X3 was very commercial and fun to watch but the movie was a disappointment overall. XO was troubled when they added Gambit, Cyclops, Emma and Professor X in it !

I remember I was so excited to see X3 when it came out. I was hoping against hope that it would be good, and the mixed reviews had me thinking it would be ok. When I was actually in the theater watching it... there was one point during the movie when I just started hoping it would end soon. It was a sad day.

I think I read that Marvel had offered Thor to Vaughn, but he backed out of it. Would've been interesting to see his take on the Norse god, though, but I really like Branagh's direction.

I think in that situation we got the best of both worlds, Thor was brilliant and FC looks to be as well, win-win in my eyes.

I agree that X3 is far from the worst ever. I saw it at a midnight screening when it opened and the audience was really into it and very energetic. I think it's their energy that got me through it so well because I left the theater decently happy. Then I went to see it at a matinee a day later and I got about halfway through it and just couldn't take the cliche' Hollywood dialogue anymore and left. With Wolverine & SM3, I left the midnight screenings knowing that they were bad and that I'd never watch them again.

Gavin Hood had never done a true studio film before.
Rendition, but it wasn't good either. Better than Wolverine anyway (not much needed to succeed in that though...)

I love X2 but I don't think it is as good as TDK, SM2, or IM...imo. Iron Man is a pretty damn good movie and RDJ was fantastic.
TDK and IM are very good, but they don't have much re-watch value. I've seen both twice, and don't really crave to see them again any time soon... X2 and SM2 in the other hand I've seen countless times.

And that just goes to show you how widely we can all differ on this stuff. I've seen IM about a hundred times. It's my #2 all time favorite movie after Jaws. With SM2 & X2 I watched them a few times back when they came out but now they just seem like a chore to get through. The flaws really stand out for me.

Aw c'mon, everyone is entitled to their opinion. Welcome to the hype!

See I'll agree with everything Shadowlord X said but move it over to Inception. OH and the last season of LOST.

Hoping the embargo is lifted 12am UK time. Would love to read some reviews before I go to bed tonight!

@ SuperSoldier985

Ready when you are bub. LOL. :cwink:

@ JP

Thanx!

@ Great Mind(s)

Yeah, I think Inception is REALLY overrated too. Basically it's a gimmick (dream within a dream) from horror b-movies made into a 2 hour plus snoozefest. But it's nowhere near as bad as TDK to me.

I have to say I was originally going to boycott XM:FC because of the lack of respect to the mythos of characters by Fox in X-men 3 (also an abomination) and Wolverine. But a combination of factors have changed my mind:

- The trailers have been awesome!
- Magneto is my favourite character and he looks totally badass.
- After 300 I became a fan of Michael Fassbender and having him play Magneto seemed cosmic.
- The realisation that the X-MEN movie franchise will probably never end up back at Marvel.
- Michael Vaughn and Bryan Singer on board.

And to seal the deal:
- TV spot #15!!!!!

Although I had already turned around by then. :cwink:

I agree with you completely that TDK is an abomination; a totally overrated boring, pretentious, fantasy devoid, intelligence insulting, piece of crap.
Welcome! :yay:
And I agree with both of you. :cwink: :woot:

I respect your oporion. And someone who Likes Batman Returns and calls X2 one of best comic book films has tastes.I consider Thor to be weakest Marvel Studios film and consider the Spider-Man films much lower In quality than some.

I have always been more a Marvel guy with exception of batman.X-Men Is top comic book series I have In my collection.Spider-Man Is number 2.

Seems like i might be able to see X-Men First Class on June 2nd! I'll post my rating and review asap here. <3

People who dislike TDK tend to get caught up in hyperbole. It's a natural backlash because the movie is so popular.

But really, we should reserve the term "abomination" for movies that deserve it. Like Halle Berry's Catwoman.

Back on topic, I think people are too hard on X3. It had some good ideas, a few awful ideas, and overall made a decently entertaining movie that missed the mark. Wolverine, howerver, sucked.

I have really high hopes for First Class. I haven't seen anything that makes me think it isn't going to rock. We need more reviews!
Exactly! I am hard on X3 as an X-Men movie, but I do think there are several good ideas in there. Jean and Xavier's battle was done well and scored perfectly. There are some beautiful shots in the forest rally scene. Haha I liked Kitty outsmarting Jugsy.

But I do have to say that overall the movie didn't work/was a mess, and that made me sad.

Now XMO:Wolverine... haha I would almost call that an abomination.

X3 did have one amazing score, and great SFX, but that's about it

I didn't like the scoring to the Danger Room scene, but other than that, it was great.

I remember when Storm and Logan were touching down in the X-Jet at Alkali Lake and the music sounded kind of like some of the cartoon's scoring but appropriate for a live-action movie. I thought it was genius.

As a non comic book reader/fan I have to say I enjoyed X3, I didn't fell on my knees with The Christ stigmata on my wrists when I saw it but it was ok. I also happen to like X-Men Wolverine ( even if some stuff is not credible, like the super tech computers in the 70' ).

From the trailer/TV spots I expect First Class to be better, the few dialogues lines on them were great ( killing will not bring you peace my friend / peace was never an option ).

The movie is released June 3rd here and I must say I am a bit excited.

Some of the reviews sound great so far! Definitely one of my most hyped films of this year.

Can we please go back to posting reviews?

From Empire:
@CTAH1976: Just checked email. Official line from Fox: "you can tweet your reaction." Huzzah! So I shall now tweet my reaction to X-Men: First Class.

@CTAH1976: First I was all like, 'no way!' Then I was like, 'no, you didn't!' Then I was like, 'get him!' Then I was like, 'whoa! Heavy!' It was cool.
