matter what the scores might be. I just expected and wanted this to receive greater scores than it has seen so far (more 5s than 3s)
Why? Because it makes me feel warm and fuzzy :P

And more reviews, since this is actually a review thread :)

In summary: X-Men: First Class is an extremely well written, well acted and well-directed thriller with superpowered protagonists that manages to get the audience involved in the destinies of each of the characters. It ties neatly into the other movies (only two minor continuity quibbles remain unresolved), but stands out as the best of them. As a matter of fact, X-Men: First Class sets the blue-gold-standard for this year’s superhero movies — and frankly, I don’t think the others can beat it. Among all the other superhero movies, I rate this second only to The Dark Knight.
Verdict: extremely recommended.

The X-MEN franchise has truly found its feet (mutated perhaps). It is not afraid to make changes in its source material to create a sound and watertight narrative. It has shown that the successful reboot is a real thing, and that the likes of THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN could fare the same if its team have taken the same approach (although this is more of a prequel than actual reboot, and there are a number of nods to the original films). Whatever your opinion on the superhero movie – whether you think it’s ready to die off or regenerate – X-MEN: FIRST CLASS has made a strong argument for its survival. It’s exciting, powerful, touching, and the superhero action is just breathtaking. Let’s hope GREEN LANTERN also has something rather spectacular tucked away in his CG sleeve…
