Did the first two movies get reviews this good? This is amazing. :wow:

The first and second film ended up at 83% and 88% respectively on Rotten Tomatoes. So, they did pretty well with critics. Hopefully this one will end up at the same level as well, or higher.

I knew this writing/directing team and cast couldn't make a bad movie. Vaughn/Goldman + Fassbender + McAvoy + Lawrence = Awesomeness. It was science. :D

c-saw, hey, these reviews now have a better batting average. I don't know why you got up in your elbows over, really. :p

My fear is that it plays out like Thor, where all the UK reviews are great, but then the US reviews takes it down.

Granted, Thor's UK reviews weren't this glowing.

Yeah, the general feeling I got from the Thor reviews was basically "yeah, there are problems, but it's still very fun, which we didn't really expect."

The vibes coming from these reviews are more like "OMG, what a great f*****g movie!"

Pretty good review

"It’s clearly the precursor to a new series, and if the previous films are any indication the second should be tolerable and the third utter dreck, but at this point First Class is… well, if not first class, then a solid B."

I was baffled because the reviewer really talked about the flaws. But then when I looked at the rating he gave it a 4/5.:woot:

I think the US embargo is lifted Monday. That's the real test!

Well considering "inflation" of expectations, if it ends up at around 80% it will be better off than X1 or 2. If Thor was released in 2000... it would have a near 90+% Rating on Tomatoes. If X1 was released in todays age, it would have a low 70's - 60's Id be willing to bet. So anything above an 80 for first class pretty much makes it better than X2 the way I see it. (as far as ratings and rankings)

Not exact math obviously, just rounded guesses :)

I'm glad I'm not the only person who thinks about silly things like that. :o

... Must be cultural sensitivities. :o

Boxofficemojo is predicting First Class to make roughly $155 million at the US box office. Wolverine made $179 million and wasn't that good.

Here's hoping to good worth-of-mouth turns this film into the surprise hit of the summer.

Wolverine was a beloved character and the most popular (at least film wise)

First Class is starting over with mostly new characters and a whole new cast. Plus it's a prequel. It has to get an audience. The previous X Men films already had it's fanbase built up quite a bit.

"To say that X-Men: First Class is the best X-Men movie is slight praise. That’s not a particularly high bar. To say that it’s the best Marvel movie since Spider-Man 2 is a little better, but still lowballing. To say that it’s the best superhero film since The Dark Knight is nice, but it’s untrue. I liked X-Men: First Class more than The Dark Knight (we can save arguments over objective qualities for later). The best praise I can give X-Men: First Class is that it’s a wonderful movie, not just a wonderful X-Men movie or a wonderful Marvel movie or a wonderful superhero movie. It’s a damn good film, full stop, all other genres and ghetto-izations aside."

Ethereal magical goodness on a stick and translating the best of Claremont's work. Vaughn hit the mark by bringing the images from early Adams, Cockrum and Byrne to the screen and all its visceral strong points.

Great to hear that its surpassing expectations and then some, for me this is no surprise but knowing that its clicking so well with audiences is great. :)

Seriously, it gave me goosebumps reading this...damn.
How many of you guys think you'll cry when you see the movie? :woot:

That's why I don't get worked up over the whole "this will be the lowest grossing X-Men movie" stuff. Wasn't X3 the highest? It's not reflective of the quality, which is what I'm more concerned about at this point.

XFC is currently 100% at rotten tomatoes :woot:

geeks.co.uk - 4.5/5

while X-Men First Class does not reach the giddy heights of The Dark Knight, its certainly on par with Batman Begins. Now that the characters have been introduced (again!) and enough detailing has been held back, the inevitable sequel has the potential to be as good as Nolan’s masterpiece.

as good? Why not better? Why do reviewers act like TDK is a perfect 10 (with no room for anything surpassing it) is beyond me o.O

Next week can't get here fast enough. so far, most of the reviews have my hype for this movie through the roof.

I'll be really happy when this trend of comparing any CBM movie to BB or TDK is dead and buried. Gods.
Maybe First Class will become the blueprint then. :awesome:

^^ Agreed! Though, I still feel as though S-M2 is the best cbm ever, so I don't hold BB or TDK in that high of regard.
