To the folks that read all of the reviews, are there any from people who aren't big fans of X-Men or Matt Vaughn? I like some of the X-Men on occasion and I've only seen (and hated) Kick-Ass from Vaughn.
Becky Reed from DIY gave the movie one of the most positive reviews so far and she called Kick-Ass "perfectly fine but vastly overrated". If I catch more, I'll let you know.

Man these are some great reviews. This is awesome for the franchise.

Only thing Im worried about is the handling of Emma Frost, seems to be alot of minor complaints that she has nothing to do and is a bit underdeveloped. Why is this always the case with my favorite X characters. Is she signed for more movies?

Cheer up! :) All hope is not lost... here's what they said about Emma Frost over at http://www.dogatemywookie.co.uk/?review=x-men-first-class-theatrical-review:

"January Jones could very easily have been the buxom blonde wearing skimpy attire just because she’s pretty but even Emma Frost seems to get a character arc stronger than the protagonists of many a film..."

I love Emma Frost as well, but a character arc for her is more than what I could have ever asked for... especially since arcs are usually saved for the main characters. I have faith! :)

I hope those tweets aren't real. Not because it may have ruined a surprise, but
I just don't want him to be in another film this soon...no matter if it's just a tiny cameo.

They said it's a fun cameo. Which means it won't amount to anything other than as a Easter Egg. And reviews say it doesn't take you out of the film; it will feel organic. So that's good enough for me.

Repeat that in the Emma Frost thread! :)

If it's anything like the Star Trek reboot as the Total Film review suggested, this could be the start of something big for X-Men!

I'm just curious as to see who this cameo is, I hope to god that it isn't Wolverine.

Good to know because that's exactly the way I see Kick Ass.

2 up on RT and...

"Verdict: A classy edition to the X-series that expertly establishes a hoard of characters, navigates a Cold War plot and squeezes a tear for a friendship failed. Dream-team casting and quality FX make this the summer blockbuster to beat."

A verdict already? I don't see it?

Yikes people talking spoilers soonish? I'll avoid this forum till i've seen this masterpiece! Adios amigos and amigas till next week. <3

That's why I'm thinking it's BS. Someone would have spilled it before now.
There were those early rumors.

Well, I've seen it. The embargo was very strict so not sure what I can say at this point until I ask tomorrow at work (it's now very late here in UK) if it's okay to say anything!

I wil say that the reviewer sat next to me said she was going to give it five stars and that we both want to see it again...
Anything after credits?

Anything after credits?

No. And I'm thankful. I hate having to sit through full credits. And I hate that i might not know I have to sit through credits. Luckily, someone sat near me told us that a colleague saw it the night before and there was nothing after credits.

There's also no opening sequence of flicking Marvel comics, signalling to me that they are separating from Marvel Studios' own offerings.

That's interesting, as they're featuring it in the TV spots like crazy.

That's strange since the Fox logo is missing during the TV spots and only the Marvel logo is being used.

This is one aspect of critics reviews that tends to bug me(especially geek-press types..which are all that are doing reviewing for this film so far); the need to compare movies with other movies, especially one's that aren't even in the same franchise. We don't all monolithicly agree the same movies are bad or good so I wish they'd stop stating their opinions on measuring different films against each other as if they're facts. Saying this movie tops 'Movie XYZ' only is useful if you already agree with the reviewer's take on 'Movie XYZ' in the first place.

I mind less the comparisons to other films IN THIS SAME FRANCHISE..which is more legit. But enough with comparing it to every other comic book movie under the sun.

I skimmed over the reviews pretty quickly but for the most part everyone is stating the film is very good to excellent.Im hyped!!!!!

But in this case, this is the context that works for X-Men. The franchise was on its way to the grave (almost) with those last two films that left a certain bad taste in peoples' mouths, so comes along Vaughn's work, therefore validating these comparisons.

Besides, it's not just comic book films, the Bond franchise has been mentioned as well. So I think this is very apt.

Moreover Vaughn has himself made comparisons between X-Men and Batman and Bond. That's about it really. Every other film mentioned are a different kind of beast.

The Bond reference is not a reference to quality so much as explaining how it's trying to capture a certain aesthetic. And just about anyone could already see the heavy Bond influence just from the trailers.

And Vaughn saying that is just trying to explain where he's coming from as a filmmaker to the audience.

My critique was about the geek-press needing to always say "It's as good/less good/better than this other unrelated film that just happens to be in the same genre".
