My favorite CBM ever is X2. :yay: And I'm almost betting that First Class will take its place.

^^ It may very well take it's place, but we'll see. X2 is my favorite X-MEn movie. I hold the Spider-Man trilogy has my absoluote favorite, so it's hard for me to form an overall opinion on what this movie will be, but it's possible it could be right under the Spider-Man trilogy on my favorites list. Thor currently is, though, Iron Man is pretty much on the same level as Thor, IO.

I hope it stays that way, it just looks right.

Someone send that picture to Fox so that they don't mess up the next one. I will do a backflip if Matthew Vaughn and Bryan Singer stay on to do a sequel.

Ok I finally was able to read the Empire review(for some reason all the links from here just led me to a white-screen that would never finish refreshing....the link from RT worked though) and I have to say that I don't find it to be a poorly thought out review at all. It doesn't seem like it's coming from someone who just hates the superhero genre(unlike the first couple of negative reviews that Thor got). The guy may well have a legitimate point. I'll wait until next weekend to see if I agree with him or not. But I'm not gonna start knee-jerkedly bashing him right now.

Well considering "inflation" of expectations, if it ends up at around 80% it will be better off than X1 or 2. If Thor was released in 2000... it would have a near 90+% Rating on Tomatoes. If X1 was released in todays age, it would have a low 70's - 60's Id be willing to bet. So anything above an 80 for first class pretty much makes it better than X2 the way I see it. (as far as ratings and rankings)

Not exact math obviously, just rounded guesses :)

I tend to agree. The bar for what's acceptable has been rising for more than a decade now. It ain't where it was in 2000.

I was expecting/hoping for a prequel trilogy at least from them if the films are successful.

^I just wish this movie proves a point that not all superhero movies need to be in 3D to be succesful (don't get me wrong, love 3D).

People need to stop mistaking the percentages at Rotten Tomatoes for the quality of movies, all it represents is the 'quantity' of how many movie critics enjoyed the movies. The average ratings that pops up courtesy of the movie critics is what should really matter to certain people (on one hand). In X-Men First Class's case, the average rating is 8.2/10, not that it's a bad thing though. I'm expecting the movie to get knocked down to around 80% when the reviews from movie critics stop rolling in.

Yeah average rating means a hell of a lot more than the Tomatometer. 8.2 is phenomenal... would be great if it can stay in the high 7s at least.

"To say that X-Men: First Class is the best X-Men movie is slight praise. That’s not a particularly high bar. To say that it’s the best Marvel movie since Spider-Man 2 is a little better, but still lowballing. To say that it’s the best superhero film since The Dark Knight is nice, but it’s untrue. I liked X-Men: First Class more than The Dark Knight (we can save arguments over objective qualities for later). The best praise I can give X-Men: First Class is that it’s a wonderful movie, not just a wonderful X-Men movie or a wonderful Marvel movie or a wonderful superhero movie. It’s a damn good film, full stop, all other genres and ghetto-izations aside."

In Bryan Singer’s X-Men films the glumness was laid on thick. Being a mutant was a curse, it seemed, especially since the first film introduced us to the world of the X-Men through Rogue, whose powers are completely debilitating. While X-Men: First Class has Raven and Hank who want to be normal it’s mostly filled with characters who actively love their powers. Even Havok, who is afraid to use his power because he can’t control it, is ecstatic when Hank’s super science helps him harness his ability. One of my favorite scenes in the film has the young recruits hanging out together and showing off their powers for each other; to me this sums up the movie’s rambunctious energy and general sense of fun.

Again, fun. The movie’s not stupid, and it doesn’t short change the characters and it doesn’t rely on huge chunks of exposition (for a long film with a meandering plot First Class is really economical with its storytelling), but it’s still fun. It feels like a summer movie should feel – thrilling and big and entertaining as hell.

All I ever really wanted in an X-Men film. Fun.

this is starting to sound like it may be marvels best film...
and quite possibly the most entertaining film this summer.

It seems like 5 is now a lucky number, the best fast and furious was Fast Five, the best star wars was episode V even if it was the 2nd one made, and now the fifth x-men movie.

Wait, is that site correct? Is the film $120? Because if it is then I suddenly have no worries about it being a hit.

I dunno. I've seen scores in the 8 range for movies I hate and scores in the 6 range for movies I love. But then I've seen some 50% range films that I'd rank way above some that ended up in the 90% range.

I wonder if it has a shot at being the best reviewed film of the year (obviously of the summer) if it keeps this up.

I mean toy story got that with 98 or something I think.
I would just love the best reviewed film of the year to not get a single oscar nom.

it's just gotta hold at 98%

Other reviews haven't been counted and not a single one is negative and I believe we are well over 30 reviews. Still early but a very positive indicator.
